Bernat Blanket Seagull Stuffie

June 18, 2026

When I first designed my Mini Crochet Seagull Pattern, I knew I wanted to try it with Bernat Blanket yarn. The original version is cute and compact, making it perfect for keychains, bag charms, and small gifts. But switching to super bulky Bernat Blanket yarn transforms the same pattern into an irresistibly soft and squishy plush stuffie!

The best part? No pattern modifications were needed. I followed the exact same instructions and simply swapped the yarn and hook size. The result is a seagull that is more than twice the size of the original and full of cuddly personality.

It’s always fun to see how dramatically a project can change with a simple yarn substitution. Side by side, these two seagulls look like parent and baby birds!

The original Mini Crochet Seagull is made with Red Heart Super Saver yarn and works up quickly into a small amigurumi that fits in the palm of your hand. The Bernat Blanket version creates a plush toy that’s perfect for hugs, nursery decor, coastal-themed gifts, or simply displaying on a shelf.

For this larger version, I used:

  • Bernat Blanket Yarn in Vintage White and Vapor Gray
  • Bernat Blanket Yarn in Gold for the beak and feet
  • Size K Crochet Hook
  • 15mm safety eyes
  • Polyfil stuffing
  • Tapestry needle

Finished Size: 14 inches tall (including feet) x 7 inches wide (including tail)

The soft plush texture of Bernat Blanket yarn gives the seagull a completely different look and feel while still keeping all the charm of the original design.
