Turtle Shell:
with paddy green yarn 
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2 : 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 3: SC in each stitch around, join chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 4: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Round 5: 2 SC in first, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1 (40 SC)
Round 6: 2 SC in first, SC in next 3, repeat around, join, chain 1 (50 SC)
Round 7: SC in each stitch around, join, fasten off leaving long tail. (50 SC)

Turtle Head:
with spring green yarn
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 3: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 4: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next 3, repeat around, join, chain 1 (25 SC)

Note: the part where you made the 2 SC in the last round is the part of the head that faces out. The other side should be touching the shell.

Eye:
Note: This is the same pattern as the seahorse eye.

Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 6 SC in ring, join to first SC, fasten off leaving long tail.

Stitch on eye towards the top right of the head.
Use remaining strand of black yarn to stitch on a smile under the eye.

Top Flippers (make 2):
with spring green yarn
Chain 12, DC in 3rd chain from hook, DC in next 5, HDC in next, 2 sc in next, SC in next, 4 SC in last, working on other side of chain, SC in next 2, SC decrease over next two, HDC in next 2, DC in remaining stitches, fasten off leaving long tail. 

Bottom Flippers (make 2):
with spring green yarn
Chain 11, SC in 2nd chain from hook, 2 SC in next, HDC in next 2, DC in next 5, 4 DC in last, now working on other side of chain, DC in next 3, HDC in next 2, SC in remaining stitches, slip stitch to join to first SC, fasten off leaving long tail. 

Turtle Tail:
with spring green yarn
Chain 6, DC in 3rd chain from hook, DC in next, HDC in next, SC in last, Slip Stitch to join into last chain where you made the SC. Fasten off leaving long tail.

Place all of your pieces on top of the bubble square. It is important that you have everything laid out correctly before you stitch the pieces down.
The shell should be overlapping the 4 flippers and the tail. You can tuck the back flippers underneath the shell a bit more than the front flippers. Play around with it and make sure you like the direction of the flippers. The head should be overlapping the top of the shell.

Stitch everything down to the bubble square once you have it placed correctly. I am working my tapestry needle through the stitches on the outer edge of the shell, through the flippers, and then through the middle of the bubble square stitches so that the stitches don’t show on the backside of the main square.

You will stitch the head on last. Take your time while stitching your turtle pieces onto the square. This is the most tedious part but worth it.

1. RED HEART CROCHET LLAMA-NO-DRAMA PATTERN

I’m going to be an auntie again! This time to a baby girl (my first niece!)  My sister-in-law said llamas are the theme so I’m working on a single crochet graphgan with a sweet llama design and pretty pink yarn. My baby niece is going to be spoiled with lots of crochet gifts. This is the just the start! 

UPDATE: This past weekend we had a wonderful baby shower for my SIL and she loved the llama blanket!

What is a graphgan? A graphgan is a crochet afghan that made by following a design laid out in a graph. Each square represents a stitch or block and the pattern is worked back and forth form one side the graph to the other.

I’m not finished with the blanket but I wanted to post the pixel graph in case any of you were interested in this graphgan design.

Because pixel graph is a bit detailed, I found it easier to follow the color block pattern. I am including both the color block and the written pattern below.

Start with a chain of 118 in the darker pink and then in the second chain from hook, follow the color block or written pattern.

The two main colors I’m using are Caron One Pound in Rose and Soft Pink. You will only need one ball of each and you can feel free to use any of the colors from this line of yarn!

Additionally, I am using Red Heart Super Saver (because that is what I had on hand) in White, Aran (snout and inner ear), Buff (nose), and Black (eyes). But if you are shopping Caron One Pound, I have the suggested colors in the graph.

I did not carry my yarn as I go except when working on the hearts. I rolled up several big balls of each color and attached the strands when needed to color change.

The finished size is approximately 35 x 38 using single crochet stitches. I think this would be absolutely stunning using corner-to-corner crochet. And much bigger!

I added hearts to the corners! These are two crocheted hearts stitch together and then sewn onto the corners.

Heart Pattern:
Magic Ring, in the magic ring, chain 3 + 4 DC + 2 Triple Crochets + chain 4 and slip stitch back down to magic ring circle, chain 4 again + 2 Triple Crochets + 4 DC and join to the top of the starting chain 3. Pull magic ring tight.

Place two hearts back to back and stitch together using your tapestry needle and yarn tail. Work in the back loops.

Then stitch the heart onto the 4 corners of the blanket!

Happy Christmas in July! Get started on your holiday stitching with this NEW free Red Heart Santa’s Coming to Town Crochet Blanket Pattern!

If you are making my Big Eyed Birdie Crochet Squares, you will need to make these matching Birdhouse Crochet Squares!

