Crochet Frankenstein Candy Pouch

October 19, 2015

FrankPouch3

Halloween is sneaking up on us! My kids are so excited for all the festivities this year. We decorated the house and the costumes are made. Now they are looking forward to trick-or-treating! I thought I would make something special for my crew and these little Crochet Frankenstein Candy Pouches are fun and functional! Pictured with candy but you could fill them with non-candy items as well. I found some fun little Halloween trinkets at the party store that I will include in their bags. PLUS you don’t have to make a Frankenstein. There is no limit on the types of embellishments you can add to this pouch!

Materials:
-Worsted Weight Yarn in green, black, white, and gray. I use Lion Brand Vanna’s Choice in lime, black, white, and silver gray.
– Size G crochet hook
– Tapestry needle

Abbreviations:
SC = Single Crochet
SC Decrease = Single Crochet Decrease
DC = Double Crochet
Spike Stitch Tutorial

Pouch Pattern:
starting with green yarn
Chain 16, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down making 4 SC in last chain. Now working on other side of chain, SC in each stitch and make 4 SC in last chain. Continue to SC in rounds. (36 SC)
Rounds 2-19: SC in each stitch around. (36 SC)
Round 20: join black yarn, SC in first, spike stitch in next, repeat around, join, chain 1.
Round 21: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 2.
Round 22: DC in each stitch around, join chain 1.
Round 23: SC in each stitch around. Fasten off and weave in ends.

With long piece of black yarn, weave in and out of DC row. This will be your drawstring! You can double up the string as well (send 2 strands through)

Eyes:
with white yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 8 SC in ring,
Round 2: 2 SC in first, SC in next stitch, repeat around. (12 SC)
Fasten off leaving a long tail to sew eyes onto pouch.
Use black yarn and your tapestry needle to stitch on pupil.

Frankenstein Bolts (ears?):
with gray yarn
Chain 5, SC in second chain from hook and rest of the way down chain making 2 SC in last chain. Now working on other side of chain, SC in each stitch and make 2 SC in last chain. Continue to SC in rounds.
Round 2-3: SC in each stitch around (9 SC)
Round 4: SC Decrease, SC in next, repeat around. Fasten off and sew bolt shut then sew onto sides of pouch.

Don’t forget to stitch on a scar and a smile!

      Simmer rhubarb till tender with the requisite sugar, add (near) equal amounts raspberries and simmer just a bit more. Skip pie crust. Put straight in bowl and eat while laughing over blog posts you so much relate to, from the toddler in the mom-sewn dress (I SO did that!) to the goat at the top.
