For those of you that love crochet but also love canning, this one is for you! During the Fall season we enjoy lots of farmers market goodies like jams, jellies, pickles, and honey which inspired me to make canning jar crochet squares! It started out with a design for a Ball brand mason jar but my ultimate goal is to create a blanket using all different colored jars of various canned goods. I am using iron-on appliqués of fruits but I will give some suggestions for other ways to make the labels below.

Materials:
– Worsted weight yarn in any color of your choosing! I am using a lot of different colors from Red Heart Super Saver, Bernat Super Value, and Red Heart with Love. Use what you have on hand or shop colors HERE on Yarnpirations.com
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
– Iron-on Appliques

Finished Size: approximately 7 x 6 inches

Canning Jar Pattern:
with jar color
Chain 8, DC in 3^rd chain from hook and next 5, 4 DC in last, now working on other side of chain, DC in next 5, 4 DC in last, join to first DC, chain 2
Round 2: DC in first 5, 2 DC in next 4, DC in next 5, 2 DC in last 4, join to first DC, chain 1
Round 3: SC in first 7, 2 SC in next 6, SC in next SC in next 7, 2 SC in last 6, 
Join in background yarn color, chain 1
Round 4: HDC in first 8, 2 DC + chain 1 + 2 DC in next, HDC in next 8, 2 DC + chain 1 + 2 DC in next, HDC in next 9, 2 DC + chain 1 + 2 DC in next, HDC in last, join, chain 2
Round 5: DC in each stitch around making 2 DC + chain 1 + 2 DC in each of the 4 corners, join, chain 1
Round 6: SC in each stitch around making 2 SC + chain 2 + 2 SC in each corner, fasten off and weave in ends.

Jar top: 
with gray or brown yarn
chain 7, 2 SC in second chain from hook, SC in each chain until last, make 2 SC in last, fasten off.

Jar label:
with cream colored yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 2 SC + 3 HDC + 2 SC + 3 HDC, join to first SC, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in first 3 stitches, 2 HDC in next 2 stitches, 2 SC in next 3, 2 HDC in remaining 2 stitches, fasten off leaving long tail.

There are several options for the fruit embellishments for the labels. I am using iron-on patches that are hot-glued on to the crochet jar label… but as you can see, the iron-ons come in sooo many different sizes and not many of them will fit on the jar label. You could crochet or stitch on a fruit with yarn (unfortunately I don’t have a pattern) or use buttons, charms, or even use your cricut maker to make vinyl words or images. THIS is a great tutorial by Moogly on how to attach circut cut vinyl onto crochet.

It’s a party in the USA! Zoe and I are ready for all the 4th of July festivities with matching Red, White, and Blue Crochet Crop Tops! This is the same pattern as I posted a few weeks ago (FIND IT HERE) but I just switched up the colors. I also increased the the stitch count on my top so it was an adult size Small. Pattern notes below.

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Cherry Red, White, and Blue. Shop these perfectly patriotic colors on Yarnspirations.com!
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry needle

Get the original Granny Stitch Top pattern HERE (kids size)

I have figured out that the way to increase your starting chain is to make sure the count is divisible by 3. So I started with a chain of 90 for my adult size small top. Add or subtract multiples of 3 to that number to get your desired size. I originally started with a chain of 102 for myself thinking that would be a good fit but it was way too big for me. So once you get your starting chain, then you add your rounds of granny stitches. I did 5 rounds of blue (you work from the bottom up), then 5 rounds of white, and then 5 rows of red. I left a 6 granny stitch space on either side for the armholes and chained 35 for each strap.

If you make this top for yourself, please let us know the stitch count in the comments! We can all join together to become testers since we are all different sizes!

Crochet Granny Stitch Top Size Small:
starting with blue
Chain 90 and join to first chain to make a circle, chain 3 + 2 DC all in first chain (this makes you first granny stitch cluster), skip two stitches, 3 DC in next, skip two stitches, 3 DC in next, repeat around and join to your first stitch (the top of the chain 3). You should have 30 granny stitch clusters
Round 2-5: slip stitch over so you are working in the first space between the granny clusters, make a chain 3 + 2 DC, make 3 DC in the next space, and repeat around making 3 DC in all the spaces, join to the first chain 3 stitch. (30 granny stitch clusters)
Round 6-10: fasten off blue yarn and join in white yarn to the first space between the granny clusters, make a chain 3 + 2 DC, make 3 DC in the next space, and repeat around making 3 DC in all the spaces, join to the first chain 3 stitch. (30 granny stitch clusters)
fasten off white yarn after round 10
Row 11: Lay your piece flat. You will want join in your red yarn and make 10 granny stitch clusters along the front (still working in those spaces between the granny clusters from previous row), chain 1 and turn.
Row 12-15: slip stitch over so you are working in the first space between the granny stitch clusters, granny stitch clusters until you reach the last space, chain 1, turn
You should have 6 granny stitches along the top at the end of row 15.
Now turn the top over and do the same on the backside (repeating rows 11-15). You should have 6 granny stitch clusters on either side of the top that will be the armpits.
Weave in ends!

Now lets make the straps:
Starting at the top corner of the front of the top, join in red yarn and SC along armpit of top, when you get around the armpit and to the top corner of the back of the top, chain 30 and join to the top corner where you started. fasten off.
Do this on the other top corners/armpit area of the tank.

