A couple weeks ago I made a nursing necklace for my baby but I just wasn’t happy with the materials I used so I made another one and thought I would make a quick little post about it 🙂
This time I used Lion Brand Bonbon Yarn. This is a fine, cotton yarn (weight 2) that covers the wooden beads much better with a tighter stitch than the thicker worsted weight yarns.
Materials:
– Small Crochet Hook (Size 0/3.25 or a size F would work)
– 1″ unfinished round wooden beads for crocheting around and smaller 3/4 inch beads for the ends or in-between
– .375 inch Premium Grosgrain Ribbon
– Tapestry needle
Pattern for crocheting around the 1″ bead:
Magic Ring, make 8 SC in ring, pull tight but not completely closed, continue to crochet in rounds
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around (16 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next, repeat around (24 SC)
Round 4-6: SC in each stitch around (24 SC)
Round 7: SC decrease, SC in next stitch, repeat around
(at this point pop in your bead)
Round 8: SC decrease to close. If you have trouble making a SC decrease, switch to using your tapestry needle and weave it under the front loops of your stitches (two at a time) as seen in the picture below until closed. Weave in ends.
Cut a long (4 foot) piece of ribbon. You can use the tapestry needle to help you weave it through the bead holes. Knot (or double knot) the ribbon between the beads so they stay in place.
Now I feel better about using this necklace for teething and nursing my 6 month old! Of course you should still use constant supervision with this necklace.
