Weeble Wobble Crochet Witch

I had a fun opportunity to do a little crafty exchange with the very talented Laura Kelly. She made me one of her famous doodle drawings (see it HERE) and I told her that I could crochet her anything she would like. Her request? A little bitty witch 🙂 Laura has a love for the Halloween holiday and magical witches. Elpheba from Wicked being one of her favorite characters and Minx from the book Little Witch is one of her childhood favorites. I told her I would see what I could come up with and I think I nailed it with this Weeble Wobble Crochet Witch! Since the bottom is weighted with poly-pellets, the doll actually sits up like a Weeble Wobble toy! It was actually this pattern that inspired my Girl and Boy Crochet Amigurumi Dolls (pattern here). I know I am posting this out of season, but it’s never to soon to get started on your Fall crafting!

Materials:

– Worsted Weight Yarn. I used Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in Dusty Green and Black

– Size G Crochet Hook

– Poly-Pellets

– Poly-Fil Fiber Stuffing

– Tapestry needle

– 6mm Safety Eyes

Abbreviations:

SC = Single Crochet

SC Decrease = Single Crochet Decrease

DC = Double Crochet

TC = Triple Crochet

Witch Pattern:

Head:
With green yarn
Magic ring, ch 1 and make 10 SC in ring, continue to crochet in rounds
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around (20 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next, repeat around (30 SC)
Round 4-8: SC in each stitch around (30 SC)
At this point add on safety eyes (4 stitches apart from each other) between rounds 5 and 6. Stitch on mouth (and eyelashes optional) as well. Weave in ends.
Round 9: SC Decrease, SC in next, repeat around (20 SC)
Round 10: SC in each stitch around (20 SC)
Start stuffing with poly-fil
Round 11: SC Decrease, SC around until top starts to close… SC Decrease until completely shut. Weave loose end through the middle of head and down through bottom. You will use this to sew the head to the body.

Body:
With green yarn

Magic ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, continue to crochet in rounds
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around (20 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next, repeat around (30 SC)
Round 4-7: SC in each stitch around (30 SC)
Change to black yarn
Round 8-13: SC in each stitch around (30 SC)
Be sure to stuff with poly pellets and fiberfill BEFORE closing! See picture directions HERE.
Round 14: SC Decrease, SC in next, repeat around (20 SC)
Round 15: SC in each stitch around (20 SC)
Round 16: SC decrease, SC in next, around until top starts to close… SC Decrease until completely shut.
Fasten off and weave in ends

Arms (make 2):

With green yarn

Magic ring, chain 1 and make 5 SC in ring, continue to SC in rounds
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around (10 SC)
Round 3-5: SC in each stitch around (10 SC)
Change to black yarn
Round 6-7: SC in each stitch around
Round 8: SC Decrease, SC in next 3, repeat around (8 SC)
Round 9: SC in each stitch around (8 SC)
Round 10: 2 SC in first, SC in next 2, repeat around,
Fasten off, stuff, sew shut and sew onto body.

Hat:

With black yarn
Magic ring, ch 1 and make 4 SC in ring, continue to SC in rounds
Round 2: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around (6 SC)
Round 3-4: SC in each stitch around (6 SC)
Round 5: 2 SC in first, SC in next 2, repeat around (8 SC)
Round 6: SC in each stitch around
Round 7: 2 SC in first, SC in next 3, repeat around (10 SC)
Round 8: SC in each stitch around (10 SC)
Round 9: 2 SC in first, SC in next 4, repeat around (12 SC), join, chain 3
Round 10: 2 TC in each stitch all the way around. Join to first TC, fasten off stuff lightly and sew on to head.

To make skirt on shirt:

Add black yarn around first row of shirt colored SC stitches on body. Chain 2 and make a DC around the same stitch. Make 2 DC around each stitch all the way around. Join to top of chain 2 and fasten off, weave in ends.