Now for the ribbing! I am using a really easy technique by Daisy Farm Crafts called the Back Loop Single Crochet Ribbed Border. I LOVE the way she does this ribbing on her blankets because it works right along the edge and you don’t need to sew any pieces together. Below is a very easy video tutorial for the DFC YouTube Page. Although she is showing you how to do it on a blanket, you apply the same technique to the edges of this tank top! For the bottom of the tank top I attached my blue yarn and did the exact same stitch count as Tiffany from Daisy Farm Crafts. So the ribbing along the bottom is a total of 7 SC long. For the top of the tank top, I joined in my pink yarn at the top and made a chain 4 which means my ribbing is 3 SC in length. You will work along the top edges of the tank top and continue along the chain straps. It will be one big circle of ribbing. Do not work ribbing along the armpit spaces.

This Crochet Bunny has very little sewing involved because the only pieces that need to be attached are the arms and feet (and those are optional!) A super sweet Tiny Crochet Shamrock that will only take you 2 minutes to crochet! I put this tutorial up on social media but thought it deserved a place on my blog as well. So many ways you can use it! Many of you mentioned stringing a set of shamrocks together as garland or even a shamrock rainbow neckless. And of course this makes the perfect applique as well for all your St. Patrick’s Day crochet projects!

Materials:
-Red Heart Super Saver Yarn. I am using color Tea Leaf for this tutorial.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle

Tiny Shamrock Pattern:
Magic ring, [chain 3 + DC + SC + DC + chain 3 + slip stitch] 3x in ring, pull ring tight, chain 4, slip stitch down chain and fasten off (to make the stem), weave in ends.

It’s the first day of March which means we have a new Gnome to add to our collection! This little leprechaun gnome is ready for some St Patrick’s Day celebrations! Grab your green yarn and let’s get started crocheting this cutie!

If you missed the big announcement, Jen from Day by Day Clay and Crochet Group and I have team up for a very fun YEAR-LONG collaboration! Each month Jen will create a Gnome Polymer Clay Crochet Hook and I will create a matching Gnome Corner-to-Corner Crochet rectangle. Our designs will be holiday and seasonal themed so for the month of January, we made a Winter Gnome, February we created a sweet Valentine Gal Gnome, and for March, we have our Leprechaun. I have a few pixel graph options for you, including a Shamrock design and both girl and boy gnomes. I know many of you are making more than one set of gnomes so have fun creating multiple C2C gnomes for each month!

At the end of the 12 months I will be stitching the gnomes together to make a large blanket! I will be sure to include a tutorial at the end of the year that shows how to stitch the gnomes together. I know that C2C is a new technique for many of you so I am going to try and work on some very specific C2C video tutorials to help you through the process of crocheting these gnomes.

Finished Size of the Gnome Crochet Rectangle: 20 inches tall x 14 inches wide

Now let’s make the Gnome Corner-to-Corner Crochet Rectangle!

Corner-to-Corner Crochet lets you turn almost any image into a pixel graph and then from a pixel graph into a crocheted piece! The Corner-to-Corner technique basically means the you start in one corner (the lower right hand is most common place to start) and crochet diagonally in rows until you get to the other corner. You follow the pixel graph to create the color changes that make up the picture of the gnome. One pixel square = a chain 2 + 3 HDC stitches. Please note that I am using HDC stitches for the C2C instead of DC. You can use either! The DC is more common but keep in mind that your gnome rectangle will end up slightly bigger if using Double Crochet.

We have lots of options this month! I really wanted a shamrock version of the hat but it turns out that when you convert a shamrock into pixel art, it loses a lot of detail when it’s this small of a graph. So feel free to mix and match any of these graphs.

If you crochet a blank hat (either girl or boy gnome), you can stitch on a Shamrock Applique to the hat when you are finished!

Not to overwhelm you with options but here are two more designs that you could potentially use for your March Gnome. In the pixel graph below the Shamrock looks like a “blob.” But if you surface slip stitch a border and stem on it when you are done, it will look like a pretty shamrock!

Here is a sweet project you can make with your Polar Bear Applique: A Polar Bear Pocket Pillow! Yep, the pillow has a fun and functional pocket on the backside! A great place to keep a book for readers of any age! Plus I added tiny crochet hearts on the front of the pillow to make it perfect for Valentine’s gifting!

GET THE POLAR BEAR APPLIQUE PATTERN HERE

To make the pillow you will need to crochet 3 pieces. These are simple single crochet panels. One in turquoise and one gray that are the same size and then a 3rd panel that is half the size of the first two.

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Turqua, Light Gray, and Peach (for the hearts)

Large Pillow Panels: Make one in turquoise and one in gray
Chain 46, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn
Row 2-50: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (45 SC)
Fasten off and weave in ends at the end of row 50.
NOTE: depending on your tension or the slight difference in yarn, one panel may need a few more rows than the other. Line them up and make sure they are the same size.

Half Pillow Panel for Pocket:
with turquoise yarn
Chain 46, SC in second chain from hook and there rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn
Row 2-25: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (45 SC)
Fasten off and weave in ends at the end of row 25.

Step 1: Stitch on your polar bear appliqué and the hearts (optional) to the front turquoise panel of the pillow.

Step 2: Stack your pillow panels. The front turquoise with the bear, then the gray panel, then the pocket panel.

