Dr. Seuss’ birthday is March 2nd so I have seen a lot of fun Dr. Seuss inspired crafts and snack ideas pop up in my newsfeed over the past couple days. I was especially inspired by THIS adorable Lorax snack from Little Nummies and THIS Lorax snack idea from one of my favorite fun food blogs Kitchen Fun with My 3 Sons. So I set out to make my own version!
For the tree trunks I used the rind of watermelon and for the tree tops I used cut up watermelon and mandarin orange slices. As you can see from the picture, I used a small circle cookie cutter to cut into the watermelon and then sliced it in half.
The Lorax is made from cheddar cheese and mozzarella cheese. I wish I could give you more direction on how to cut it out, but I really just did it all freehand with a small knife. I was going to use candy eyes for the eyes but couldn’t find them so I cut a mini marshmallow in half and put a sprinkle in the middle for the pupil. Not sure how good a marshmallow will taste with cheese and fruit, but oh well 🙂 And obviously the watermelon rind should not be eaten. The text was also cut freehand from a slice of cheddar cheese.
I hope this inspires you to make your own fun Dr. Seuss snack in honor of his day!
