Crochet Gingerbread Man Gift Card Holder

Oh Snap! This crochet gingerbread cookie has the perfect little pocket pouch on its tummy to hold a holiday gift card and even some extra little candy treats inside! Make a loop at the top and it can also be used as a keepsake ornament. Super cute and super quick to crochet. You will be baking… I mean making… a dozen in no time!

Gingerbread Man Gift Card Holder Pattern:

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value yarn in color Topaz and White and a bit of Pink or Red for the cheeks
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Two small black safety eyes
– Two small red buttons and one small green button
– Tapestry needle

Gingerbread Body:
Note: pattern works from bottom up and gift card pouch is worked right into the pattern!
starting with brown yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 8 SC in ring, join, chain 1 (8 SC)
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (16 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next stitch, repeat around, join, chain 1 (24 SC)
Round 4-10: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (24 SC)
Round 11: Chain 10, skip 10 stitches, join to 11th stitch in round with a SC, SC in remaining 13 stitches in round, join to first chain, chain 1 (the skipped stitches will be your pocket!)
Round 12: SC in each stitch around including each of the 10 chains, join, chain 1 (24 SC)
Round 13: SC Decrease, SC in next 2 stitches, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 14: SC Decrease, SC in next stitch, repeat around, join, chain 1 (12 SC)
Round 15: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (24 SC)
Round 16: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next 5 stitches, repeat around, join, chain 1 (28 SC)
Round 17-22: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (28 SC)
Round 23: SC Decrease, SC in next 2 stitches, repeat around (21 SC)

Join in white yarn for round 24 only, chain 1
Round 24: SC in each stitch around (21 SC)

Join in brown yarn, chain 1
Round 25: SC Decrease, SC in next stitch, repeat around, join, chain 1 (14 SC)

Round 25: SC Decrease until head is closed. 
Fasten off and weave in ends.
NOTE: Use this opportunity to stitch a loop on the top of head with your loose end to make it an ornament!

Face and Body Embelishments:
Add on two black safety eyes between rounds 20 and 21, about 3 stitches apart from each other.

Cheeks (make 2):
with pink or red yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 6 SC in ring, join, fasten off leaving long tail to stitch cheeks onto the face. 

Smile:
with a strand of white yarn your tapestry needle, stitch on a smile between the two cheeks.

Sew on two small red buttons and one green button in a line down the center of the tummy.

Optional: Stitch neck closed so all the stitching, loose ends, and back of safety eyes aren’t visible or accessible when finished.

Arms (make 2):
starting with brown yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 8 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: SC in each stitch around (8 SC)
join in white yarn for round 3 only, chain 1
Round 3: SC in each stitch around (8 SC)
fasten off white yarn and join in brown yarn
Round 4-7: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (8 SC)
Fasten off after round 7 and attach arms to side of body right under neck of gingerbread man.

Feet (make 2):
starting with brown yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 12 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: SC in each stitch around (12 SC)
join in white yarn for round 3 only, chain 1
Round 3: SC in each stitch around (12 SC)
fasten off white yarn and join in brown yarn
Round 4-6: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (12 SC)
Fasten off after round 6 and attach feet on either side of bottom body.