Step 3: Single Crochet the panel edges together. I recommend starting at the bottom edge. Be sure to add in your pillow form before completely stitching it shut!

Keep in mind that you can use any color combos for your Polar Bear Pocket Pillow! Lots of options!

After I made the Turkey Coaster, I knew I had to make more! Here are a bunch of Crochet Christmas Coaster designs that I came up with! We have a wreath, peppermint candy, snowman, Santa (or elf!), gingerbread, and ornament. But these can be much more than coasters. Hang them from your tree, use them as fridge magnets, appliqués on blankets or totes, gift toppers, and more! Can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Each one measures approximately 4 inches round and is worked from the same basic pattern. Grab some scrap yarn in a few different colors to add on all the fun embellishments. I have a YouTube video that will walk you through some of the details.

Materials:

If making the peppermint candy coaster:
After surface slip stitching the swirl onto the coaster, attach yarn at one end, chain 3 and make 2 in same stitch, 3 DC in next stitch, 2 DC + chain 3 in next, join, fasten off and repeat on opposite side of coaster.

Wreath Coaster Pattern:
Starting with white yarn..
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join to first SC, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around,
join in green yarn, chain 1
Round 4: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Round 5: 2 SC in first, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1 (40 SC)
Round 6: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 7: skip a stitch 4 DC all in next, skip a stitch, *join to next, skip a stitch, 4 DC in next, skip a stitch, repeat *

With a long strand of red yarn, weave yarn in and out of round 6 (abut every two stitches) and tie in a bow where the ends meet.

This camper pattern was posted as a spring/summer project here on my blog last May so all you need to do is switch up the colors to be a bit more christmassy!

I couldn’t let the month of July pass by without a Christmas in July Crochet project! I could honestly crochet for Christmas all year long. The feeling of the holidays and the coziness of crochet brings me so much joy and contentment.

This Snow Globe Crochet Blanket is going to be a new holiday must make! The pattern works from the middle outward. The glass ball of the snow globe takes shape, then the circle becomes a square and just by changing colors as you repeat the patterns rounds, you can create the bottom of the snow globe as well as the background of the blanket at the same time!

I’m sure you have figured this out for yourself, but the center of the snow globe can be anything you’d like!! I have included the pattern for the snowman, but you could stitch on an appliqué for a tree, gingerbread man, Santa, holly berries, and much more!

Add in safety eye
If you want to double up the eyes to make them more sturdy and to hide the safety eye, make a solid color piece using the same pattern (green for frog or red circle for crab) and then stitch the eyeball eye piece and the solid eyes piece together.

NOTE: if you don’t want to use safety eyes start eye pattern using black yarn, switch to a round of white for Round 2 and then Round 3 will remain the same using the main hat color.

Crab Claws:

Big Claw:
Magic ring, chain 1 in ring, make 4 SC in ring, continue to crochet in rounds
Rd 2: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next, repeat around (6 SC)
Rd 3: SC in each stitch around (6 SC)
Rd 4: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next 2 stitches, repeat around (8 SC)
Rd 5: SC in each stitch around (8 SC)
Rd 6: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next 3 stitches, repeat around (10 SC)
Rd 7: SC in each stitch around (10 SC)
Fasten off and set aside for a moment

Small claw:
Magic ring, chain 1 in ring, make 4 SC in ring, continue to crochet in rounds

Now you are going to connect the two claws. Begin to SC where you left off in big claw to begin attaching them. SC all the way around both claws. You should have 18 Single crochets but don’t worry if your stitch count is off. It really doesn’t matter

Rd 3: SC decrease in each stitch around
Rd 4-6: SC in each stitch around (9 SC)
Fasten off leaving long tail to sew onto hat.

To celebrate our move to Phoenix and in honor of Arizonas gorgeous sunsets, I crocheted a Sunset Blanket! Very easy to use colors that are already in your stash. This is a mix of yarn from Yarnspirations.com. Mostly Red Heart Super Saver but with a few Bernat Super Value shades thrown in for a gorgeous gradient of colors that looks like the sun is setting over the desert landscape. I framed the finished blanket with a solid black border using a very easy SC in the back loop technique that I will explain more about below.

Materials:

Finished Size: 28 x 34 inches but you could make it bigger by making your starting chain longer.
Note: my blanket is pretty small.. more like a stroller baby blanket size so I suggest starting your blanket with a chain count of more than 100.

I chose to use the grit stitch because I like the texture and look but you could absolutely just use the basic single crochet stitch in repeating rows to make this blanket. The grit stitch is 2 SC, skip a stitch, 2 SC in next. Pretty easy!

Chain 87, SC in second chain from hook, skip a chain, 2 SC in chain, skip a chain, *2 SC in next, skip a chain, repeat from * until you get to the last chain, make one SC in the last chain, chain 1, turn
Row 2: SC in first stitch, skip a stitch, *2 SC in next stitch, skip a stitch, repeat from * until you get to the last stitch, make one SC in the last stitch, chain 1, turn.
Repeat row 2 until you get 16 rows. Then add in a new color and crochet 16 rows of each color until finished!

To begin the border you will want to crochet around our blanket evenly with SC in black yarn. Then get started on THIS simple Single Crochet in the Back Loop Border by friends over at Daisy Farm Crafts! They have a very easy and popular video tutorial on how to make this gorgeous border. There is no awkward corner turns and you will not need to attach any pieces at the end. Such a great technique!

