It’s officially Fall! I thought it would be the perfect time to add some sleeves and length to my Red Heart Retro Stripe Hexagon Cardigan. Now its comfy and cozy for the seasons ahead!
Just to refresh your memory, here is the before and after:
It’s really easy to add as much length as you need to both the sleeves and the bottom of this cardigan. But first you will need to make the basic Hexi Cardi! You can now find the pattern in a downloadable PDF courtesy of my friends at Yarnspirations! This means the pattern can be printed or saved to your computer as a simple two page document without advertisements and comments. Just an easier way for you to have this project in your pattern library! Plus they included more sizing options (Small – 2XL) and a few helpful images to make it clear and concise.
Now let’s add some length!
Let’s start with the sleeves.
Join in a new skein of Red Heart Retro Stripe Yarn anywhere along the edge of the sleeve.
DC in each stitch around, join, chain 2. (exact stitch count doesn’t matter)
Continue to DC in rounds until it is the length desired. I personally added 6 rows (but my arms are short!) Do not fasten off. Now you will start on the ribbed cuffs.
Chain 13, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain,
slip stitch in 4 of the stitches on last row sleeve, turn,
SC in back loops of the 12 SC’s from cuff, chain 1, turn
SC in back loops of the SC stitches until you get back to the sleeve,
slip stitch in 4 stitches, turn
Repeat until end! If you don’t have 4 stitches slip stitch in at the end, that is ok.
Stitch the edges of the cuff together using your loose end and tapestry needle.
Now let’s add some length to the bottom of our cardigan!
Join in Retro Stripe yarn at the bottom edge corner of your cardigan.
DC in each stitch along bottom, when you get to the corner edge on the other side, chain 2, turn
Continue to DC in rows until it is the length desired. I added 13 rows to the bottom of mine!
Do not fasten off.
Continue to DC along the inside edges and around the neck and back down.
Fasten off and weave in ends.
That’s it! Super easy and customizable for any size!
If you need to get a few more balls of Red Heart Retro Stripe yarn, it is now available in JUMBO! This means that you get twice the amount of yarn in one skein!
I would love to see this cardigan in other colors too. So many possibilities!