It uses the same circle to a square pattern as the birdies with the addition of two easy appliqué pieces to create a roof and bottom edge. As always you can choose to make your birdhouse in any colors from the Red Heart Super Saver line of yarn.

All the squares are the same size of approximately 10 x 10 inches.

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver in colors Coffee, Cafe Latte, Buff Beige, and Soft White.

Crochet Circle to Square:
Starting with center circle color (Coffee/dark brown)
Magic Ring, chain 2 and make 10 DC in ring, (10 DC)
join in Cafe Latte brown and chain 2
Round 2: 2 DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (20 DC)
Round 3: 2 DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (40 DC)
Round 4: 2 DC in first stitch, DC in next, repeat around (60 DC)
join in coffee/dark brown, chain 1
Round 5: SC in each stitch around (60 SC)
join in buff beige (this is your background), chain 1

Chain 33, DC in 3rd chain from hook and in next 14 chains, 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in next, DC in last 15 chains, chain 1, turn
Row 2-3: SC in each stitch across making a SC + chain 2 + SC in the top chain 2 space, chain 1, turn
Fasten off leaving long tail after row 3.
Line up the pitch of the roof with the middle and stitch onto top of circle.

Bottom Edge:
with coffee brown yarn
Chain 18, DC in 3rd chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain (16 DC)
Fasten off leaving long tail.
Stitch onto bottom of circle.

Feel free to add embellishments to this! Maybe a heart on the roof pitch, different colors on the roof line, a scalloped edge?! Lots of possibilities!

My plan is to make a blanket using both the bird squares and the birdhouse squares. Then using fleece fabric to line the back of it! I added fleece to the back of THIS Christmas Reindeer Blanket a few years ago if you need a visual of how I did it. I will absolutely post a tutorial for stitching together the bird blanket and adding fleece as soon as I find the perfect fabric.

Ribbit Ribbit! Grab that green yarn and let’s make some easy crochet frog coasters! These could be used as appliqués, keychains, and more! Attach them to hats or blankets or backpacks. Only 6 rounds and you can customize the faces to have a variety of different expressions.

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Spring Green. Shop RHSS Yarn HERE.
If you want the tummy to be a different color, you can use Cornmeal Yellow or Soft White for the first 3 rounds and then switch to Green starting on round 4.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Strand of black yarn to stitch on smile/and eyes
– Optional: Two 12mm Safety Eyes or Buttons. More about the eyeballs below.

with green yarn for solid color frog (or starting with yellow/white for tummy)

Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
switch to green yarn for the rest of the project if you started with yellow/white

Eyeballs:
There are lots of options to create the eyeballs! Stitch on a “smiling eye” with your tapestry needle and black yarn or add black safety or use BUTTONS. You could even use GOOGLY EYES. I’m also considering using THESE Flatback Craft Eyes. Get creative!

Mouth:
Stitch on a smile with a strand of black yarn and your tapestry needle. Use the lines created between the rounds as your guide.

Backing:
If you want to cover the backside and make the coasters sturdier, you could stitch two frogs together (or use a plain frog body without the embellishments), or get a piece of felt or cork and glue it to the backside.

Tongue:
with red yarn
Chain 8, HDC in 3rd chain from hook and next 3, SC in last two chains, fasten off and stitch to smiling mouth.

It’s March! Which means we are ready for the third square in our Under the Sea Crochet-Along! This jellyfish is so easy to crochet but the tedious part is stitching those tentacles onto the bubble square. Take your time, it will be worth it!

– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in colors Aruba Sea and Jade.

– A bit of black and white yarn for the eyes
– Size H Crochet Hook and Size G or F Crochet Hook for the eyes
– Tapestry Needle

Jellyfish Pattern:

Head:
with aruba sea blue yarn
Magic Ring, chain 2 and make 10 DC in ring, do not join, pull tight, chain 2, turn (10 DC)
Row 2: DC in first, 2 DC in next, repeat around, chain 2, turn (15 DC)
Row 3: DC in first 2 stitches, 2 DC in next, repeat around, chain 2, turn (20 DC)
Row 4: DC in first 3 stitches, 2 DC in next, repeat around, chain 2, turn (25 DC)
Row 5: DC in first 4 stitches, 2 DC in next, repeat around, do not turn (30 DC)
Row 6:working along bottom edge, SC in across for a total of 20 stitches, chain 1, turn
Row 7: SC along bottom edge, chain 1, turn (20 SC)
Row 8: skip a stitch, 6 DC in next (first scallop made), skip 2 stitches, slip stitch in next, repeat to make 4 scallops along bottom edge. 
Fasten off leaving long tail.

With a strand of black yarn and your tapestry needle, create a smile in the middle of row 1 of the head.

Tentacles (make 5):
Feel free to use aruba sea or jade blue yarn (or combo of both!)
Chain 26, SC in 3^rd chain from hook and the rest of the way up chain, fasten off leaving long tail.
curve the tentacles in different directions as you stitch them on underneath the head. 

