Crochet Pencil Keychain

August 2, 2022

My kids are going back to school this week and I always like to send them with a little goodie for their teachers to celebrate the first day! Now that both my boys are in middle school, they each have 6 different teachers! And don’t forget about the bus driver, office staff, and academic support educators! So this year I came up with a quick project that I could easily make multiples of: Crochet Pencil Keychains! They are small, cute, and perfect for gifting. You can even make one to hang off your kids backpacks!

Materials:
Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in colors:
Petal Pink, Light Gray, Saffron, Cornmeal, and Black

Shop the yarn HERE on Yarnspirations.com
– Size G Crochet Hook
– Keychains (Get them HERE on Amazon)
– Polyfil Fiber Stuffing
– Tapestry Needle

Materials for Packaging the Keychains:
– 4×9 Cellophane treat bags with twist ties
– First Day of School Gift Tags

Finished Size: Approximately 4.5 inches long x 1.5 inches wide

Crochet Pencil Keychain Pattern:
starting with pink
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 12 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2-4: SC in each stitch around, join, cahin 1 (12 SC)
Pause to weave in loose end from magic ring and attach key ring while doing so.
Join in gray yarn and fasten off pink, tie the loose ends together
Round 5-6: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (12 SC)
Join in yellow yarn and fasten off gray, tie the loose ends together
now is a good time to start stuffing your pencil with poly-fil

Round 7-13: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (12 SC)
Join in beige (light yellow) yarn and fasten off yellow, tie the loose ends together
Round 14: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (12 SC)
Round 15: SC Decrease, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1 (9 SC)
Round 16: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (9 SC)
Join in black yarn and fasten off beige, tie the loose ends together.
finish stuffing with poly-fil (the black tip does not need to be stuffed.

Round 17: SC Decrease all the way around, fasten off and weave in the black strand so it fully closes the tip of the pencil. (You will have an extra stitch that you can skip)

If you don’t mind subscribing to my channel (always FREE to do so) I would be so grateful!

Slip them into a clear cellophane treat bag and add a fun “Happy First Day of School” gift tag!
Write a sweet message to your new teacher on the backside.

Such a great way to start off the year and lift everyone’s spirits!

Thank you for your support!
