I got a new comfy chair for my yarn studio today! I had been sitting on a stool that was hurting my back after hours of crocheting and blogging. So I opted for something a little bigger with a a nice cushion and depth to it so I could really sink in and relax while I stitch. I was nervous that the legs were going to scratch the floor so I quickly crocheted these adorable cat paw chair socks! They slip right over the ends of the chair legs and look like little paws. Such a perfect fit for my yarn room!
Materials:
-Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Light Gray or Dusty Gray and White.
You will also need a small strand of black yarn
Shop yarn HERE on Yarnspirations.com
– Size G Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
Here is a video on how to make the paw from start to finish!
Cat Paw Chair Sock Pattern:
starting with white
magic ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join to first SC, chain 1
Round 2: SC in first stitch, puff stitch in next + chain 2, slip stitch in next, puff stitch in next + chain 2, slip stitch in next, puff stitch in next + chain 2, slip stitch in next, SC in last 3 stitches, join, chain 1
Round 3: SC in each stitch around for a total of 10 stitches, join in gray yarn, chain 1 (if this is confusing see video!)
Round 4: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (10 SC)
Round 5: 2 SC in first, SC in next 4, 2 SC in next, SC in last 4, join, chain 1 (12 SC)
Round 6-7: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (12 SC)
Round 8: 2 SC in first, SC in next 5, 2 SC in next, SC in last 5, join, chain 1 (14 SC)
Round 9-11: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (14 SC)
Fasten off after round 11 and weave in ends.
Take strand of 4ply black yarn and separate into two (this is optional), use tapestry needle to stitch yarn between puff stitch toes for the appearance of claws.
Make 4 Cat Paw Chair Socks for each leg of your chair!
HERE is the chair I bought! It is made to be a dining chair but I love the modern look, white leather, and wide cushioned seat. Its the perfect height for me to sit at my ikea desk. Plus, the design works well as a photography prop for staging finished crochet pieces like blankets or pillows! Remember, I am upgrading from a small stool LOL!

These are adorable! Can I ask where you got the chair? I’m searching for a new one myself and this looks perfect.
Dorabella Santos says
Aren’t those adorable? 🙂
Thanks for sharing the pattern!

Sure wish I could see your hands. Been many years since I crocheted.

Holaaa!! En la traducción pone puntada de hojaldre y luego una abreviatura S C no entiendo por favor lo puede explicar. Gracias

As i said on Facebook these would be so cute for walkers instead of those ugly tennis balls. You can even put some skid pads on the bottom of the toes and the foot so they dont slip. But it would jazz up and walker and be fun at the same time. Seriously who doesnt need fun and a conversation piece when strolling around.
Mary says
What a great idea! Thanks.
Alice says
Just reading the instructions and watching the video. You do not explain very well how to do the “puff” stitches. Could you possible add that into the instructions for us goofy ones who can’t keep up on the video.
Thanks
Kayla says
I do wish the pattern included an explanation for making the puffs, but I thought the video did pretty well with explaining them. Have you ever made bobbles? It’s the same as bobbles except you do one less loop.
Jill says
I still need instructions for making puff stitches too. And I’ve never made a bobble stick either. Could you write it out for just one puff. I watched several times, but it goes too fast and I can’t tell how many stitches are being made.
Zsofia says
You can just search another video or slow this video down…

I can’t see what your doing in your video for chair cat paw. You’re over to the right too much!!!!!!
Suzanne says
Sure wish I could see your hands. Been many years since I crocheted.
Altan says
According to the video, the puff stitches should be like this:
yarn over, insert hook into st, yarn over again, pull through. st, yarn over again, pull through 2 loops. repeat until you have 5 loops on your hook. yarn over and pull through all 5 loops.

Thank you for this tutorial, I made a small one out of scraps and it turned out great! CAnt wait to do them in chunky yarn for an armchair.
Mary H. says
Thank you so much. These are so darned cute. Great instructions. You are a great instructor and a nice pleasant soft and easy going voice. Thanks again. Love them. Have a Siamese cat with white paws and will make them for a couple of stools. And for my daughter’s chairs.
Carol Sabet says
I always love what you share. Thanks. And I usually buy the recommended yarn. I just bought the Red Heart Super Saver (pumpkin) to make your adorable Halloween bag.
So I am a dog person and will be looking forward to your dog paw chair socks. (hint hint) 🙂

