
A cactus that is plush and not prickly! This is what happens when you crochet a cacti using Bernat Blanket yarn! Measuring about 22 inches tall and 18 inches wide, this cactus is big and squishy and super soft! You can crochet it with or without the terra-cotta pot. You won’t find a cuter cactus!

Materials:
– Bernat Blanket Yarn in Malachite Green (or any other green) (one ball makes one cactus!), Leather Rust Orange, and Brown for pot and dirt)

– Light Green worsted weight yarn if you want to add the prickles
– Poly-fil Fiber Stuffing
– Size K Crochet Hook
– Large Tapestry Needle

Crochet Cactus with Bernat Blanket Yarn
Arms (make 2):
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 12 SC in ring, join to first SC, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (18 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1 (24 SC)
Round 4-12: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (24 SC)
Round 13: SC Decrease, SC in next two, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 14: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (18 SC)
Round 15: SC Decrease two times, SC in remaining 14 stitches, join, chain 1
Round 16: SC Decrease two times, SC in remaining 12 stitches, join, chain 1
Round 17: SC Decrease two times, SC in remaining, 10 stitches, join, chain 1
Round 18: SC in each stitch around, fasten off leaving long tail.
Main Cactus Body:
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 12 SC in ring, join to first SC, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next two, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 4: 2 SC in first, SC in next three, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 5: 2 SC in first, SC in next 4, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 6-22: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 23: SC Decrease, SC in next 4, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 24-30: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Fasten off after round 30. Leave long tail.
Terracotta Pot:
with orange yarn
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Round 4: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Round 5: in front loops only, SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1(30 SC)
Round 6: now working in both loops, 2 SC in first, SC in next two, repeat around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Round 7-8: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (40 SC)
Round 9: 2 SC in first, SC in next 3, repeat around, join, chain 1 (50 SC)
Round 10-16: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
tip: cut a circle out of a sturdy paper plate to make the bottom flat and secure

Fasten off after round 16 or add a few more rows to make pot taller if desired. Leave long tail and fold over top brim of pot. Stitch brim down.

Add the “Dirt”
with brown yarn
Attach yarn on the second round from top of the inside of the pot.
Round 1: SC around each stitch, join, chain 1 (40 SC)
Round 2: SC Decrease, SC in next 3, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 3: SC Decrease, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 4: SC Decrease, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
stuff before completely closing
Round 5: SC Decrease until closed.


Stuff the main body of the cactus onto the top of dirt pot.
Stitch both cactus arms on last. You will need to stitch most of the arm (about ¾ of the way up arm) to attach to the main body so they don’t flop down.


Loop strands of worsted weight yarn in a lighter green color all over cactus to make the “prickles”
