Crochet Mini Graduation Cap

Make any stuffie a gift for your grad by adding a mini crocheted graduation cap! I thought this little cap would look especially cute on Ollie the Owl! And you could even make Ollie in your schools colors! I am posting two different versions of the this pattern: one using Bernat Blanket Yarn (bulky) and one using basic Worsted Weight Yarn.

Mini Graduation Cap Pattern using Bernat Blanket Yarn:
Size K Crochet Hook

Cap Square:
Magic Ring, chain 3, 2 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, chain 2, join to top of chain 3, chain 3
Round 2: DC in next two, 2 DC + Chain 2 + DC in the corner, DC in next 3, 2 DC + Chain 2 + 2 DC in corner, DC in next 3, 2 DC + Chain 2 + 2 DC in corner, DC in next 3, 2 DC + Chain 2 + 2 DC in corner, join to top of chain 3, fasten off weave in ends.

Cap Base:
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 8 SC in ring, join to first SC, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (16 SC)
Round 3: In back loops only, SC in each stitch around, join chain 1 (16 SC)
Round 4: now working in both loops, 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next, repeat around, join, fasten off.

Stitch cap square onto cap base and add a yarn tassel!

Mini Graduation Cap Pattern using Worsted Weight Yarn:
Size H Crochet Hook

Cap Square:
with black
Magic Ring, chain 3, 2 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, chain 2, 3 DC, chain 2, join to top of chain 3, chain 3
Round 2: DC in next two, 2 DC + Chain 2 + DC in the corner, DC in next 3, 2 DC + Chain 2 + 2 DC in corner, DC in next 3, 2 DC + Chain 2 + 2 DC in corner, DC in next 3, 2 DC + Chain 2 + 2 DC in corner, join to top of chain 3, chain 1
Round 3: SC in each stitch around making a SC + chain 2 + SC in each corner, join, fasten off and weave in ends.

Cap Base:
with black
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join to first SC, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (15 SC)
Round 3: In back loops only, SC in each stitch around, join chain 1 (15 SC)
Round 4: now working in both loops, SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (15 SC)
Round 5: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, fasten off

Sew tassel onto to top of square.
Stitch base of cap onto bottom of square.