Crochet Cartoon Eyes Pattern – 1 inch eyes (Make 2):
Using a size G or F crochet hook
starting with black yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 6 SC in ring, pull tight, (6 SC)
join to first SC with jade color yarn 
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join to first SC with white yarn (12 SC)
Round 3: SC in each stitch around, join, fasten off leaving long strand of white. (12 SC)
Weave in all other loose ends.

With a strand of white yarn and your tapestry needle, create an eye reflection/sparkle by weaving the yarn through two stitches of the corner of the black pupil. I looped the yarn 2 times and then knotted it on the backside. 

Stitch eyes on either side of the mouth.

Stitch the top of the head down to your bubble square, leave the scallops loose so you can stitch down the tentacles underneath the head before securing it.

If you want the backside of your bubble square to look clean, work your tapestry needle in-between the stitches on your bubble square so your sewing doesn’t show through on the other side. I will be adding the appliqués of all the sea creatures to the front and back of each square so my blanket will be reversible.

Curl and curl those tentacles as you stitch them down to make them wavy.

Happy February! It’s time to start stitching the second square in our Under the Sea CAL! This month our sea creature is a lovely seahorse who is looking very pretty in the color purple!

Seahorse Pattern:
With Orchid yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1 (10 SC)
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)

Round 3: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next 3, repeat around, join, chain 1 (25 SC)

Round 4: SC in first 5 stitches, chain 6, DC in 4^th chain from hook, HDC in next, SC in last chain and slip stitch to join back to the 5^th stitch (nose made), SC in remaining 20 stitches, join, 

Round 5: Chain 30, SC in 2^nd chain from hook and in next 15 chains, HDC in next 2, DC in next 2, TC in next 3, DC in next 2, HDC in next 2, SC in remaining chain, slip stitch to join back to head, 
slip stitch in first 4 stitches and around the nose, continue to slip stitch in next 4 stitches after the nose, SC in remaining stitches in round and now let’s continue to stitch around the body.

SC in first, HDC in next 10, Sc in next 4, 2 SC in next 10, SC in remaining stitches until you get to the tip of the tail, slip stitch decrease 5 times, SC in next 7, HDC in next 2, 2 DC in next 4, HDC in next 3, SC in remaining stitches and slip stitch to join to the neck, fasten off.

Spikes:
Join in Dark Orchid yarn 5 stitches up from nose on head. 
*Chain 4, SC in 3^rd chain from hook and in last chain, slip stitch to join to the same stitch, SC in next two stitches, repeat from * to make 9 spikes. You can space the last two spikes out around the neck area by making 3 SC between each sike. Fasten off.

Tummy:
Join in Dark Orchid yarn on the first HDC on the lower tummy.
SC in 4 stitches, HDC in next 6, SC in remaining stitches until you get to the neck, Fasten off.

Fin:
with Dark Orchid yarn
Magic Ring, Chain 1 and make a SC, 2 DC, SC , slip stitch, SC, 2 DC, 2 SC, join to first SC and fasten off leaving long tail.

Eye:
with black yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 6 SC in ring, join to first SC, fasten off.

With a strand of white yarn or thread, stitch on eye and a little “twinkle” above the eye.

If you want the blanket to be reversible, be sure and make two seahorse appliqués and stitch them on to the front and backside. To keep the squares looking clean when you stitch the appliqués on, try and carefully work your tapestry needle in-between the double crochet stitches of the water bubble square.

We are kicking off the year-long Under the Sea CAL Blanket with a Crochet Starfish to adorn our first square! This smiling starfish is super quick to crochet and I suggest making two so you can sew one on the front and back of the water bubble square.

Right now our ocean friends are just fun clip art images but each month I will transform them into cute crochet sea creature appliqués. The walrus, stingray, and orca (which can also be a dolphin by changing the colors) will be our bonus patterns!

FAQ: Can you give me the yarn color list and amounts for the entire project?
Answer: Unfortunately I do not have the yarns picked out yet. I am crocheting these as I go month to month. This is not a finished project. We are crocheting this together! I am using Red Heart Super Saver yarn for the entire blanket so you can pick and choose your colors based on the clip art image above if you’d like. In addition, the water bubble squares can be crocheted all at once since they are the backdrop to all the sea creatures. I have details about the yarn colors and how much you will need for the squares HERE on the water bubble pattern page.

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in color Carrot Orange.
Shop all colors of Red Heart Super Saver Yarn HERE
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Long strand of black yarn for the eyes/mouth
– Tapestry Needle

Finished Size of Starfish: Approximately 7 x 7 inches

Follow the video tutorial or the pattern and photo tutorial below!