I’m diving into Valentine’s Day Crochet projects and came up with a little heart design that can be used for a variety of projects! A basic heart becomes a circle that can be as small or big as you’d like. Keep increasing for a larger blanket sized circle or add just a few rounds and use it as bunting, a coaster, and/or appliqués. I’m sure you will think of many other ways to use this pattern and I can wait to see what you come up with!

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in white, Pale Plum, Orchid, and Medium Purple.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle

We will start with a heart and then transform it into a circle. Feel free to keep going and make it as large as you’d like! The heart circle that I demonstrate in my YouTube Video below measures 5×5 inches.

Heart in a Circle Pattern:
starting with dark purple (or heart color of your choosing)

Chain 11, DC in 4th chain from hook, HDC in next, SC in next, 3 SC in next, SC in next, HDC in next, DC in next, 4 DC in last,

I ended up making a foot stool cover! I got the foot stool at Five Below for $5! I continued the heart circle pattern until I got to the increase of “2 SC in first, SC in next 12” and then I made 30 more rounds of SC stitches. It slips right over the stool and is adorable in Zoe’s room! Plus it’s removable and washable. You could make it in many different colors! I’m not quite finished with this Chevron Blanket but I wanted to go ahead and put a quick tutorial on how to crochet in a chevron pattern! It’s actually much easier than you think. Let me show you a simple technique that will have you crocheting chevrons all year round! So many color combination possibilities and you can coordinate the design with so many holidays and seasons.

For this blanket I am using beautiful shades of Bernat Super Value in Royal Blue, Peacock Blue, Cool Blue, and White to create a look of waves. I will be adding my OCEAN FRIEND APPLIQUES to the blanket when it is finished.

As you can see, the chevron works like a zig-zag line that is made up of peaks (points) and valleys (dips). I am using 3 DC for the increase (peaks) and a SC Decrease over 3 stitches for the valleys (the dips). Then all you need to do is make a SC in the 4 stitches between each peak and valley. You will get the hang of it by the second row!

Feel free to make the blanket as small or large as you’d like!
You will work is multiples of 12 +2
The blanket I am working on has a starting chain of 110 (12 x9 = 108 +2 = 110) and is about 24 inches wide. This is a small blanket so feel free to go larger! Use a starting chain fo 122, 134, 158, 170, 182, 194, 206, etc.

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn (1-2 skeins of each depending on how big your blanket is – I’m using one skien of each)
Royal Blue
Cool Blue
Peacock Blue
White
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle

Crochet Chevron Pattern:
Chain 110 (or use your multiple of 12 + 2 for a longer chain)
2 SC in second chain from hook, SC in next 4, now you are going to make a 3 SC Decrease (SC three stitches together), *SC in next 4, 3 SC in next, SC in next 4, 3 SC Decrease, repeat from * until the end of the chain making 3 SC in the last stitch, chain 1, turn.
Row 2: 2 SC in second stitch, SC in next 4, 3 SC Decrease, SC in next 4, 3 SC in next, repeat until end, make 3 SC in last stitch, chain 1, turn
Repeat row 2 for as long as you’d like! I am make six rows of each color as I go. You can switch color anytime or do as I’m doing!
My plan is to add tassels to the ends of the chevron “v” for an extra touch!

UP, UP, and AWAY!! You’ll be flying high with this Hot Air Balloon Crochet Square! Make an entire blanket or you can use just the hot air balloon portion of the pattern as an appliqué. This is the summer crochet project we all needed! Would love to see what colors you choose for your hot air balloons!

Finished Size: 7.5 inches wide by 9 inches tall
Ok so this isn’t exactly a “square” but you can easily piece these together for a small or large afghan!

Materials:
Red Heart Super Saver (or any worsted weight yarn!)

With a ball of Bernat Pop! Yarn, you can make at least two Crochet Cluster V-Stitch Hats! I love this particular color called “POP ART” which has an adorable neon/spring rainbow colo way. No sense in buying multiple skeins of (red, orange, yellow, green, blue) yarn, all the colors you need are right here! I decided to deconstruct the ball before crocheting with it. This means that I separated the colors and crocheted with them as needed so I could get perfect rows of color.

I am using the cluster v-stitch for the main part of the hat. This is basically the same pattern as my Messy Bun Hats, except you won’t have a hole at the top and I changed the brim a bit. You can find my Messy Bun Hats HERE.

The cluster v-stitch works up super fast and you can make these hats in no time at all! This hat comes in 3 sizes: Large, Medium, and Small. The Large fits a teen/adult, the medium is for an older child, and the small is a younger child. You can easily adjust the hook size, tension, and even yarn thickness (if you choose a different yarn) to create different sizes if desired.

Hat sizes when laid flat: (not including pom)
Large: 10 inches wide x 9 inches tall
Medium: 8.75 inches wide x 8 inches tall
Small: 7.5 inches wide x 7 inches tall
Doll: 5 inches wide x 4 inches tall

I have made a video tutorial for you explaining the v-stitch and how to make all the increase rows of the medium size hat. I will also walk you through the ribbed edging.

Here’s a tutorial on how to crochet the loop stitch!

Stitch tulip Appliqués onto the front panel so they are “sticking out of the grass.” The loop stitch makes such a fun grass texture for the bottom of the pillow!

