Purr-fectly Playful: My Cat & Mouse Red Heart All In One Quilt Motif Pillow

Here is my creative twist on the Red Heart Crochet Quilt Pillow Pattern featuring the NEW Red Heart All in One Quilt Motif Yarn!

A couple of weeks ago, I shared the brand new Red Heart All in One Quilt Motif Yarn. A game-changing yarn that creates perfectly striped corner-to-corner quilt squares without ever changing colors. Well… I’m excited to say my project is finished, and it turned out purr-fect!

I used the Epoch purple colorway and worked up the Free Red Heart Crochet Quilt Pillow Pattern as my base design. This pattern is beginner-friendly, works up quickly, and lets the yarn do all the heavy lifting for beautiful color transitions.

While the original pattern is already gorgeous, I couldn’t resist adding a personal touch. Using the leftover yarn from my skein, I stitched a cat face right in the center of the pillow, plus a tiny mouse in the bottom right corner. It’s such a fun little surprise and a great example of how you can take a basic design and make it uniquely yours.

I used Red Heart Super Saver in color Lavender for the back panels. I used one entire skein!

For the back panels, I used Red Heart Super Saver in Lavender. The pillow has a clever overlapping flap closure, which means you can slip in any throw pillow you already have — and even swap it out for seasonal or holiday covers.

How to add the Cat and Mouse Embellishments:
You get 5 quilt motifs from each ball of Red Heart All In One Yarn. You only need 4 for the front of the pillow panel so I separated the rest of the colors to crochet the Cat and Mouse parts.
Cat Ears (make 2):
Chain 6, SC in 2nd chain from hook, SC in next, HDC in next, DC in remaining chains, chain 1, turn SC up the side of ear, 2 SC at top, SC down other side, fasten off leaving long tail to stitch onto middle diamond of pillow panel.

Cat Nose:
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 2 SC + 2 HDC + 2SC + 2 HDC + 2 SC, join to first SC, fasten off leaving long tail.
Stitch onto middle of pillow panel. Create a little mouth if desired.

Stitch on 3 whiskers on each side of nose and sleepy eyes.

Mouse Ears (make 2):
Magic Ring, chain 2 and make 5 DC in ring, chain 2 and join back down to magic ring. Pull tight.
Stitch onto either side of bottom right corner triangle.

Mouse Nose:
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 8 SC in ring, join, pull tight.
Stitch onto bottom right corner.

Stitch on eyes above nose and below ears.
