I finally finished my Caron Chunky Cakes Crochet Cluster V-Stitch Blanket! You’ve probably been seeing my progress over Instagram and now I’m ready to share the pattern! This blanket features one of my favorite new yarns: Caron Chunky Cakes. This yarn is currently available in Michaels Craft Stores and is the newest member of the caron cakes line. It’s 100% acrylic and super bulky (6) weight. Each ball is self-striping and it comes in 16 colors! Shop the yarn HERE at Michaels.com.
I used the Cluster V-Stitch for this blanket but decided to alternate the Caron Chunky Cakes with rows of Bernat Softee Chunky in white. I love the affect it has on the pattern! Black or gray yarn for the in-between rows would also be gorgeous!
How to make the Cluster V-Stitch:
Yarn over hook, insert hook through stitch, yarn over the hook and pull through two loops. You still have two loops remaining on the hook. Yarn over hook and insert it through the same stitch. Yarn over the hook and pull through two loops and then yarn over again and pull it through 3 loops remaining on hook. (This is the first half of your cluster stitch) Chain 1. Yarn over hook, insert hook through same stitch, yarn over the hook and pull through two loops. You still have two loops remaining on the hook. Yarn over hook and insert it through the same stitch. Yarn over the hook and pull through two loops and then yarn over again and pull it through 3 loops remaining on hook.

Cluster V-Stitch Blanket Pattern:
Starting with Bernat Softee Chunky in white
Chain 113 (93 for smaller and 133, 153, or 173 for larger.)
Row 1: Cluster V-stitch in 4th chain from hook, *skip 2 chains, Cluster V-stitch in next chain, repeating from * the rest of the way down chain, DC in the last Chain,
Join in Caron Chunky Cake Chain 3, turn. (clip off white, yes you will have ends to weave in!)
Row 2: Cluster V-stitch in each of the Cluster V-stitches from previous row, DC in last chain of your chain 3,
Join in white yarn, Chain 3, turn. (clip off Caron Chunky Cake)
Row 3: Same as Row 2 with white yarn

I did fasten off my yarn at the end of each row and wove all my ends in when I was finished.

These patterns are so beautiful! My only recommendation would be to please slow down your crochet on the video. I am a beginner at this and you are going too fast for me to get a good visual of how it’s done. The written instructions are okay but I do better with the visual.
Thank you!

Ditto! If I could put the videos on slow speed would be helpful….also audio!

Hey just so you know, you can actually change the playback speed on YouTube videos. This means you can slow them down to the speed that works best for you. Just click on the settings “gear” icon and select playback speed. The lower the number, the slower it is.
Just thought I would share as it makes it easier to see how things are done.

I love This! Thank you for the pattern. I’m going to make 2 blankets with different Caron colors. Can’t wait to see how they turn out. I want to use all of Caron’s colors!
Would the chain 93 be an appropriate size for a baby blanket?

Please slow your video down! I’ve followed the written instructions and I’m almost positive the stitch in the video doesn’t match what’s in the written instructions. Where it says yarn over and pull through 2 loops it’s almost impossible and in the video it doesn’t look like it’s pulling through two loops. It looks like it’s only pulling through one but I can’t tell because it’s so fast. I’m trying to figure out why I’m hoping having such a hard time with this stitch. And I’m not a beginner either? Cute color combo tho thanks for the pattern.

There is one chain stitch between the two dbl togethes in the same chain
Liz says
It doesn’t. I was really confused too. She missed one yarn over when explaining the cluster v-stitch. It should be:
Yarn over hook, insert hook through stitch, yarn over the hook *and pull through the stitch, yarn over* and pull through two loops… etc.

What is the Multiples of this pattern? I plan on using a weight 4 yarn with a I/5.5 mm hook so of course gauge is different. Thank you for sharing your talent with us.

Love it! I haven’t tried the chunky cake rolls yet but am intriqued. My next project!!! Thanks for the photos!

Yes, I second the request for showing how to start this stitch from the beginning. I’m having a very hard time getting this right. I’m a beginner and I need baby steps. Haha!

On the pretty Cluster V-Stitch Blanket – both yarns are #6 super bulky – size L hook recommended – yet you’re using a size J hook, do you crochet loosely? Just wondering so when
I attempt to make this blanket I’ll know whether or not I should use L hook so that it turns out the same size yours did using a J hook – thank you for helping.