Starfish Pattern:
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1 
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 3: SC in each stitch around, join, (20 SC)
Round 4: Chain 8, SC in second chain from hook, HDC in next 3 stitches, DC in last 3. Now you have made one of the points of the star. Skip three stitches and join with a slip stitch to the next stitch. Now Chain 8 and repeat process until you have all 5 points. Join, chain 1
Round 5: SC in each stitch around all the edges of the 5 points, making 3 SC all in one stitch at the top of each point, join to first SC, chain 1
Round 6: SC one more time around all the edges of the 5 points, making 2 SC at the top of each point, join, fasten off leaving long tail.

With your tapestry needle and a long strand of black yarn, stitch on two eyes on either side of round 2 and a smiling mouth between rounds 2 and 3 under the eyes. My goal is to avoid using safety eyes and noses for this project and I think this will be a good way to improve on those embroidery skills.

It’s time to deep dive into another year long crochet project! I am thrilled to announce that my 2024 crochet-along is an Under the Sea theme! Over the next 12 months I will be crocheting an adorable ocean creature that will fit on a crochet square that looks like a water bubble. At the end of the year I will stitch them all together to make a blanket!

I am doing something a little different than the last two years of crochet-along blankets.
This time you can see all of the cute aquatic animals and characters in the picture above! Right now they are just fun clip art images but I will transform them into cute crochet sea creatures appliqués.

You can get started right now and make all 12 of your water bubble squares!
Get the Crochet Circle in a Square Water Bubble Pattern HERE
These are simple 12 x 12 circle in a square crochet squares that use double crochet stitches.
I am using Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in colors Light Blue fore the circle bubble and Red Heart Super Saver in color Blue for the background edges.

Shop these colors HERE on Yarnspirations.com. You will need at least 4 skeins of Blue and 2 skeins of Light Blue.

You might want to make more than 12 squares because I will have 3 bonus patterns: Walrus, Stingray, and an Orca pattern that can also be used as Dolphin by switching up the colors.

Pick your favorite sea characters of the bunch or make all 15! Your finished blanket will be at least 40 x 50 inches if you make a 12 square blanket and at least 40 x 60 if you make a 15 square blanket.

I have not designed all of these aquatic animals yet so the colors you see in the clip art for each creature are just place holders. The designs when crocheted will probably look a bit different but will still be super cute and made of simple stitches.

I got an idea to make a few other versions of my Winter Cabin Blanket! The snowy house that is featured at the center of the winter cabin blanket, can easily become other cute seasonal houses. I’m starting with this Halloween Haunted House version and then I have an adorable Gingerbread House to make next!

I think we could make a whole set of Holiday Houses! If you have ideas for other houses, please leave suggestions in the comments. My mind is already going towards a Barn and a Beach House.

I am using the Corner-to-Corner crochet technique to crochet the houses. You could also make this as a Single Crochet Graphgan. After I finish the C2C house, I am going to use simple stitches to create a large border similar to the one in the Winter Cabin Blanket HERE.

If you are new to the Corner-to-Corner (C2C) Crochet technique, let me explain a little bit about it. You can take a pixel graph and turn it into a crocheted piece. By starting in one corner of the graph (the lower right hand is most common place to start), you will crochet crochet diagonally in rows until you get to the other corner. One pixel square = a chain 2 + 3 HDC stitches. Please note that I am using HDC stitches for the C2C instead of DC.

For this Halloween House, I have two versions: A house with a full moon and a house with a crescent moon.

I am working on the crescent moon version and will update this post with the border and final blanket when it’s done. I just wanted to make sure you had the graphs and patterns so you could get started. It’s the perfect project for an October night!

Now let’s get started on the BORDER! I am so excited to have figured out how to include a row of BATS along the edging! Follow along below and I will post pictures when I am finished with the blanket.

Border Round 1:
SC in the spaces between each “pixel square”, chain 2 in between each SC. When you get to the corners make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each.

Border Round 2:
Make 2 SC in each chain 2 space all the way around. Make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each corner.

Border Round 3:
Switch to black yarn
DC in each stitch around. Make 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each corner.

Border Round 4:
Switch to gold yarn
DC in each stitch around. Make 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each corner.

Border Round 5:
Switch to yellow yarn
SC in each stitch around. Make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each corner.
Fasten off yellow yarn after joining to first SC in round.

Border Round 6:
Join yellow yarn to corner, make a SC + chain 2 + SC in corner.
SC in first 7 stitches, join in black yarn, make 2 HDC in next stitch, switch back to yellow, SC in next 7, 2 HDC in next stitch, continue around. Do not make 2 HDC with black in the corners. You will end with about 7 stitches (if you have an extra stitch or two before the corner, that is ok!), make a corner (SC + chain 2 + SC), make another 7 stitches, and then start with the 2 HDC along straight edge.

