I’ve got a new yarn and a new project for you today! Caron Jumbo Ombre yarn just hit the shelves (and online stores) last week! It’s a gorgeous self-striping yarn that comes in an extra big ball! The granny stitch is one of my favorites and as I started to work up a square, it transformed into a super cute GRANNY JACKET! 3 large granny squares and 4 smaller granny squares joined together to make a hooded jacket. Almost unbelievable! Let me show you how it’s done!
First you will want to download the FREE pattern RIGHT HERE on Yarnspirations.com.
And don’t forget your supplies! Choose between 3 gorgeous colorways of Caron Jumbo Ombre Yarn. I am using color “White Water” but it also comes in “Carrera Marble” and “Salmon.” Shop the shades RIGHT HERE.
You will start by crocheting all the separate square. Let the yarn do the work for you! See the pretty transitions as the color stripes? Love the ombre look!
Once you get your squares made, let me show you how to connect them with the video tutorial below.
Creating arms is easy! You will leave a space open where you can crochet in rounds along the edges of two granny squares. I go over everything for you in the video above!
Add length to the bottom with more rows using the granny stitch!
This little jack is perfect for Summer nights, cool Fall days! I made a kids size BUT the nice about the granny squares is that you can keep going using the same pattern. Make this jacket as big as you’d like!

Hi, Sarah:
I’m crazy about this jacket; the best part is that it seems to be easy enough for a beginner project. I have no kids, though, and so would love to make this as a bed jacket for me. I’m 5’3” and 115 lbs, and normally wear a “small,” and I notice there’s no mention in the PDF of the dimensions of the squares. I’m thinking I’ll make larger squares and add a third row of them at the bottom, and I oughta get close to something that’d fit me. Before I splash out for the yarn, though (I’m a disabled vet and so living waaay below the poverty level), I’d like to ask for just a little bit of info.
If you’d tell me the dimensions of the squares used in the PDF, I think a calculator and I would be able to come close to getting enough yarn for this project for a small adult. I’d be grateful for the info, as I’ve picked out the yarn I’d like to use, and with those dimensions, I’ll know how much more yarn to get to make a small adult size.
Your work is truly amazing, and your generosity in sharing your patterns blows me away! I think you’re the poo. Thanks very much for everything you do!
Binky

Hi Blinky….
I love this granny jacket as well and want one for myself. You and I are similar height and weight. Were you ever able to work out the pattern for an adult size small? If so, I would you mind sharing?
Thanks,
Sandi

Love the look of this sweater but that hood looks like a safety hazard for a small child.