Place two pillow panel pieces on top of each other. Use yellow yarn to SC the panels together. You can stitch to green yarn to SC the sides where the “grass” is. Be sure to stuff with polyfil fiber stuffing before you completely close the panels!

Do you know someone who is expecting a Spring Baby? This Crochet Baby Romper is the perfect gift!! It works up using easy double crochet stitches. Plus there are many ways you can embellish and customize. I haven’t decided what appliqués I want to put on the front of these rompers but I will be sure to show you when I do! Maybe a sailboat for the blue one? A heart or daisy for the yellow and pink one? I’m making a couple because there might be a big baby boom in 9 months after this Coronavirus quarantine. You never know!

Sizing: I have created one size. And to be honest, I don’t have a baby to try it on but I am following basic baby onesie measurements. This pattern should fit a 6-9month old… BUT we all crochet a little differently. Use a larger hook to make pattern bigger (you can even increase the chains for the width and the number rows for the length). Use a smaller hook and thinner yarn to make a newborn size.

Materials:
Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in colors:
Light Blue
Baby Pink
Cornmeal
You can easily make two rompers from one skein!!

Pattern starts from the back diaper flap, then you will make the middle section in rounds, then the front bib portion, then the straps. Lastly you will re-connect to the front bottom to make the front of the diaper flap. I have a step-by-step photo tutorial below and will make a YouTube video as soon as I can.

Romper Pattern:
Chain 14, DC in third chain from hook and rest of the way down chain, chain 2, turn (12 DC)
Row 2: 2 DC in first, DC in next 10, 2 DC in last, chain 2, turn
Row 3: DC in each stitch across, chain 2, turn (14 DC)
Row 4: 2 DC in first, DC in next 12, 2 DC in last, chain 2, turn (16 DC)
Row 5: 2 DC in first, DC in next 14, 2 DC in last, chain 2, turn (18 DC)
Row 6: 2 DC in first, DC in next 16, 2 DC in last (20 DC), do not turn.
Chain 40, join back to beginning of row, chain 2.
Now we will work in rounds.
Round 7-16: DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (60 DC)
Fasten off after round 16.
Now lets make the front “bib” Count 35 stitches in, join yarn and chain 3 (this counts as your first DC) and make a DC in the next 19 stitches. Leave remaining stitches unworked, chain 2, turn
Row 2-7: DC in each stitch across, chain 2, turn (20 DC)
Do not fasten off after row 7 of bib.
Let’s start on the first strap.
Row 8/Strap 1: DC in the first 3 stitches, leave remaining stitches unworked. Chain 2, turn (3 DC)
Row 9-21: DC in each stitch, chain 2, turn (3 DC)
Fasten off. Join yarn on other end of bib.
Strap 2: DC in first 3 stitches, chain 2, turn
Make 13 more rows for the second strap so it matches the first strap.
Do not fasten off, chain 1, turn.
chain 2 and skip 2 DC on bottom edge of strap, join to corner of strap and continue to SC the edge of the straps and body of romper. When you get back to the top of the first flap, chain 2 and skip 2 stitches again. This creates the lops that your buttons will slide into.
Now let’s make the front of the bottom “diaper” area.
Front diaper flap: Count 12 stitches in from the back edge of back diaper flap. Join yarn to front and chain 3 (this counts as your first DC), make a DC in next 15 stitches, chain 2, turn (16 DC)
Row 2: DC Decrease, DC in next 12, DC Decrease, chain 2, turn (14 DC)
Row 3: DC Decrease, DC in next 10, DC Decrease, chain 2, (12 DC)
Do not fasten off, continue to SC around all edges.
When you get to the bottom edge of the back diaper flap, SC, chain 2, skip 2 stitches, SC in next two, chain 2, skip 2 stitches, SC in next two, chain 2 and join with SC to last part of edge. This creates 3 loops that the buttons will slide into.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Stitch 3 buttons to the front diaper flap.
Stitch 2 larger buttons onto back of romper.

If you make this romper and try it on your baby, please let me know the age of your baby how it fits!

UPDATE:
I ended up buying some super cute and coordinating iron-on patches from Amazon LIKE THESE. BUT I didn’t think ironing them onto the acrylic crochet romper was a good idea. So I used some Fireline thread (very strong thread usually used for beading) and a small sharp needle to hand stitch the patches onto the front of the rompers. It worked perfectly and the patches are VERY secure. Plus, you can’t see the stitches on the patches or on the backside of the romper. The thread is so thin that it disappears into the crochet stitches. I suggest getting a color of thread that coordinates with your iron-on patch if you decide to go this route!

I had to post the finished Koala Blanket! It is very similar to my Sloth Blanket. The koala appliqué was actually based on the sloth. I changed a few things on the head pattern to transform it from one animal to the other! The blanket is my Moss Stitch in a Square pattern which is such a simple and sweet pattern that can be made as small or large as you want. Plus the color combinations are endless!

I am using Red Heart With Love yarn for this project and it is an absolute dream to work with! Softer and smoother than Red Heart Super Saver but with the same thickness. I love the way it works up!

The blanket is made using my Moss Stitch In A Square pattern and combines both Red Heart Super Saver Yarn and Bernat Super Value Yarn. I love these two greens together! This is a really great way to make a custom themed blanket for a nursery or kids room. Any colors can be used and any motif could go in the middle.