You should have the start of 7 bats along each straight edge of the blanket.
Carry the yarn as you go.

Border Round 7:
Make a SC + chain 2 + SC in corner.
SC with yellow until you get to two stitches before your HDCs.
Skip a stitch and *with black yarn, make 2 DC in the stitch before your 2 HDCs, chain 2, make 2 DC stitches in the stitch right after your HDCs, skip a stitch, switch back to yellow, make 3 SC between each bat, skip a stitch and repeat from *

You should have 3 SC stitches in yellow between the bats and about 7 SC stitches before and after each corner. Make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each corner.

Fasten off black yarn after this round.

Border Round 8:
with yellow yarn
Make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each corner.
SC in each stitch along edge but skip over the black yarn DCs and make 3 SC stitches over the chain 2 space and the middle of those 2 HDCs from round 6. Skip the next 2 DC made with black, continue to SC in each stitch and make 3 SC stitches between the bat wings.

Border Round 8:
with yellow yarn
SC in each stitch around, make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each corner, join

Border Round 9:
Switch to gold yarn
DC in each stitch around. Make 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each corner.

Border Round 10:
Switch to black yarn
DC in each stitch around. Make 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each corner.

Border Round 11-16:
Switch to purple yarn
DC in each stitch around. Make 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each corner.

Border Round 17:
Switch to black yarn
DC in each stitch around. Make 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each corner.

Border Round 18:
Switch to gold yarn
DC in each stitch around. Make 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each corner.

Border Round 19:
Switch to yellow yarn
DC in each stitch around. Make 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each corner.
Fasten off or continue to DC in rounds using any sequence of colors.

The finished blanket is about 38 x 38 inches so you will want to continue to crochet in rounds if you want a larger afghan.

Add crochet bats to the corners!
I came up with this easy bat applique a few days ago and it works perfectly on all 4 corners of the blanket as an alternative to pom-poms or tassels.

It’s pumpkin season! Or at least that is what the retail stores and Starbucks are telling us. I needed to get a little bit of autumn decor on my hook and if you feel the same way, these easy pumpkin crochet coasters are the perfect project! Only 3 rounds of crocheting so you will have an entire set whipped up in minutes.

This pattern was originally designed for Yarnspirations.com as a pumpkin granny square that was stitched together for a larger blanket. See the CROCHET PUMPKIN PATCH BLANKET HERE. Just use the first 3 rounds of the pattern and you have an adorable pumpkin coaster!

They could also be strung as garland for a mantel, stitched together for a mini plushie, or use as an applique on a blanket or hat!

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Pumpkin, Cafe Latte, and Spring Green.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle

Pumpkin Coaster Pattern:
with orange yarn
Magic Ring, chain 2 and make 16 DC in ring, join to first DC, chain 2 (16 DC)
Round 2: 2 DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (32 DC)
Round 3: [2 DC in first, DC in next -repeat that a total a 6 times], 2 HDC in next, SC in next two stitches, 2 HDC in next, DC in next, [2 DC in first, DC in next – repeat that 6 times], SC in last 3 stitches, fasten off weave in ends.

Stem:
In the last 3 SC stitches you just made in round 3, Join in brown yarn, chain 2 + DC in first, DC in next, DC + chain 2 in last. Fasten off, weave in ends.

Vine:
with green yarn
Chain 10, 2 SC in second chain from hook and rest of the way down chain.
It will curl and coil up! Tie vine onto stem of pumpkin.

THE ORANGE MONSTER:
1. Make the head/body of pattern just how it’s written using Red Heart Super Saver in Pumpkin Orange.
2. Crochet two Crochet Cartoon Eyes. One in the original size and one in the smaller size using Spring Green for the eye color. GET THE FREE CROCHET CARTOON EYE PATTERN HERE.
3. Make 3 horns in black yarn just as the pattern is written.
4. Make the mouth a bit bigger by chaining 25 instead of 15.

THE PURPLE MONSTER:
1. Make all parts of the pattern as written except the eye.
2. Make the regular size crochet cartoon eye using Turqua for the eye color. Crochet an extra round on the eye in white yarn: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around. Fasten off leaving long tail to stitch the eye onto the middle of the purple monster.

THE GREEN MONSTER:
1. Make the head/body of pattern just how it’s written using Red Heart Super Saver in Spring Green.
2. Make two horns just as the pattern is written but in Spring Green instead of black yarn.
3. Make 2 regular size cartoon eyes using purple for the eye color. Stitch the eyes onto the tops of the green horns instead of the head/body.
4. Make the mouth bigger by chaining 35 instead of 15. Stitch it on in a wobbly squiggle.

As you can see, just a few small changes and you have a variety of silly monsters!

I had a few comments on social media that these would be fun hats. I think they definitely would!