What’s the difference between paws, exactly? Besides maybe the colour?

what is the difference between the two?
Kayla says
Hi! I’m currently making these for a set of dining chairs, and they are the cutest thing! Someone posted the link to Facebook, and a bunch of my Facebook friends fell in love. For my person use, I have a question though. I was wondering what you would think if, instead of having three puffs for the toes, I substituted two of the last three in the second round? Do you think that would work?
Thank you for sharing the pattern with us. I love this site.
Deborah Grimaldi says
Sorry but the only thing I sow during the entire video was your arm
Shawna Katz says
Love this idea!
I’m a stickler for details, and only having 3 toes on the foot just feels wrong. lol
I’m going to use your pattern as a starting point to make a 4-toed version. 😉
Thanks for the inspiration!
Jane says
Hi Shawna, just wondering if you ended up making the 4-toed version and how did it turn out. Would you be able to share your pattern? Thank you!
Kristine says
These are absolutely brilliant! Any suggestions on how to make them a bit wider for those chair legs that are fatter?
Linda Hopkins says
I saw your kitty socks on my daughters facebook page
“Amy Lunde” and was wondering if you would make me some for the legs of my dining room table I would need 16 of them, so could send me a price, don’t need them till Sept. When my SS check comes? I don’t know the first thing about crocheting
Plus having Multiple Sclerosis does help, wouldn’t be able to hold those needles, they slip right out of my fingers.
So let me know if your interested?

Thank you so much for the pattern for these chair socks, they are absolutely fabulous and I know just the right person to make them for. As a Christmas gift! I can imagine her smile right now! Thank you so much for sharing!

A bit to fast, need to slow down and show where your going into the stiches closer up so we can see where you are putting them, otherwise adorable and you do a great job of instructing. Thank you for the pattern. It is a good beginning.
Kathy M says
I watched the cat paw video twice but you go so fast that I can’t follow the stitches. It would help a lot if you could slow down the video.
Kristine says
These are so cute. Thank you for sharing the pattern. I can’t wait to make them for my friend.
Laura says
I really resent that there is no way to send this instructions by email so I can print them to see them while working. You force me to see it on my phone which sucks: it is too little, very uncomfortable and not what J was looking forward.
Yet, thank you fir the free instructions although difficult to use.
Alessandra Suzuki Mariano says
Amazing tutorial, loved it!
Colleen Griffin says
Would these fit a leg 3 inches around? If not how would I make them larger? Thanks, from a novice
GirlWithANeedle says
Great idea. Can’t wait to try it out. For everyone complaining about speed, use the settings to alter the playback speed. That’s what it’s there for. The instructions are also on this page in TEXT below the video. Sheesh…

Suzanne Wright says
These are so cute! My sister asked me to make some for her chairs. If I wanted to make them a bit bigger to suit a square shaped leg, how many stitches would I need? (I’m a fairly new crafter, so your help would be much appreciated to help me figure this out!).
Gayle Wilson says
What a cute, quick project! A perfect gift for yourself or your pet loving friends! Thank you for sharing the excellent video and instructions!

so cute and simple! Need to modify for the slightly thinner legs on my chairs, but definitely think it’s great how you designed the puff stitch paws!
Lynn Joubert says
I can’t see what you are doing because your hands and work are almost out of camera range.
Lynn Joubert says
Your teaching video is essentially useless. You are so far out view we can’t see what you are doing. I need to see how the 10 sc are done after the puff stitches.
Lynn Joubert says
Please review your video because I would really like to finish this cute project. Thanks
Sarah says
I don’t crochet but need these in my life, can I purchase a set from you?!

I need the cat paws chair covers in a printed pattern . The way you put the “puff stich don’t make sense to me. I want to have a pattern I can print off my phone/ printer rather than try to hand copy it. Thank you
Renae Brooks says
I think these are adorable but am curious as to how well they have held up over time?
Glenda says
Actually I think you only need one per chair leg. Lol…
Denise Justice says
The written instructions say to attach gray yarn at end of round 3 but in the video she attaches gray at end of round 4. Am I seeing it wrong?
Lynda Emmert says
U couldn’t see your hand or the stitches in the video
Robin Nakamura says
They look so cute on the chairs. Tried watching the video but all I could see were your wrists. I’ve been crocheting for years but my great grandma, grandma, and mom never tought me to read the patterns. I’ve made up my own stich style or I can follow by watching some one until I get it down pat.