Begin this blanket by making the Sloth Appliqué. You can find the pattern and supply list for the sloth HERE.

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Deep Sea Green and Clay (one skein each)
– Red Heart Super Saver in Frosty Green and White (one skein each)

20 rounds in white
4 rounds frosty green
7 rounds deep sea green
3 rounds white
2 rounds clay gray
3 rounds white
7 rounds deep sea green
4 rounds frosty green

4 rounds frosty green
7 rounds deep sea green

Make 4 pom-poms in clay gray for each corner!

If you carefully stitch your appliqué on and work your tapestry need through the middle of the moss stitches (and not all the way through the back of the blanket), you won’t see any mess on the backside! You could also stitch a second appliqué on the backside and make it completely reversible.

Heart projects are great to make all year round but especially around Valentine’s Day! I made a cute and whimsical heart granny square that can be used for so many different projects! Continue the granny square to make a big blanket or make multiple squares and stitch them together, or how about a pillow?! Tons of options! A beary cute blanket is coming your way today! I took the Teddy Bear Appliques I made last week and used them on an afghan made up of crochet squares. It’s full of color and cuteness! I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn in these bright bold colors that coordinate beautifully together. I am using the grit stitch for the squares and simple single crochet edging. I made 4 different faces (even one with a different color belly!) and decided to place the bears all in a row down the middle of the blanket. You could make a teddy bear for each square of make a few and stagger them around the blanket. Lots of options! I will leave it up to your creativity!

Now let’s talk about how to make the blanket….

You will need to make 3 squares of each color for a total of 12 squares. I chose to use the grit stitch because I like the texture and look of the finished square but you could absolutely just single crochet in rows to make these squares. The grit stitch is 2 SC, skip a stitch, 2 SC in next. So pretty easy! Video tutorial and written pattern is below!

9×9 Crochet Grit Square:
Chain 37, SC in second chain from hook, skip a chain, 2 SC in chain, skip a chain, *2 SC in next, skip a chain, repeat from * until you get to the last chain, make one SC in the last chain, chain 1, turn
Row 2: SC in first stitch, skip a stitch, *2 SC in next stitch, skip a stitch, repeat from * until you get to the last stitch, make one SC in the last stitch, chain 1, turn.
Repeat row 2 until you get to 36 or 37 rows. You might need a measuring tape to make sure your finished square is even on both sides (about 9×9)

Note: Sometimes your tension will be different and sometimes the yarn has a slightly different texture/thickness. Adjust number of rows in your square as needed. Some of my squares have 36 rows and some have 37.

Single crochet around the edge of each square with beige yarn. Be sure to make a SC + 2 chains + SC in each corner. Use the video tutorial below to help you overcome any fear or confusion about crocheting on rough edges!

Now lay the squares out in the color pattern you like. I decided to do diagonal rows of color. Feel free to do the same! Then take a long strand of beige yarn and use the mattress stitch to join the squares together. HERE is a tutorial I made a while ago on joining with the mattress stitch.

Now make a pretty border! Single Crochet 5 rounds (make a SC + chain 2 + SC in each of the 4 corners). One round of Beige, Coral, Saffron, Minty, and then Real Teal. Dark brown pom-poms on each corner!

Stitch on your appliqués. You could even stitch a set of teddy bear appliqués on the back to make the blanket completely reversible!

You must know by now that I love Owls! My Owl hat pattern is one of my most popular crochet patterns that I’ve ever posted and it gave me the idea to make a blanket! It’s almost like I turned the hat into blanket form! I do love the bold stripes and I think this blanket would be adorable without the applique eyes as well. So many things you could do with this design!

Repeat making 25 rows of each color and 8 rows of brown repeating. Make as big as you want or do what I did and use 5 stripes of colors and 4 stripes of brown.

Eyes pattern:
with black
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join in white yarn, chain 1 (10 SC)
With white
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Round 4: SC in each stitch around, join, fasten off leaving long tail (30 SC)
You can also make eyes all white and stitch on eyelash embellishments.

Beak:

I’ve been craving hamburgers and cheeseburgers! Probably because I’m back on Weight Watchers (see my weight loss journey HERE). I’m trying to shed a few pounds for the summer season. Fortunately these cuties are zero caloreis! Seems like I am being inspired this week by all the cute things! A few days ago I post THIS adorable Flamingo Applique that was inspired by my flamingo crochet hook. And today I whipped up a Crochet Avocado that was inspired by the tablecloth my friend Jen had out this morning!

The best part is that this avocado is pretty much true to size! It’s about 6×4 inches and fits in your hand just as a real ripe avocado would. I think I am going to use this one as an extra large keychain but you can do with it as you wish! I think it would make a fun pregnancy announcement because the baby is the size of an avocado when a woman is 16 weeks pregnant. It’s also just a fun amigurumi to have around if you are an avocado fan!

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in Lush Green, Soft Fern, and Taupe.