I finished the Llama Love Blanket using this adorable Llama Love Crochet Blocks pattern I found on Yarnspirations.com! And I absolutely adore these colors of Red Heart Super Saver together! I might have got a little carried away with the border because it turned out much bigger than I was expecting (approximately 48×54 inches) but you could make the blanket as big or small as you’d like! It’s such a great gift idea!

To begin this blanket, refer to my first post HERE about the Llama Love Crochet Blocks. You will want to make at least 4 of those first!

GET THE FREE LLAMA LOVE CROCHET BLOCK PATTERN HERE

I’m using Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in colors Coral Red, Cornmeal Yellow, Frosty Green, and Country Blue for the blocks. The llama is crocheted with Soft White and I also used soft white for the border.

And a Size H Crochet Hook!

You will need 2 skeins of each color to make the blanket!

Once you have made the Llama blocks, you will crochet around the edges in soft white.
Attach the soft white yarn anywhere on the edge of your block and DC around all the edges making 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each corner.

Weave in the ends and then lets take the soft white yarn and attach the 4 blocks together using one of my favorite techniques: The Slip Stitch Join

Slip Stitch to join up the middle vertically and then join the blocks going horizontally.

No need to fasten off your yarn! Start making DC Stitches along the edges using the same soft white yarn. DC in each stitch, making 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in each of the four corners.

The border consists of
2 rounds soft white
5 rounds coral red
2 rounds soft white
5 rounds cornmeal yellow
2 rounds soft white
5 rounds frosty green
2 rounds soft white
5 rounds country blue

This blanket turned out big! I had a hard time photographing it!

Let’s talk about the back of the blanket for a minute.
You can leave the blocks as solid colors (like mine currently is) or add more llama appliqués to the backside. I am thinking I might design a few cactus appliqués for the back!

Let’s add a little bit of color to our crochet bouquet with this Tulip Flowers! I have made crochet tulips in the past but never with this 3-dimensional look which I think turned out fabulous and coordinates perfectly with the Daisy Flower and Sunflower. So many colors to choose from in the Red Heart Super Saver yarn line. A dozen tulips in different colors would be beautiful!

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Papaya (this is a Red Heart with Love color), Jade, Orchid, and Spring Green for the stem.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Pip Cleaners (green color is best but I only had brown on hand)
– Poly-fil fiber stuffing
– Tapestry Needle

Crochet Tulip Pattern:

Flower Part 1:
with pink (or whatever color you want your tulip to be)
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 3-10: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Fasten off after round 10, leave long tail
Stuff with polyfil 

Pinch the top of flower in closed and weave tapestry needle through middle

Then pinch it the other direction and weave tapestry needle through middle the other direction. This should give you 4 little points at the top of the flower.

Flower Part 2 (The Flower Petals): Make 2
with same color as your main flower
Chain 12, DC in 3^rd chain from hook and in next 3, HDC in next 3, SC in next 2, 3 SC in last, now working on other side of chain, SC in first 2, HDC in next 3, DC in last 4, join to first DC. Fasten off leaving long tail.
Stitch on petals to either side of tulip flower.

Leaves:
Chain 13, slip stitch in 2nd chain from hook, SC in next, HDC in next 3, DC in next 3, TC (triple crochet) in next 3, DC in last + chain 2 to join back to last chain, fasten off. Stitch onto stem.

Stem:
with spring green yarn
Chain 36 (or less for a shorter stem), SC in second chain from hook and in the next 32 chains (you should have 3 chains remaining), HDC in remaining 3 chains, chain 1, turn
Row 2: HDC in first 3 stithes, SC in remaining, chain 1, turn
Row 3: SC in first 32 stitches, HDC in remaining 3, fasten off leaving long tail
Tip: leave both loose ends attached.

Bend one end of your pipe cleaner and twist so it’s not pokey on the bottom. This will go on the bottom of your stem. Leave the top of pipe cleaner sticking out over the top (where the HDC stitches are).

With your tapestry needle, stitch stem piece around your pipe cleaner. Make sure you stitch around the bottom so your pipe cleaner isn’t poking through.

Now with the end that is hanging over the top, poke it through a stitch on the bottom of the tulip flower.
Stitch the top of the stem to the bottom of the tulip with your other loose end!

Tulip Appliques

I’m starting to make a few accessories for my Forest Friends! This little blanket matches the wording on the cover of my new book Crochet Cute Forest Friends and it works as a perfect little blanket to tuck these cute crochet animals in. The Forest Friends pictured are just a handful of the amigurumi featured in my new book. I made a pixel graph of the words Forest Friends using StitchFiddle.com. Feel free to use THIS GRAPH if you want to make your own blanket! You may want to print it out in two separate sheets and tape them together so you can see the pixel blocks better. You could also just use the words Friends to make a blanket for you bestie!

