Crochet Christmas Ornament Hat Pattern

December 8, 2014

It’s not too late to whip up one of these quick and easy Crochet Christmas Ornament Hats! A simple project for beginners and a great last minute gift idea. This pattern that makes a nice set (I am thinking matching family photos, twins or multiples, and perfect for siblings). Crochet them in any color and feel free to add some embellishments! How about sparkles, sequins, or surface crochet a design? Lots of possibilities! This was inspired by my Dreidel Hat and pretty much uses the exact same pattern. I love how crochet allows me to turn one design into something else with just a couple tweaks!

Materials:
– Worsted weight yarn. I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Scarlet red, Fern green, and Silver Gray.
– Size H or I (5.5MM) crochet hook. I recommend an H hook but I couldn’t find mine so I ended up using an I hook for the ones pictured.
– Tapestry needle
– Poly Fill Fiber stuffing

Cute idea, but I don't know if I have enough courage have to wear this hat. With a little bit of change this kan also be a gorgeous teapot cozy. Anyway, thanks for designing and sharing the pattern.

    Dear greetings, Margaret

Adorable pattern. I used a size “J” hook. I made the child size pattern for my granddaughter that is 14 months. (Toddler pattern, way too small). I made the teen size pattern for my other granddaughter that is age 3. (the child pattern was way too small for her). They don’t have big heads either. I used silver satin rat tail (that you can crochet) to make the ornament hanger piece. I found the pattern instructions run very small.

Love this pattern!! But I’m confused about which side of the silver top to attach to the hat. Do you attach the magic circle side or the side you finished up with.

    Thank you,
    Charlotte

Love this pattern. Does the chain 2 count as one of the double crochets? Like would it be included in the 22 double crochets in round 2?

To answer some of the questions: the chain 2 never counts as a dc in her patterns unless she specifies otherwise. The magic circle side of the ornament piece is visible in her pictures. You sew the end side (the end of the last row completed) to the hat with a whip stitch. Try to follow the circular pattern of the middle of the second row of the hat.

Hi, this hat is adorable in the picture. But I am having a problem and can’t believe it’s just me! Don’t you need to decrease while making the hat itself? No matter what I do it doesn’t look like a Christmas ball. It looks more like a disc! My count is correct but it is not rounding out. Please help me I really want to make this for grandson who is due any day.
    Thank you!!
