Crochet Knit-Look Heart Hat

Remember the crochet snow-speckled hat I made last month? Well I thought I would move those cute little snow-specks a bit closer together and create a heart! Pretty much the same pattern with just an adjustment on where you make the color changes. I also decided I think I like the SC stitches on the brim better than the HDC stitches. It gives it a better elasticity. This is a one-size-fits-most pattern and am putting the entire pattern in this post so you don’t have to toggle back to the snow-speckled hat pattern.

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in medium purple, orchid (for brim) and white for heart

– Faux Fur pom-pom (optional) I got them HERE on Amazon
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle

NOTE: The pattern works from the bottom up. You will begin with the ribbed brim and then crochet directly onto the brim in rounds.

Heart Hat Pattern:
One-Size-Fits-Most

Starting with Ribbing (Brim of Hat)
With light purple (orchid) yarn
Chain 9, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn (8 SC)
Row 2-64: in back loops only, SC in each stitch, chain 1, turn
slip stitch both ends of the ribbing together and SC around the edge of the ribbing with a total stitch count of 64 STITCHES.
Now join in medium purple yarn and chain 1
NOTE: from here on out you will be working in the front center of the single crochet stitches from the previous round (this creates the knit-look aka waistcoat stitch)
Round 2-4: SC each stitch around, join, chain 1 (64 SC)
Round 5: SC in first 30 stitches with purple yarn, join in white and make the next SC in white,(carry your purple yarn as you are making the white stitches), SC in remaining stitches in purple, join, chain 1 (64 SC)
Round 6: SC in first 29 stitches, SC in next 3 with white, SC in remaining stitches with purple, join, chain 1
Round 6: SC in first 28 stitches, SC in next 5 with white, SC in remaining stitches with purple, join, chain 1
Round 7: SC in first 27 stitches, SC in next 7 with white, SC in remaining stitches with purple, join, chain 1
Round 8-9: SC in first 26 stitches, SC in next 9 with white, SC in remaining stitches with purple, join, chain 1
Round 10-11: SC in first 26 stitches, SC in next 4 with white, make one SC in purple, SC in the next 4 with white, SC in remaining stitches with purple, join, chain 1
Round 12: SC in first 27 stitches, SC in next 2 with white, SC in next 3 with purple, SC in the next 2 with white, SC in remaining stitches with purple, join, chain 1
Round 13-28: SC each stitch around, join, chain 1 (64 SC)
Fasten off leaving long tail after round 28.

  4. Can you tell us how you finish it off? Nothing is written with how to complete to the end. I’ve never been successful with gathering the ends without it being super lumpy/uneven when there are no decreases. Please & thank you!!

As you are crocheting in the round, I understand that you carry the unused color behind the one being used but how do you work it so that the white is where it needs to be when you come around for the next row? For example after working 9 white stitches, you pick up the purple and finish that row but when you come around again to pick up the white in the following row the white is 9 stiches away from where you need to begin white again. Do you cut the white and join it in again?

    • no you just ;pull it gently across then use it. As you go along just crochet over that string that’s made when you pull it across