I’m using colors Saffron and Paddy Green from Red Heart Super Saver yarns. Begin with a starting chain of 167 and SC in each chain from a length of 166. Each pixel you see in the graph is equal to one SC stitch. This is crocheted as a single crochet graphgan and I carried my yarn while making the color changes. I have a tutorial on how to change the colors and carry your yarn on my YouTube Channel:

This blanket is still a work in progress. It measures about 48 inches x 18 inches and fits over our Forest Friends but I’m thinking about making more panels and adding on some fun appliqués like this adorable mushroom.

I’m catching up on a few patterns that I promised to post several months ago and this folded cuff brimmed beanie is one of them! It’s a very simple pattern made of double crochet stitches but the cute folded brim brings that extra flair. And the best part is that you can add a peek-a-boo crochet applique to the front like I did with this bunny!

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn (colors carrot orange, turqua, and light raspberry pictured)

The trick to this hat is to turn your work before the last 4 rounds so that your stitches on the brim will be facing the right way when folded up!

Picture Below: Chain 2 and turn before the last 4 rounds. You will see the backs of the stitches but when you fold the brim up, it will be the front of the stitches!

After you fold up the brim, feel free to use your yarn tail to stitch it in place. I typically just stitch down the back so it doesn’t completely unfold when I put it on and I leave the front open to add a cute peek-a-boo applique.

Add a Peek-A-Boo Applique! Stitch on a cute little crochet animal with the head sticking out from under the brim flap. Then add the paws to the top edge of the brim flap.

Bunny Applique pattern:
with light gray yarn (or whatever color you choose)
use a size H hook or size down to a smaller hook (F or G hook) for the baby hats.
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Round 4: SC in each stitch around, join, do not fasten off (30 SC)
now lets make the ears
Chain 10, SC in second chain from hook , SC in next, HDC in next 2, DC in next, TC (triple crochet) in remaining chains, join to the next stitch on head of bunny, do not fasten off
Chain 10, SC in second chain from hook , SC in next, HDC in next 2, DC in next, TC (triple crochet) in remaining chains, join to the next stitch on head of bunny, fasten off leaving long tail. Second ear is now made.
Add on safety nose and small 6mm safety eyes or take a strand of black/pink yarn and stitch on eyes and a nose with a tapestry needle
Let the ears flop over or stitch them on sticking straight up!

Bunny Paws (make 2):
Magic Ring, chain 2 and make 10 HDC in ring, join to first HDC, fasten off leaving long tail.

I started this pretty Pink Palette Crochet Blanket a few months ago and thought it would be a great time to pick it back up and finish it! I made it for my sweet neighbors who welcomed a baby girl named Sia into their family this past September. She is the cutest baby and I have been anxious to get this done for her. I love these shades from Red Heart yarn and I decided to customize the final piece by surface slip stitching her name onto the corner and then adding hearts to the backside.

I originally started making this blanket to match a Gerbie onesie set but I decided to leave off the free-handed flowers because they felt too messy. You can see the PART ONE of this pink palette blanket post HERE but I will go over all the details again in this post.

THE YARN:
I am using a variety of colors from the Red Heart Super Saver and Red Heart With Love brand. I do have one color from the Bernat Super Value line called Peach and unfortunately I think it has been discontinued, but you can find a similar shade in the Craftsmart brand from Michaels called Peach as well. SEE it HERE. I usually don’t mix and match brands of yarn so much but I just LOVE these shades together!

For the border I used Red Heart with Love in color Minty.
You only need one skein of each color if you are making this size! (starting chain of 87)

THE Pink Palette Blanket CROCHET PATTERN
I’m using the same pattern as my Crochet Sunset Blanket. It uses the grit stitch! I like the texture and it lends well to attaching appliqués. The grit stitch is 2 SC, skip a stitch, 2 SC in next. Pretty easy! You could also use the moss stitch or just crochet in basic rows of single crochet stitches. Make your blanket as big or small as you’d like!

Finished Size: 28 x 34 inches

Chain 87, SC in second chain from hook, skip a chain, 2 SC in chain, skip a chain, *2 SC in next, skip a chain, repeat from * until you get to the last chain, make one SC in the last chain, chain 1, turn
Row 2: SC in first stitch, skip a stitch, *2 SC in next stitch, skip a stitch, repeat from * until you get to the last stitch, make one SC in the last stitch, chain 1, turn.
Repeat row 2 until you get 16 rows. Then add in a new color and crochet 16 rows of each color until finished!

To begin the border you will want to crochet around the blanket evenly with SC stitches in color minty. Then get started on THIS simple Single Crochet in the Back Loop Border by friends over at Daisy Farm Crafts! They have a very easy and popular video tutorial on how to make this gorgeous border. There is no awkward corner turns and you will not need to attach any pieces at the end. Such a great technique!

