Crochet Bikini Top

June 28, 2015

So I got this crazy idea to make something for myself.. something summery…like a bikini top! Except I must have temporarily forgot that I was a mom of 3 in my mid 30’s and I could never pull something like this off HAHA! But I thought I would post the tutorial anyway for those of you who feel comfortable showing a little skin. Now I will go back to making cute crochet hats for kids 🙂

Materials:
– Patons Grace Yarn (1-2 skeins)
– Size G Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle

Abbreviations:
SC = Single Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
DC = Double Crochet
V-Stitch = DC + chain 1 + DC all in same stitch

The cups of the bikini top were made by following THIS PATON GRACE BIKINI PATTERN. After I made the basic cup, I scalloped stitched around the edge as follows:

skip one stitch, 4 HDC in next, skip one, slip stitch to next, skip one, 4 HDC in next, repeating. When you get to the bottom edge, SC across bottom.

Now SC the two cups together. Start on the corner edge of one bikini, SC across, chain 4 (for the center space) and continue to SC along bottom edge of other cup, chain 2, turn and
Row 2: DC in each stitch across, now we will begin V stitches
Row 3: chain 3 + DC in same stitch (this counts as your first v-sitch, skip 2 stitches, V-Stitch (DC + chain 1 + DC all in same stitch), skip 2 stitches, V-Stitch, skip 2 stitches, repeat until end, chain 2, turn
Row 4: V-Stitch in spaces between the V-stitches in the previous row, chain 2, turn
Repeat row 4 as long/short as you would like
Finish with a scallop stitch along the edge. Make 4 HDC in v-stitch from previous row, slip stitch to space between v-stitch, repeat until end.

Chain 200 (or more if longer is needed). Weave chain in and out under row of DC stitches under bikini cups. This will be used to tie around body.

Make 2 Chains of 100 (or more if longer is needed). Weave each chain under the scallop stitch at the very top triangle of the the bikini cups. These will be used to tie around neck.

Have fun and be safe this Summer!

    You could always extend the V stitches and make it into a "tankini"

    This is so pretty. Can you give me a suggestion on how to make it a D cup? I read the pattern but I am not good with modifications like that.

      I would think you need to just continue on making more of the row repeats, as per the pattern…. but just keep going to make it larger and larger.

      I understand the need. I wear a DDD or a G cup so these would be sort of glorified pasties – NOT what I need in my mid-40s!! LOL

      Again, I think you just need to do more row repeats to increase the size. Also, I’d start with several more starting chains. If A is 15 and C is 20, I’m guessing you would want at least 23-25 for a D (but, if you are say, a 38 D or a larger band D, I’d go higher than that – up to 30 maybe).

    This is a gorgeous pattern, Sarah! Thank you! I think that if it makes you happy, you should wear this bikini top, whether your belly is flat, holding quintuplets, or somewhere in between. Thanks again!
