Here is Day 2 of my 26 Days of Crochet Animal Alphabet Appliques!
B is for Butterfly
This fluttery friend would be the perfect embellishment for hats, hair clips, purses and totes, wall decor, crib mobiles, and more! I can see this adorning a variety of crochet kids items and of course its representing the second letter of my Animal Alphabet Afghan!
Materials:
– Worsted weight yarn in any color! I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Raspberry and Chocolate.
– Size G Crochet Hook (the bigger the hook the bigger the appliqué and vice versa)
– Tapestry needle

SC = Single Crochet
Crochet Butterfly Applique Pattern:
Chain 8, SC in second chain from hook, chain 4, skip one stitch in foundation chain and join with a SC, SC in next two foundation chain stitches, chain 4, skip one stitch and join with a SC to last chain.
Now working on other side of chain, SC in first stitch, chain 6, skip one stitch in foundation chain and join with a SC to next stitch, SC in next two foundation chain stitches, chain 6, skip one stitch and join with a SC to last chain.
Round 2: SC to bring you over to the first chain loop, make 4 SC in chain loop, make 2 SC to bring you over to the next loop, make 4 SC in next chain loop, SC to bring you over to the loops on the other side, make 6 SC in first loop, make 2 SC to bring you over to the last loop, make 6 SC in loop.
Round 3: Slip Stitch to bring you to the stitches on first loop, make 2 SC in next 2 stitches, chain 2, SC in second chain (this makes the point on each wing), 2 SC in last two stitches on the first loop, Slip stitch in next two to bring you to the stitches on the next loop, make 2 SC in next 2 stitches, chain 2, SC in second chain, 2 SC in last two stitches on the first loop, Slip stitch to bring you to the next loop, 2 SC in first 3 stitches on loop, chain 2, SC in second chain, 2 SC in last 3 stitches on loop, Slip stitch in next two to bring you to the last loop, 2 SC in first 3 stitches on loop, chain 2, SC in second chain, 2 SC in last 3 stitches on loop. Slip stitch to join.
Fasten off leaving long tail to sew onto blanket.
With brown yarn surface crochet up the middle and when you get to the end make 3 chains. Fasten off and attach yarn to the top and make another 3 chains (these will be the antennae). Make sure to knot the ends so they don’t unravel!

How big does this work out as using the same yarn and hook size as suggested?
Luv yr patterns. U choose such beautiful colors for yr patterns. Yr creativity is fantastic. I was looking for a butterfly design for a bib & found it as well as a lot of yr appliques I will try on bibs, burp cloths. Tk u for sharing yr talent & patterns with the rest of us who cannot do that. Keep up the good work – u r truly blessed.
