I love that scrunchies are back in style and my daughter is reliving one of the biggest trends of my 1980’s childhood. These oversized accessories are colorful, fun, and a less damaging alternative for pulling up hair in a ponytail. I have a super simple Crochet Scrunchie version here for you! You will need an elastic hair tie, some Caron Simply Soft Yarn, and a size F crochet hook. I chose Caron Simply Soft because of its shiny, silky, and smooth texture and gorgeous color palette. You can shop all the shades HERE on Yarnspirations.com.
Here is a video tutorial! I would be so grateful if you subscribed to my YouTube Channel if you happen to pop over there and watch the short video 🙂
– Caron Simply Soft Yarn in colors Blackberry (purple), Strawberry, Soft Green, and Blue Mint.
– Size F Crochet Hook
– Goodie Brand Elastic Hair Ties. I am using THESE black blands for Medium Hair.
– Tapestry Needle
Make a slip knot around your hook, working around the elastic hair tie make 38 SC around. You can make more or less SC to cover the entire hair tie, stitch count does not matter. I found that 38 covered the elastic hair band well, join to first SC, chain 2
Round 2: 2 DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2
Round 3: 3 DC in each stitch around, join, fasten off and weave in ends
You will really start to see the the scrunchies ruffle and take shape after Round 3! You can easily twist and mold your scrunchies ruffles to your liking.
I forgot to take a picture of Zoe with her scrunchie in but I have this screen shot from the little video Reel I took for social media 🙂 It really is adorable and functional!
You could customize and make these in your school or sports team colors, to match outfits, and more! Let me know if make one or a dozen!
