The year is flying by! We are already on our 7th square in the Animal Square Crochet-Along and this month we have a pretty pink piglet! Just look at that curly-q tail! Like our other squares, this one is super simple and you can easily make multiple versions. Remember that I am making 2 of each square so I can place them back-to-back to make our finished blanket reversible.

Each month (January through December of 2023) I will post a new Crochet Animal Square. These are simple crochet squares that are embellished with adorable animal faces! These squares work up quickly and won’t take you more than an hour or two. This project is extremely beginner friendly and you can add more or less embellishments. Customize to your liking!
At the end of the year, I will be stitching these all together to make a blanket! But they could also be turned into a pillow(s), a scarf, or any other creative way you’d like to use them.
Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in colors Baby Pink (for the background) and Perfect Pink (for the border and face). You will also need a bit of black yarn for the eye and the snout embellishments.

– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
– Safety eyes (12mm) optional
First let’s make the Square:
With baby pink yarn
Chain 21, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn
Row 2-23: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn
now continue making a SC in the 3 sides (2 Chains in each corner)
join in perfect pink yarn, fasten off baby pink, SC in each stitch all the way around 4 sides making 2 SC in each corner.
Fasten off weave in ends.
Pig Ears (make 2):
With perfect pink yarn…
Chain 5, SC in 2nd ch from hook and along the rest of the chain, chain 1, turn
Row 2: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (4 SC)
Row 3: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next 2 stitches, 2 SC in last stitch, chain 1, turn (6 SC)
Row 4-6: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn (6 SC)
Row 7: SC decrease, SC in next 2, SC decrease, chain 1, turn
Row 8: SC in each stitch across (4 SC)
Row 9: Make two SC decreases
Row 10: Make one SC decrease, chain 1 and continue to SC around entire ear. Make 2 SC in the bottom corners. Fasten off leaving long tail.
Stitch on ears to each upper corner area of the square. I folded mine over but you can place them however you’d like.
Snout:
with perfect pink yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 3: 2 SC in first stitch, SC in net, repeat around, join, fasten off leaving long tail.
with a strand of black yarn and your tapestry needle, weave yarn between stitches vertically to make nostrils on either side of magic ring round.
Stitch snout to middle of square.
Tail:
with perfect pink yarn
Chain 15, 2 SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain. It will start to coil as you crochet! Fasten off leaving long strand to stitch end of tail onto bottom corner of square.
Add safety eyes or stitch on eyes!
