Crochet Bumble Bee Keychain

January 8, 2015

Here is another “Bee Mine Valentine” bumble bee keychain idea. You saw the felt version yesterday and now I am showing you how to crochet one! I have other ideas for this little bee so stay tuned!

Materials
– Worsted weight yarn. I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Duckie (yellow), black, and white.
– Size F crochet hook.. G would work as well.
– Key ring (optional)
– Tapestry needle
– Small heart button (optional)
– Two small safety eyes

Abbreviations:
Magic Ring Tutorial
SC = Single Crochet
SC Decrease = Single Crochet Decrease

For the wings you will use my Easy Crochet Heart Pattern found HERE.

Bee Pattern:
beginning with yellow yarn
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 6 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (12 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (18 SC)
Round 4-8: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (18 SC)
change to black yarn
Round 9-10: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (18 SC)
change back to yellow yarn
At this point you will want to add the safety eyes and stitch on the mouth and button.
Round 11: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (18 SC)
Round 12: SC Decrease, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
change to black yarn
Round 13: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (12 SC)
Round 14: SC Decrease around.
Take your tapestry needle and sew the rest shut by weaving the tapestry needle under the front loops of your stitches one by one until it is closed and forms somewhat of a point.

Sew wings onto the back. If the tail you are weaving in is long enough, pull it through the very top and use it as the strand you attach your key ring to!

How big does this measure? Mine seems huge. I'm using a G hook, so maybe I'll try an F.
