Loop Yarn Letter Blanket

March 26, 2020

After making the Bernat Alize Blanket-EZ Sheep Wreath, Zoe remembered how much she loves loop yarn! She had her mind set out to make a blanket so we started working on one together. She did the straight rows of pink and I made the middle part where the “Z” is.

If you aren’t familiar with loop yarn, I am using Bernat Alize Blanket-EZ and it’s made up of loops which allows you to create a blanket without using a crochet hook or knitting needles! Yarnspirations has a few beginner tutorials using this yarn RIGHT HERE on their website!

Shop Bernat Alize Blanket-EZ loop yarn HERE and find out all the details behind his kid-friendly, easy to use yarn!

So the big question is how did I make the “Z?”

I used a graph and the yarn just as I would if I was crocheting a graphgan. The only problem is that you can’t carry your yarn. So at the parts where I had to change color, I had to start a new strand. Although, you can carry your yarn up to the next row, so the purple yarn is connected up to the next row when I needed to use it. I just couldn’t carry it across through the pink. Hopefully that makes some kind of sense? So basically you will have spaces where your pink and purple yarn don’t attach.

Here are two graphs. One has the Z and the other is blank so you can print it out and color in your own letter.

The blanket is 45 loop stitches across and 40 loop stitches tall. Start with a row of 45 loop stitches and work up from there! Each box in the graph is equal to one loop stitch.

Here is a short video on how I am changing colors. Hope this helps!

You can leave your loop yarn blanket as is or you can create a border. To make the border, continue first with the pink loop yarn around the edges. One loop for every loop on the side. You stick two loops at a time through the corners.

Then you can add in a another color (like purple) to continue the border.

You will need to close the loops to finish. One loop goes into another to secure the edge loops.

I barely had a chance to snap these photos before she put this blanket on her bed to sleep with!

I hope you give loop yarn a try! It would be a great project to do with your kids while we all shelter in place. Stay safe and healthy everyone!

What a great project to keep little hands busy! I’m loving the monogram look to it. I’ll have to pass this along to my sister who has little people stuck at home with nothing to do!

BTW your little girl is getting so big and gorgeous! 🙂

    Thanks for sharing!

Hey Sarah, a very nice blanket for Zoe! Have you tried anything from Alize’s puffy yarn collection? I’ve seen lots of colors here: http://www.vilrita.com But the question is what is the difference between this and Alize Puffy?

    Warm Regards,
    Melanie

I love this blanket! I may have overlooked it but how many skeins did it take for you to complete the entire blanket? Im thinking i may make this as a baby shower gift.
Thanks so much for the inspiration!
