It worked! I set out to make a crochet version of a paper woven heart and with just a few simple rounds of single crochet and double crochet stitches, I was able to make it come together! You could easily make dozens of these Crochet Woven Hearts and stuff with treats for friends, family, classmates, neighbors, and more. With a string of chain stitches for the handle, this pouch is perfect for Valentine’s Day!
Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver in Red and Baby Pink (or whatever colors you want you hearts to be!)
Shop all the colors in the Red Heart Super Saver line HERE on Yarnspirations.com
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle

Woven Heart Pieces (Make one in each color):
Chain 16, SC in second chain from hook, SC in next 13, 5 SC in last, now working on other side of chain, SC in first 14, 5 SC in last, join to first SC
Chain 20, skip 13 stitches, join with SC to 14th stitch, 2 SC in next 3, SC in next, chain 20, skip 14 stitches, join with SC to next SC, 2 SC in next 3, SC in last,
continue working in rounds
SC in each chain, DC in next 2, 2 DC in next 4, DC in next 2, SC along chain, DC in next 2, 2 DC in next 4, DC in last two stitches,
continue working in rounds
SC in single crochets from previous round, DC in next 2, 2 DC in next 8, DC in next 2, SC in all the SC from previous round, DC in next 2, 2 DC in next 8, DC in last two, join to first SC, fasten off leaving long tail (you will need the long tails later!)

Lay the pieces flat and then fold each one in half. Try to keep the loose end tails on the outer edge of your project so you can easily stitch up the sides a bit later.

I like this graphic from doodlecraftblog.com that show you how to weave the two pieces together.

Red strip goes through the first pink, around middle pink strip and rests in the middle of the last pink strip.

Second strip goes around pink, through the center of middle strip, and around last.

Last strip is the same as first.

Now we need to secure the edges so it doesn’t unravel.

Use the tapestry needle and your long loose end to stitch along the top sides of the heart and then down the sides of the heart. You only need to stitch together the same color as your loose end. So if your loose end tail is red, then just stitch together the red parts. Then the pink parts on the opposite side of the heart.

Chain 25 and attach on middle of each side of heart for a handle!

I found a bunch of fun little candy and non-candy valentines day treats at the Dollar Store!

Hi! I don’t know if you know this, but woven (paper) hearts is actually a Danish Christmas thing, although they’re usually red and white, green and white, or red and green.
A little tip: if you want the heart to look more even and more round at the top, SC and do a couple of increases instead of DC. If you want more stability, use cotton yarn instead 🙂
(If you Google “Danish Christmas heart crochet”, you’ll probably find quite a lot of examples of this :))
I love the crocheted hearts together. It looks real pretty.
Thank you for sharing a very useful crochet woven heart article. really Interesting article keep it up. Also, Visit Technical Article:- EAV & Flat Catalog in Magento 2
These are adorable. I have so many granddaughters that are going to love them. Thank you so much.
I followed your instructions and when folded in half my middle is shorter than the outsides. Which makes it hard to woven together. I wonder if it is bec I didn’t loosely chain my first 16 STS? It didn’t lay flat when I was finished.
I found the same thing…this pattern is definitely not up to standards, with the normal content here. I saw this was a Repeat Crafter Me pattern, and I trusted it. I made it through, twice, thinking it was my mistake. It’s definitely a poorly written pattern.
I had that same issue, with the 16 chain, so I extended mine to 18. It worked better & wove together better.
I Like!! Really appreciate you sharing this blog post.Really thank you! Keep writing.