– Strand of Black yarn or embroidery thread.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– A pair of 9mm safety eyes (or similar size)

– Poly-fil Fiber Stuffing

Avocado Body:
Make one in Lush Green and on in Fern Green
Magic Ring, chain 2, make 12 DC inside magic ring, join to first DC, chain 2
Round 2: 2 DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (24 DC)
Round 3: 2 DC in first stitch, DC in next stitch, repeat around, join, chain 1 (36 DC)
Row 4: SC in first, HDC in next 6, SC in last chain 1, turn (leave remaining stitches in round unworked)
Row 5: SC decrease, HDC in next 4, SC decrease over last two, chain 1, turn
Row 6: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (6 SC)
Row 7: SC decrease, SC in next 2, SC decrease, chain 1, turn
Row 8: Make 2 SC decreases, continue to SC around edge of entire piece, join to first SC, fasten off the light green body piece and weave in ends.
Do not fasten off the darker green piece. Set aside for a moment.

Avocado Seed:
with brown yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 8 SC in ring, join to first SC, chain 1
Round 2: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 2
Round 3: HDC in first three stitches, SC in all remaining stitches making a SC + HDC in last, join to first HDC, fasten off leaving long tail.

On lighter green avocado body piece:
Attach safety eyes and stitch on a little smile with your black yarn.
Then stitch on your seed to the middle tummy area. Stuff lightly with poly-fil before completely sewing shut.

Place both body pieces together. SC the edges together with the green yarn. Stuff with poly-fil before completely stitching it shut. You don’t want to stuff it too full. Just enough to give it a nice form but not so much that the poly-fil is coming out between the stitches.

Now I have another fun announcement! I teamed up with my friends over at FaveCrafts in celebration of their 10 Year Anniversary and a Charity Drive with Warm Up America! I made a FaveCrafts Afghan that features beautiful teal and pink hues (just like their logo) crocheted into individual 7×9″ sections. The 7×9 rectangle sections is a required size for Warm Up America. They accept these individual sections as donations and volunteers seam them together for the homeless in need. Row 2: DC in each stitch across, fasten off weave in ends. (24 DC)
Repeat these two rows on the opposite end of the square.

Heart Applique:

With Peony Pink yarn
Magic Ring, chain 2 and make 14 DC in ring, join to first DC, chain 1
Round 2: HDC + DC in first, 3 TC in next, 2 DC in next, DC +HDC in next, 2 HDC in next, HDC + DC in next, 2 DC in next, DC + HDC in next, 2 HDC, HDC + DC, 2 DC, 3 TC, DC + HDC, slip stitch join to last stitch.
Join in Teal Heather yarn and slip stitch around the edges in the back loop only.

Fasten off and use loose ends to stitch heart applique to center of circle in your FaveCrafts Afghan Section.

With a long strand of soft fern green yarn and your tapestry needle, stitch yarn in and out around round 6 to create dashed lines.

Joining the sections:

Lay the crocheted sections out in the pattern of the finished blanket.
Use a long strand of white yarn and your tapestry needle to stitch together the sections using the invisible join. The invisible join is created by using the mattress stitch, but only working in the back loops of your edge stitches. You will want to connect them by first working along all the vertical seams and then all the horizontal seams.

Border:
with white yarn
Starting at any point along the blanket edge, join in white yarn in a back loop only. Chain 1 and make SC in the back loops along the edge of the entire blanket. When you get to the corners make a SC + chain 2 + SC all in one corner stitch.

Fasten off and weave in ends.

Once you have crocheted the pages, you will need to connect them all together. I have made a short video explaining what I did.

You will want to place all the pages in order and back to back. I single crocheted along the spine of two pages at a time, starting with 3 SC and then a chain 1 + skipping a stitch, then 3 more SC stitches, repeating all the way down the spine. This gives you 8 chain spaces to attach your pages together. I ended up hot gluing each back to back page together. You can stitch them together or leave as is! You can also use fabric glue if hot glue makes you uncomfortable. Once you have crocheted along the spine of all 5 pieces (remember your pages are back to back), you can use book rings to link them together. Alternatively you can use use yarn to tie them together. Get creative and let me know what you come up with!

Are you ready to say sayonara to the snow?! With freezing temperatures across the country and an unusual amount of snowfall, I know many of you are ready for warmer days! So lets let those snowplows clear the roads! Celebrate the season with this Crochet Snowplow Blanket! A basic blanket made up of simple single crochet stitches. I used Bernat Super Value in Aqua for the first 3/4 of the blanket and Bernat Pipsqueak in white yarn for the last portion. A simple gray border and a fun Snowplow applique complete this cute crochet project!

You could also use the snowplow applique for many other projects! It could also be easily converted into a fun truck applique. So many ways to use this pattern!

It seemed appropriate to this super sweet Heart Blanket during Valentine’s week! But I think the simple stripes and fuzzy heart make this blanket perfect for any time of year. Especially adorable for a baby gift or baby shower. So many color combo possibilities too! The main striped blanket is crocheted with Bernt Super Value yarn and the giant heart applique is made of the soft and fuzzy Bernat Pipsqueak yarn. I know pipsqueak yarn can be intimidating to work with so I used two strands while I was crocheting the heart: one strand of pipsqueak yarn in white and one strand of caron simply soft in white. This way you can see and count your stitches. Plus the fuzzy pipsqueak yarn covers up all traces of the caron simply soft in the finished piece!

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value in Baby Pink (2 skeins)
– Bernat Super Value in White (one skein)
– Bernat Pipsqueak in White (one skein)
– Caron Simply Soft in White (one skein – optional)

Do your kids have jeans with rips or holes in them? Or could the pants use some flare?! These simple little crochet hearts made from Bernat Pipsqueak Yarn are a cute way to make fashion fun! Hearts, stars, circles, and more! You could use any crochet shape to patch up the jeans. I thought these fuzzy pipsqueak hearts would be perfect for Zoe, especially since Valentine’s Day is only about a month away!

