Super soft squares and bright vibrant colors! You won’t be able to resist cuddling up with this Bright and Bulky Bernat Blanket. Made with the every so fluffy and chunky Bernat Blanket Yarn in their Brights line. It works up so quickly that you could easily make a blanket in a few days! A great gender-neuatral baby gift or make a larger afghan for a fun pop of color in your home.
If you missed my post a few days ago, I posted how to make the colored squares. You can see that post HERE. Only two rounds to complete each square! For the blanket you see pictured I made: 3 purple, 4 green, 4 yellow, 3 orange, 3 red, 3 blue. Once you have made your color squares, now you can add a white border.
Materials for the entire blanket:
– Yarnspirations Bernat Blanket Brights Yarn 150g in these colors (1 skein of each): Go-Go Green, Busy Blue, School Bus Yellow, Race Car Red, Pow Purple, and Carrot Orange. These are available for purchase for only $4.99 on Yarnspirations.com. For larger blankets you will need the 300g skeins or if you are planning on a fancier border.
– 2 skeins of Yarnspirations Bernat Baby Blanket Yarn in White.
– Size K Crochet Hook
– Large Tapestry Needle
To make the white border, start on any edge of your colored square. Chain 3 (counts as first DC, DC in each stitch around. When you get to the corner make 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC. Join to top of chain 3, fasten off and weave in ends.
Lay out your squares in the color pattern you like.
Join squares with long strand of white Bernat Blanket yarn and tapestry needle. Join a full row at a time using the mattress stitch. Moogly has a great video tutorial on how to seam squares using the mattress stitch. See it HERE.
When squares are joined, you can begin on your border!
First make one complete border using the White Bernat Blanket yarn.
Round 1: Join yarn at any point and chain 3 (this counts as your first DC), DC in each stitch around. When you get to the corners make 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC. Join to top of chain 3. Fasten off and weave in ends.
Round 2: With any accent color you choose (I used Go-Go Green), SC in each stitch around. When you get to the corners make 2 SC + chain 2 + 2 SC. Join, fasten off and weave in ends.
Round 3: Switch back to your White yarn. Join any where along edge and chain 3, skip 1 stitch, SC in next, *chain 2, skip 1 stitch, SC in next, repeat from * around. When you get to the corners make a SC + chain 2 + SC. Join to the first chain made in your chain 3. Fasten off and weave in ends
Sorry for the terrible iPhone photo below but I wanted to be able to show you the entire blanket! Finished size is approximately 34 inches long x 28 inches wide (about the same size as my daisy afghan…but this one takes a lot less time!). You can absolutely add as many squares as you’d like to your blanket to make it larger.
So soft and squishy and comfy cozy! I hope you enjoy these bold, bright, and bulky squares as much as I do!
Head over to Yarnspirations.com to find even more Bernat Blanket Brights yarn colors! (I LOVE the pink and coordinating variegated skeins!)

Mahjong is the famous online tiles matching game players have to arrange the tiles and match the design which are same but free games mahjong connect eliminate the default tiles,so without wasting the time get it and share the information too.

I love this design! 🙂 I want to make a blanket for my daughter, (she’s an adult, but she likes homemade crafts from mom no matter how imperfect) and this pattern looks like something even a beginner like me might be able to do. How big is the blanket? I would like to make a larger one, if that is possible. Thank you for sharing your work 🙂
