I finished my spike stitch blanket! I love this pattern because it is so easy to make it as big or small and wide or skinny as you want. Plus it’s one of those mindless projects with repetitive stitches that you can work on here or there, while watching TV, and easily take it on the go!
I actually based it off of my Reversible Spike Stitch Pillow that I made for Yarnspirations a few years ago. You can find that pattern HERE. I used Bernat Maker Home Dec for the pillow and Caron Simply Soft in these gorgeous coordinating shades of greens/blues for this spike stitch blanket. I love how it reminds me of the ocean and I couldn’t resist adding a Flamingo Applique to the corner!
Caron Simply Soft:
2 skiens of Pagoda – the color Ocean would also work (color 1)
2 skeins of Cool Green (color 2)
2 skeins of Soft Green (color 3)
2 skeins of Off White (color 4)

– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
– Pom Pom Maker (optional)
Finished Size: 38×38 inches… but feel free to make it longer!
Note: Starting chain can be in multiples of 4 +1 so to make a smaller blanket your starting chain could be 93.
Starting with color 1
Chain 137, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn
Row 2-3: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (136 SC)
With color 2
Row 4: *SC, Spike stitch 1 row down, Spike stitch 2 rows down, Spike stitch 3 rows down*, Repeat this sequence (from * to *) until end of row. You should have 34 spike stitch sequences, chain 1, turn
Row 5-7: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (136 SC)
With color 3
Row 8: same as row 4
Row 9-11: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (136 SC)
With color 4
Row 12: same as row 4
Row 13-15: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (136 SC)
Repeat as above, changing colors as needed!
make it as long as you want!
I repeat the 4 color sequence 13 times.
I decided to end with one row of spike stitches + one row of SC stitches in the darkest blue (the color I started with) just to make the top and bottom match!
No need to add a border but add a pompom to each of the 4 corners for a fun finishing touch!
