Here is a plain and simple pumpkin hat, perfect for fall or a halloween costume! I will begin with my own pattern but the bulk of the hat is a pattern I followed from Easy Makes Me Happy. The pattern comes in newborn to adult sizes!
I used Vanna’s Choice yarn in Fern and Terracotta colors.
For smaller sizes (0-6 months):
With green yarn…
Magic Ring, 6 SC in ring
Working in continuous rounds…
Round 2-4: SC around (6 SC)
Round 5: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next two, repeat around, join, chain 2 ( 8 SC)
Round 6: 2 HDC in each around, change color to orange, chain 2, and continue following the pattern for the Free Crochet Monkey Hat by Easy Makes Me Happy beginning with Round 2. (Leave off earflap, tails and monkey ears!)
Leaf Pattern is also by Easy Makes Me Happy
Pumpkin Coil: Chain 12, 2 SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down, fasten off and tie on by stem.
For larger sizes (12 months +)

Cute hat! I love pumpkins!
Very nice Sarah…how cute is this! It would be great for Halloween!
So cute. One of the ladies in my clogging group recently had a baby. This would be adorable on her.
Thank you for the oh so cute pattern!
So cute!
I love this hat!New crocheter here! 🙂 I'm going to attempt this.
Is there an alternative to the magic circle? Every time I attempt it, it seems to get all messed up!
you can chain four, slip stitch into the fourth chain from hook and then use that as your "magic ring"
what size hook are we using for the hat?
What is the big secret on the hook size ?
Did anyone figure it out yet ?
The link for the pattern is no longer working, she moved to a different site and it's hard to find the pattern. I found the new web address so you can add it to your posts! http://mamachee.com/2010/12/06/free-crochet-pattern-monkey-hat/
THANK YOU for the wonderful pattern!! I STINK at hats and was able to whip this up in no time for my niece! My go to hat pattern from now on!! YEAH!
I love this hat but am having trouble transitioning between patterns. I joined with orange and then chained 2, but I keep getting 35/36 stitches instead of 32 like the other pattern calls for. I’m obviously messing up when I’m joining and would so appreciate clearer direction on how to join/transition. Thank you!
Why not update your link in the post to point to the moved pattern. Not everyone will read the comments and assume you just have an old link.
The pattern looks easy, but with all the “Info links” ads and the missing link to a website called Free Crochet Monkey Hat, it is hard to follow the directions and complete the pattern. It would be much easier if the pattern was completely written out. I love your patterns, and have enjoyed making many of your hats, but this one is confusing.
I made this for my great-granddaughter, I love it, plus made the booties to go with It! Thanks.
