This a basic crochet doll pattern that you can easily customize with all sorts of embellishments and accessories! Start with this simple pattern and get creative!
My daughter Zoe has joined the local production of Matilda Jr so this doll was inspired by the book and made to bring smiles to the kids in the cast at Phoenix Youth Theatre!
Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Beige (or whatever skin color you want), Delft blue, Chocolate Brown (or whatever hair color you want), and white.

– Size H Crochet Hook
– Polyfil Fiber Stuffing
– Two 12mm black safety eyes
– Tapestry Needle
Size: Doll is about 12 inches tall but doesn’t stand on it’s own.
Body + Head:
(worked from the bottom up)
With beige yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 4-7: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Join in blue yarn after round 7
Round 8-9: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Round 10: SC Decrease, SC in next 8, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 11: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (27 SC)
Round 12: SC Decrease, SC in next 7, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 13: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (24 SC)
Round 14: SC Decrease, SC in next 6, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 15: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (21 SC)
Round 16: SC Decrease, SC in next 5, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 17: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (18 SC)
Round 18: SC Decrease, SC in next 4, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 19: SC in each stitch around, (15 SC)
stuff body with polyfil
Join in beige yarn to begin on head
Round 20: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Round 21: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
Round 22: 2 SC in first, SC in next 4, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 23-29: SC in each around, join, chain 1 (36 SC)
Round 30: SC Decrease, SC in next 4, repeat around
Round 31: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
add safety eyes between rounds 26-27 and about 5 stitches apart.
continue stuffing with polyfil until head is closed.
Round 32: SC Decrease, SC in next 3, repeat around, join, chain 1 (24 SC)
Round 33: SC Decrease, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1 (18 SC)
Round 34: SC Decrease, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 35: SC Decrease until closed.
Skirt:
Attach blue yarn where beige and blue meet (the stitches of round 8). SC in each stitch around.
Roudn 2-6: SC in each stitch around or to whatever length you want the skirt.
Arms (make 2):
With beige yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2-5: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (10 SC)
add in blue yarn after round 5
start stuffing with polyfil and weave in any lose ends
Round 6-16: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Fasten off after round 16
Stitch arms onto either side of body about one row down from where head starts.
Legs (make 2):
With white yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2-5: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
add in beige yarn after round 5
start stuffing with polyfil and weave in any lose ends
Round 6-18: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Fasten off after round 18
Attach legs to bottom of body.
Hair/Wig:
I love this easy doll hair pattern! Just 3 rounds and you have made a wig for your doll that you can easily stitch on to the head. Make the hair length as long or short as you want.
with brown yarn
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 3: SC in each stitch around, join (20 SC)
Round 4: Chain 20 (or as long/short as you want the hair length to be), Slip stitch in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, join to next stitch on round 3, repeat this 15 times, in the remaining stitches you will make the bangs by only chaining 8, slip stitch down chain, join, leave long tail to stitch top round of wig onto top of head. Bangs should be in the front over the eyes
Shirt collars (make 2):
with blue yarn
Chain 6, SC in next, HDC in next, 2 DC in next, HDC, SC in last, fasten off
stitch onto top of dress in the front, right at the neck.
Red Bow:
with red yarn
Chain 20, HDC in 2nd chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain. Fasten off.
stitch ends together to it’s a circle. Wrap loose end of yarn around middle. St
stitch to the top of the head.
She would look adorable with a little nose and mouth as well! Maybe some shoe laces?! Feel free to keep adding on to this basic pattern!
