This cute little crochet snowman would make a perfect appliqué on a winter hat but also a wonderful ornament, magnet, or pin. The appliqué measures approx. 3″ x 2″. I tried to make this pattern as simple as possible by making the body one piece, but you will still need to sew on the other elements. I hope everyone is looking forward to the winter season as much as I am! Happy Holidays!
Size H hook for Body
Size F hook for the rest of the pieces
Tapestry needle
Magic Ring: You can find a wonderful tutorial by Petals to Picots which includes pictures and video HERE
Ch = Chain
Sl St = Slip Stitch
SC – Single Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
Crochet Snowman Appliqué Pattern
Snowman Body:
With size H hook…Magic ring, 8 SC in ring, pull tight, join to first SC, ch 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each around, join, ch 1 (16 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first, sc in next, repeat around, join, ch 1
You have now completed the bottom circle of the snowman.
Do NOT fasten off. We will now create the head of the snowman.
Row 4: SC, Hdc in next 3, sc, ch 1, turn
Row 5: beginning in 2nd stitch in row, 2 Hdc in each, ch 1, turn (8 HDC)
Row 6: beginning in 2nd stitch, SC in each. (7 SC)
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Earmuffs:
Magic ring, 6 SC in ring, join to first SC
Do not fasten off yet, slip stitch along top of snowman head until you get to the place where the other ear muff goes. Now fasten off, sew the first earmuff in place and weave in ends.
Create a second earmuff by:
Magic ring, 6 SC in ring, join to first SC, fasten off, sew into place on snowman head.
Scarf:
Chain 35, fasten off, tie in knot around neck.
Eyes and Buttons: (make 5)
Knot black yarn 4x. Use a tapestry need to pull the yarn ends through and tie onto body and head.
Nose:
With orange yarn and tapestry needle, weave yarn into a carrot shape. To do this, loop 3 strands into one point.

these are adorable and so easy to make. i am a novice in the crocheting dept and loved the way the body was one piece – very clever. i used small black beads for the eyes and buttons and an orange bead for the nose. i don't have any black yarn and didn't want to buy any. the beads look very nice and take no time to sew on – i used thread for that. i also tacked the scarf down with invisible thread – one stitch near the bottom of each end to hold it down and to hold the scarf on as i am giving a few of these for christmas gifts. tks for this pattern – i will be a hit on christmas day.
