Around the world, people are posting rainbows in their windows as a sign of hope. Hope for better days ahead. Hope that the Coronavirus pandemic will soon be over. Rainbows also represent a sign of support for hardworking health care professionals and give children something to hunt for during daily walks. We can use our crochet creativity to spread kindness during these tough quarantined days.

I made a crochet rainbow using very loose DC stitches that can be used in windows or to yarn bomb an area near your house. I stitched this rainbow to the fence that separates our house from the neighborhood park.
Even though the park playground is closed, my community is still able to see the rainbow during walks. My hope is that it brings a bit of light and love and brightness during these unprecedented circumstances.
Let’s keep doing our part to flatten the curve by staying home, social distancing, and staying at least 6 feet apart. “The world came together as the people stayed apart.”

Stay well crochet friends! There’s a rainbow just ahead!

Hi,
I’m confused about how row two is worded. Should it day 2 DC in next 8?
Chain 42, DC in 3rd chain from hook and the rest of the chains, chain 2, turn
Row 2: DC in first 16, DC in next 8, DC in last 16, chain 2, turn
Row 3: DC in each stitch across, chain 2, turn
Thank you for the pattern and your help!
wow , very nice ^_^
By row 4, I am a stitch off. I’ve counted and recounted and double checked. I always wind up with 16 DC left in the row. Not 15. Where am I going wrong?
So, I zoomed in and counted your stitches. You skipped a stitch in row 3.
I see it now too. Great so I ripped out all my work for nothing. For some reason it did start rippling badly at row 9 so I thought that extra stitch I had was one too many, but I guess not. Now I don’t know what to do to fix the ripple. The yarn I used for rows 3-6 is bit thinner though so maybe that has something to do with it.
Mine ripples too. Wetting it and flattening it out helps. I’m still trying to figure out how to hang it on my window. Maybe starch.
very good , so nice , thanks for this
Love your rainbow window idea. I posted it into a FB post with your name in your image, so I could show neighbors where I got my SIMPLE paper idea. I don’t have yarn on hand and this isn’t the time to go out and resupply. But I have plenty of card stock. This is a wonderful gesture. Thank you, ~Blythe
Hi Sarah,
Thank you! I wrote to you somewhere and told you that I am using your rainbow applique pattern to make cards. Our local hospital requested handmade get well cards for the coronavirus patients, and I am using your pattern to attach the rainbows to the front of the cards. I love this pattern! I am definitely going to make it! Thank you!
Stay well.

Hi I’m loving this. I can’t wait to finish mine and put it up. I do have a question on my stitch count on row 7 I have 20 stitches left instead of 16 I’m not sure where I went wrong. Every row the stitch count was fine till row 7. Any advise or help from anyone who has completed the rainbow. Thank you

Good Morning
I love this pattern. I’m confused with row 12, 2DC then 1DC in next. Does that mean 3DC in the same stitch.
Thank You
Jean
It means 2dc in the first stitch (aka increase) then 1dc in the second, then repeat.
Thanks for publishing this article
I love this idea. Hope everyone will stay safe. And I’m thinking about making a neck pillow as well from this pretty rainbow.
I’m confused about how row two is worded

Thank you so much for this lovely pattern Sarah. I added tassles to the bottom of mine. I posted it off to my niece who lives 12 hours away from her family. She has a 4 year old and an 8 month old, so I thought it may help to brighten their days. ❤️
its very interesting ^.^
thank you sirrrr
how can you do this? best thing
do you use g-ads on your site?
Could you tell us how many stitches you end up eith on each row?
Thanks!
Great thing keep going
I am also having problems, first and second row, no problem, then joining in blue and adding on more stitches in chain 16, 8, 16 again very confusing.
I have had to unravel and start again in some parts, as I seem to have to many stitches and my work was puckering halfway through.
I have steam blocked what I have done, and am at the stage of joining in green after the chain two turn.
I am also in the U.K so have to adapt to S/C instead of D/C.
I am getting there, and I do have Vascular dementia, so not doing to badly. The concept of rainbows are a good idea. I have done another small one in the round and folded and sowed it in half, that worked.
Hi, Sarah. Thank you for this pattern. I did another ‘rainbow’ in red, white & blue, attached both and stuffed it. It is now proudly floating in my front yard. Wish I could share the pictures.