If you want to personalize your blanket, I love using surface slip stitches to write on names and other cute embellishments! You can find my Surface Slip Stitch tutorial below:

You will notice the backside of your surface slip stitching doesn’t look so nice. You can easily cover this up with appliqués!! I made a few of my Easy Crochet Hearts and stitched them on. Be careful when attaching appliqués. Work your needle in-between the stitches of your blanket so you don’t see messy sewing stitches on the other side of your blanket.

Well, it turns out that there is really no limits when it comes to this pattern because just by changing up the color of yarn and leaving off the snout on Bones the dog, you can make yourself an adorable crochet bunny! Of course you will also need to create a pom-pom tail. Think of all the ways you could adjust this simple and versatile project!

You will want to crochet the ears for Bones the Dog. They make fabulous floppy bunny ears! And ignore the color changes in the pattern. You can continue crocheting in the one color you choose for your bunny. I used Red Heart Super Saver in Baby Pink.

Add two small 10mm black safety eyes and a large pink safety nose in the middle of the head to make the face. Easy-peasy, right?!

Don’t forget that cute pom-pom tail! I used a large clover Pom-Pom Maker to create a fluffy round tail.

Each year, the Great Pumpkin rises out of the pumpkin patch… and this year it’s coming to you in pillow form! I’ve made a few of these Crochet Pocket Pillows this year and I just love pairing them with classic seasonal books. I thought “The Great Pumpkin” was a perfect choice for October and the autumn season.

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in colors Pumpkin, Tea Leaf, Cafe Latte
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
– 14×14 Pillow Form (Get it HERE at Michaels)
– Snoopy Applique Pattern (GET IT HERE)

Pillow FRONT:

On the front of the pillow is my Crochet Pumpkin Granny Square. This is a free pattern that I designed for Yarnspirations.com several years ago. All you need to do is crochet a few extra rounds to make it fit the front of the pillow.

GET THE FREE CROCHET PUMPKIN GRANNY SQUARE PATTERN HERE
After Round 6, you will make 5 more rounds of Double Crochets (repeat round 6 until you have 11 rounds) then you will add in your brown yarn and make 2 rounds of SC stitches, fasten off and weave in ends.

Pillow BACK:

Large Pillow Panel: 
with pumpkin orange yarn
Chain 46, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn
Row 2-50: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (45 SC)
Fasten off and weave in ends at the end of row 50.
NOTE: depending on your tension or the slight difference in yarn, one panel may need a few more rows than the other. Line them up and make sure they are the same size.

Half Pillow Panel for Pocket:
with cafe latte brown yarn
Chain 46, SC in second chain from hook and there rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn
Row 2-25: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (45 SC)
Fasten off and weave in ends at the end of row 25.

Stitch Snoopy onto the back panel with his paws on the pocket so he is peaking over.
Line up your pillow panels and SC around the edges to connect them all. Add in pillow form before completely closing.

The Grinch Heart Pillow

My neighbor had a baby girl a few weeks ago and I’ve been wanting to crochet her something. When I spotted this Gerber onesie set from Walmart, it felt like it was the perfect Autumn pink palette for a stroller blanket! I wanted to get you guys the color names and also some details of how I am going to be crocheting this blanket before I finish so you can get started on it too!

Here are crochet blanket sizes for reference:

THE YARN:
I am using a variety of colors from the Red Heart Super Saver and Red Heart With Love brand. I do have one color from the Bernat Super Value line called Peach and unfortunately I think it has been discontinued, but you can find a similar shade in the Craftsmart brand from Michaels called Peach as well. SEE it HERE. I usually don’t mix and match brands of yarn so much but I just LOVE these shades together! Feels like Fall!

For the border I will be using Red Heart with Love in color Minty.

THE GERBER ONESIE SET
I found this trio pack of Gerber Girl Onesies Bodysuits HERE at Walmart. They are adorable and affordable! And they come in sizes Preemie – 12 months.

THE CROCHET PATTERN
I am going to be using my Sunset Blanket Pattern using the grit stitch! I like the texture and it lends well to attaching appliqués. The grit stitch is 2 SC, skip a stitch, 2 SC in next. Pretty easy! You could also use the moss stitch or just crochet in basic rows of single crochet stitches. Make your blanket as big or small as you’d like!

Crochet Sunset Blanket Pattern

The border will be  THIS simple Single Crochet in the Back Loop Border by friends over at Daisy Farm Crafts! I love the thickness and it’s such an easy technique! Again, I will be using Red Heart with Love in color Minty which will be such a beautiful accent color!

THE EMBELLISHMENTS:
I wanted to match the adorable floral on the Gerber Onesie so I started playing around with some crochet flower designs! I will have the patterns for these in Part 2 of the Autumn Pink Palette Blanket.
