Crochet Angel Owl Ornament

October 30, 2015

AngelOwl2 AngelOwl1

My dear friend Shannon (you may remember her from the Gender Reveal Party) called me with some great news about year ago. She was pregnant their fourth baby! A much wanted pregnancy that they had hoped and prayed for. Unfortunately God had other plans and the pregnancy ended in a miscarriage leaving her and her family devastated.

I had made her an owl family (pictured below) some time ago (you can get the owl family pattern HERE) and she asked me to make her another baby owl to represent their angel baby. This is when I came up with this Angel Baby Owl Ornament! A sweet little crocheted owl with angel wings. A loop of yarn at the top will allow them to hang it on the tree this Christmas!

EricksonOwlFamily

But this story has a happy ending! Almost exactly one year after the miscarriage, Shannon is pregnant again! Almost 20 weeks along now and baby is looking perfect and healthy! So I also made her a Rainbow Owl to represent her rainbow baby (a rainbow baby is a baby due after a pregnancy loss due to miscarriage or stillbirth). Pattern below for the angel owl and rainbow owl read the same except for the color changes.

RainbowOwl2

Materials:
– Worsted Weight Yarn in yellow, brown, and white. If you want to make the rainbow owl you will need rainbow colors + white for the eyes.
– Size F crochet hook
– Poly-fil stuffing
– Small safety eyes
– Tapestry Neelde

Abbreviations:
Magic Ring tutorial
SC = Single Crochet
SC Decrease = Single Crochet Decrease

Owl Body:

My grandmother passed away a few years ago and she loved owls. One year to the date that she passed I had my second son. I think that she had a hand in it and I would love to make this owl to hang on our tree in memory of her. Thank you for the pattern.

Although I did manage to carry my beautiful daughter to term, I, too, have lost several babies. Good luck to your friend.
Question, are you going to put this pattern on Ravelry?

Really sad for your friends to lose a baby. Great idea to give them an angel-owl in their owl-family.
Good luck for your friends with their new pregnancy.

    Have a great weekend, Margaret
