Valentine Heart Crochet Owl

January 31, 2018

If you’ve been following my blog for awhile you know I can’t get enough of owl projects! Scroll through my blog, you will see plenty of owl crafts and owl crochet patterns… even fun owl cupcakes! This sweet crochet owl is perfect for Valentine’s Day because he has a little heart on his tummy. I used the soft and squishy Bernat Blanket yarn which makes this little guy extra plush and quick to work up.

Materials:
– Bernat Blanket Baby yarn in Seafoam and Pink. Plus a bit of white/neutral for the eyes. Shop all colors at Yarnspirations.com.
– Size J Crochet Hook
– Triangle button for nose (purchase at JOANNs) or a bit of orange yarn to stitch on the beak.
– Poly-fil Fiber Stuffing
– 9mm Safety Eyes
– Tapestry Needle

Feel free to follow heart graph or just follow the written pattern below (color changes are written out)

NOTE: I used the knit-look (waistcoat stitch) just in the heart area. Short video below:

Another Note: Wouldn’t this make a cute little crochet heart bowl instead of an owl if stopped after round 14?!

Body Pattern:
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1 (10 SC)
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Round 4: 2 SC in first, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1 (40 SC)
Round 5: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (40 SC)
Round 6: SC in first 19 in blue, SC in next stitch in pink (this is the bottom point of the heart), switch back to blue and crochet in the last 20 stitches, chain 1, turn (40 SC) NOTE: be sure to carry the pink yarn along as you crochet. You don’t want to fasten off and re-attached every time.
Round 7: SC in first 18 in blue, SC in next 3 in pink, SC in last 19 in blue, join, chain 1
Round 8: SC in first 17 in blue, SC in next 5 in pink, SC in last 18 in blue, join, chain 1
Round 9: SC in first 16 in blue, SC in next 7 in pink, SC in last 17 in blue, join, chain 1
Round 10: SC in first 15 in blue, SC in next 9 in pink, SC in last 16 in blue, join, chain 1
Round 11: SC in first 15 in blue, SC in next 4 in pink, SC in next in blue, SC in next 4 in pink, SC in last 16 in blue, join, chain 1
Round 12: SC in first 16 in blue, SC in next 2 in pink, SC in next 3 in blue, SC in next 2 in pink, SC in last 17 in blue, join, chain 1
Round 13-18:( Working with blue only – you can drop the pink at this point!) SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1.
Fasten off leaving long tail.

Wings: (make 2)
Starting with pink
Chain 6, SC in 2nd chain from hook, HDC in next, DC in next two, make 6 DC in last chain.
Now working on the other side of the chain, DC in next two, HDC in next, SC in last, join.
Round 2: join in blue yarn, 2 SC in first 3, 2 HDC in next, 2 DC in next 6, 2 HDC in next, 2 SC in last 4.

Eyes: (make 2)
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, fasten off and weave in ends leaving long tail.

Add safety eyes to crocheted eyes.

Sew eyes and wings onto body.
Stitch on nose or add button.
Stuff with poly-fil and sew up top of owl with tapestry needle

Ear Fringe:
Cut 4 strands of yarn about 12 inches long and fold over and pull halfway through each end of top of the owl. Pull steads through loop to create a knot and then trim. See picture below.

Happy February!

I made some owls last year for Valentines Day and added a small card on the wing that said ( “Owl” always love you). Went over well.

I made some owls last year and added a card on the wing that said “Owl always love you!”. It went over well for most. Took a few minutes for others to figure it out.
I will be trying this pattern soon.
    Thanks for all your ideas.

Paula…I am at the end of round 6 and thought the same thing. I think it’s a typo so i’m gonna just join & chain 1. Unfortunately i’ve come to find that the pattern writer does not get back to people with questions on here nor Facebook. She just posts. I’m glad i’m not the only one who caught that though, lol.

I also found what appears to be a wrong number of rows to complete the body. I did 18 rows total and did 6 rows once I completed the heart but it was hard to place the eyes like she had them following the pic. If u count the number of rows she has in the pic she actually did 7/rows. I chose to add the extra row because I loved how hers looked. Just an FYI.

Hi Sarah, is there a full video of how to crochet the heart graph in your valentine owl? I’m trying the pattern and I just can’t get the heart to look right. I have never attempted this before.
Thank you in advance for any help you can offer.

Wow! The pillow is so cute. Thanks for sharing that how you made it. Students always like to read reviews on https://essayreviewexpert.com/review/edubirdie/ website about edubirdie. I will make it for my young daughter. She always wanted to have a pillow that would be special to her and I think this is the one.

To write an outline means to create a plan. So it ma be very useful. The essay outline template will help thise students who are not sure how to write it.
