Sloths are slowly on the rise as the new “it” animal! So I definitely had to make a cute little crochet version of this creature! The Crochet Sloth Appliqué is about 6×7 inches and makes a great addition to many crochet projects. This particular one that I’ve made is going front and center of a baby blanket. I will post the finished blanket in a separate post this week!
Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Topaz, Natural, and Clay (gray) for the Sloth
– Bernat Super Value in Walnut (dark brown) for the tree branch
– Bernat Super Value in Deep Sea Green for the leaves

– Size H Crochet Hook
– Two black safety eyes (optional)
– Tapestry Needle
Head:
with brown
magic ring, chain 1, make 2 HDC + 4 SC + 2 HDC + 4 SC, join to first HDC, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in first 2, SC in next 4, 2 SC in next 2, SC in last 4, join, chain 1
Round 3: 2 SC in first 4, SC in next 4, 2 SC in next 4, SC in last 4, join, chain 1
Round 4: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 5: SC in each stitch around, join, fasten off leaving long tail (36 SC)
Face:
with neutral color
magic ring, chain 1 and make 8 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 3: 2 SC in first two, SC in next 6, 2 SC in next two, SC in last 6, join, chain 1
Round 4: 2 SC in first three, SC in next 8, 2 SC in next 3, SC in last 6, join, fasten off leaving long tail
Eyes: make 2
With gray
Chain 5, 2 DC in 3rd chain from hook, HDC in next, SC in last, fasten off
Stitch on eyes (with safety eyes) to face. Use tapestry needle and black yarn to stitch on a nose and a smile. then you can stitch the face onto the head.
Body:
with brown
magic ring, chain 1 and make 6 SC in ring, do not join, pull tight, chain 1, turn
Row 2: SC in first, 2 SC in next 4, SC in last, chain 1, turn
Row 3: SC in each stitch, chain 1, turn (10 SC)
Row 4: SC in first, 2 SC in next 8, SC in last, chain 1, turn
Row 5: SC in each stitch, chain 1, turn (18 SC)
Row 6: SC in first 5, 2 SC in next, repeat until end of row, chain 1, turn
Row 7: SC in each stitch, chain 1, turn (21 SC)
Row 8: SC in first 6, 2 SC in next, repeat until end of row do not turnworking along flat edge
SC 4, chain 12, DC in 3rd chain from hook and next 3, TC in remaining chains, join with a SC just before the middle of the flat edge, DC, HDC 3, chain 14, HDC in second chain from hook, DC in next 4 chains, TC in remaining chains, join to last stitch in flat edge.
Fasten off leaving long tail
Tree Branch:
with dark brown
Chain 40, SC in second chain from hook and next 9, HDC in next 10, DC in next 10, TC in remaining chains, chain 1, turn
SC in first 24 stitches, chain 9, SC in second chain from hook and rest of the way down chain, join back to main tree branch with a slip stitch, fasten off.

Notice that I added little talons to the ends of the limbs when I stitched it onto the blanket.
