November 17, 2014

The good people at Craftsy are graciously hosting a giveaway here at Repeat Crafter Me,  giving you access to one of their best classes: Crochet: Basics and Beyond! In this class you will learn everything you need to know to get you started crocheting. But whether you are a beginner or a novice crocheter you can benefit from this class! Step-by-step and thorough instructions will show you everything from the tools you need, how to hold the hook, how to make a chain, where to begin and end your rows, how to turn your work and MUCH more! Ever wonder exactly how to “fasten off and weave in ends?” No more guessing! This video tutorial will show you exactly how to do that and it will get you comfortable reading patterns. By the end of this class you will be able to crochet in rows and rounds…YES ROUNDS! No more confusion on how to begin crochet hats!

The class is divided into 8 video tutorials hosted by Kim Werker. She moves at a great pace but if you ever need to stop and rewind you are able to do that with ease. And of course you can come back to it at any time. Craftsy classes never expire! At the end of the lesson plan you will even learn how to make a charming granny square blanket.

I promise that you will leave this class with crochet confidence. And remember how I said it wasn’t only for beginners? Well, I just finished watching the tutorials and took away so much valuable information including one of the most clever crochet tips that is going to change the way I do things from now on! This trick is so simple yet so necessary: After you have made your starting chain, work your first row of stitches in to the spine bump on the bottom. This leaves the pretty “v” exposed and allows your bottom edge to look like the top of a chain! I have no idea why I didn’t think of this sooner. See, you learn something new every day!

Thank you Craftsy for letting me share this tip with my readers! For even more crochet tips, tricks, and techniques, go ahead and enter the giveaway HERE for your chance to win access to the class! The giveaway is open for one week starting today (11/17) and ending on 11/24 at 11:59 pm MT.

And by following the easy instructions on how to crochet in rows using double crochet stitches, I was able to whip up a couple crochet Holiday Hot Pads in no time at all! A wonderful handmade gift that any of your friends and family would love!

Reading these articles has helped me understand more about the subjects that interest me. For example, last week I read an article written by a professor at Columbia University on how he click this thought about how we should teach students about basic science concepts like gravity and electricity in school classrooms today because they are no longer needed as they once were used to understand the world around us.