Materials:
– Bernat Pipsqueak Yarn in color Tickle Me Pink (100g). Shop at Yarnspirations.com.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Small/Sharp Tapestry Needle
– Embroidery floss or thin yarn
– Jeans or overalls with rips/tears. I got the ones pictured HERE on Amazon (aff) 

Crochet Heart Pattern:
Chain 7, SC in 2nd chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, ch 1, turn (6 SC)
Row 2-3: SC in each stitch, ch 1, turn (6 SC)
Row 4: SC in first 3 stitches, ch 1, turn (3 SC)
Row 5-7: SC in each stitch across, ch1, turn (3 SC)
When you get to the lats row,  continue to SC around the heart. When you get to bottom stitch (the one with the your slip knot) SC + Chain 1 + SC all in one stitch.
Then when you get to the top “v” indent, slip stitch (instead of SC). Join, fasten off and weave in ends (or leave a long tail you are using it as an appliqué).
Note: I didn’t SC around the inner part of the heart (the part with the “v” indent”). I found the heart kept it’s shape better this way when using the furry yarn.

Tiny Heart:
Chain 5, SC in 2nd chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, ch 1, turn (4 SC)
Row 2: SC in each stitch, ch 1, turn (4 SC)
Row 3: SC in first 2 stitches, ch 1, turn (2 SC)
Row 4: SC in each stitch across, fasten off (2 SC)

Here’s a quick little project for you to make in time for Valentine’s Day! Crochet Conversation Hearts can display a variety of messages on the top (whatever you want to stitch on!) and can be used so many ways! As you can see I made a headband for Zoe but these could be stand alone valentines, key chains, pencil toppers, appliqués, seasonal decor, or add them to a wreath. I basically used my Crochet Puffy Hearts pattern and show you how to add on the stitching in the video below.

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn. I used colors Lavendar, Baby Pink, Yellow, and Red for . Shop all colors HERE at Yarnspirations.com.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Poly-fil Fiber Stuffing
– Tapestry Needle
– Headband and glue gun

Puffy Hearts Pattern:
Make two in same color
Chain 7, SC in 2nd chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, ch 1, turn (6 SC)
Row 2-3: SC in each stitch, ch 1, turn (6 SC)
Row 4: SC in first 3 stitches, ch 1, turn (3 SC)
Row 5-7: SC in each stitch across, ch1, turn (3 SC)

When you get to the last row, continue to SC around entire heart. When you get to bottom stitch (the one with the your slip knot) SC + Chain 1 + SC all in one stitch. Then when you get to the top “v” indent, slip stitch (instead of SC). Join, fasten off and weave in ends.

Stitch on the lettering using 2-ply yarn (carefully split apart your 4-ply worsted weight yarn so it’s only two strands) and use tapestry needle to stitch on the letters. Video below may help! Bernat Super Value yarn works great for this.

Take 2 of the same color heart and place one on top of the other. Instead of SC the edges together (like I did in the original Puffy Hearts blog post, I decided to just stitch them together with a tapestry needle, working under the tops of the SC stitches around the edges. Stuff lightly with poly-fil before completely closing up. This just makes the hearts a little smaller (since I was gluing them to a headband) but you could do it either way!

Crochet around a headband (totally optional) but you can find the tutorial for that HERE,

I hot glued the hears to the headband but you could also sew them on with your tapestry needle or use them for a different project!

Finished Size: Approximately 7 inches tall by 5 inches wide

Snowman Body: Make 2
with white yarn
Magic Ring, chain 2, and make 10 DC in ring, join chain 2
Round 2: 2 DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (20 DC)
Round 3: 2 DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (40 DC)
now we are going to work in rows
Row 4: chain 1, SC, HDC in next, 2 DC in next 3, HDC, SC, chain 1, turn
Row 5: SC, HDC, 2 DC in next 6, HDC, SC, chain 1, turn
Row 6: SC HDC, DC in next 12, HDC, SC, do not turn
Continue by making a SC in the next stitch along bottom round of snowman, DC in each remaining stitch around the bottom of snowman, SC in last and join to the other side of the “head” of the snowman.

Snowman Carrot Nose:
With orange yarn
chain 3, Slip Stitch in second chain from hook, 2 SC in last. Fasten off leaving long tail.

Add safety eyes and stitch on nose to one of the body pieces. Stitch on a smile (optional!).

Slip stitch the two body pieces together.

Top Hat Pattern:
with black
chain 9, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn
Row 2: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (8 SC)
fasten off, re-attach yarn one stitch in,
Row 3: SC in 6 stitches, chain 1, turn
Row 4-5: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn
fasten off leaving long tail to sew onto snowman.
To make hat sturdier, make two and stitch together.

Earmuffs (make 2):
with blue yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, fasten off leaving tail
Stitch Earmuffs onto either side of head.
Using blue yarn, slip stitch along top of head from one earmuff to the other.

Scarf:
with red yarn
Chain 50, fasten off.
Make a knot at both ends of chain and cut yarn underneath knots to make a little bit of fringe. Tie scarf around neck of snowman!
