Crochet Nutcracker Hat

A Nutcracker Hat and it’s been on my to-do list for many many years. I was finally able to crochet a simple and cute design and give you multiple sizes! Add more (or less) embellishments if you’d like. As always, my patterns are here to give you ideas and guidance. I love seeing where your creativity takes you!

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver yarn in Aran, Oatmeal, Black, White, Cherry Red, Saffron, and Pink. Shop colors HERE on Yarnspirations.com
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Two 1/2 inch black buttons
– Pet brush or similar
– Tapestry Needle

Size: 0-3 Months:
Starting with black yarn
Magic ring, 11 DC in magic ring, join to first DC, chain 2
Round 2: 2 DC in each around, join, chain 2 (22 DC)
Round 3: 2 DC in first, DC in next, repeat around, join, chain 2 (33 DC)
Round 4: 2 DC in first, DC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 2 (44 DC)
Round 5-6: DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2
Round 7-11: with cream yarn, DC in each around, join, chain 2 (44 DC)
Round 12: with red yarn, DC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
SC around the bottom edge for a finished look

Size: 3-6 Months
with black yarn
Magic ring, 11 DC in magic ring, join to first DC, chain 2
Round 2: 2 DC in each around, join, chain 2 (22 DC)
Round 3: 2 DC in first, DC in next, repeat around, join, chain 2 (33 DC)
Round 4: 2 DC in first, DC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 2 (44 DC)

Round 8-12: with cream yarn, DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2 (48 DC)
Round 13: with red yarn, DC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (48 DC)
SC around the bottom edge for a finished look

Size: 6-9 Months:
with black yarn

Size: 9-12 Months (Should fit up to about 16 months)

Cheeks (make 2):
with pink yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join to first SC, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, fasten off

Nose:

with darker cream yarn
Chain 11, SC in the second chain from hook and next 5, HDC in next two, DC in last two, fasten off leaving long tail

Mustache:
with black yarn
Chain 13, Slip stitch in second chain from hook, SC in next, HDC, DC + HDC all in next stitch, SC, slip stitch, SC, HDC + DC, HDC, SC, slip stitch. Fasten off leaving long tail

Hair Fringe:
Loop strands of white yarn along either side of hat. Trim and brush to fluff up. Loop 3 strands of white yarn under the mustache for the beard!

    Thank you! I have been using your patterns for years to make holiday hats for Iowa NICUs. I always recommend them when our volunteers ask for pattern suggestions. It is relatively easy to reduce the size by using a smaller hook size or a lighter weight yarn. I appreciate you so much! The families love the cute hats.

    I love this pattern. This has been a hard year for many families. These hats are ‘feel good’ things to make for people. Add some fun to our lives again. Thanks for not charging for them, too. I realize people want to make some money for their talents.
