The crochet squares from my Animal Square Crochet-Along are absolutely perfect for a pocket scarf! I chose the Polar Bear Square for this scarf but you could use any of the animals!

The scarf is made of single crochet rows as long or short as you’d like and then the squares become the pockets at the end of the scarf. Cute and functional! They keep your hands warm during the fall/winter months or they can hold tissues, chapstick, mittens, and more!
Start by making two polar bear squares! (or any of the Animals from my Animal Square CAL!)
NOTE: I left off the borders of the square to keep it a little skinnier. It will work either way!

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in White (2 skeins or 1 JUMBO) and Dusty Gray
Did you know that RHSS white yarn now comes in JUMBO size?! Get it HERE!
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry needle
Finish Scarf is about 52 inches long and 6 inches wide.

Basic Scarf Pattern:
with white yarn
Chain 21, SC in second chain from hook and the rest of the way down chain, chain 1, turn
Row 2-175: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn
continue rows to make it longer!
Fasten off and weave in ends.
Place the polar bear squares on each end of the scarf.

Join in gray yarn anywhere along the edge and SC along the edges of the scarf.

SC the square and scarf edge together as well.

It’s as easy as that!

Hi,
You make the cutest things!
I am wondering about the hook size. You have it as H.
I have made the polar bear hat, and it has worked out quite well with an H hook.My tension seemed to be just fine.
I started the scarf, using an H hook and Red Heart yarn. I did the 175 rows and thought I was finished with this part. However, I was 20 inches too short! It was only 32 inches long and 4 inches wide, instead of 52 inches long and 6 inches wide. I am in the process of adding another 20 inches. I usually have a medium tension, rather than tight, so I wasn’t worried when I started.
I wondered if I should have used an I or even a J hook? Any ideas?
Thank you for all your wonderful patterns.
Oh my goodness- that’s crazy! I used Red Heart Super Saver and an H hook, and had to do 22 stitches and 185 rows to get to 6 inches by 50 inches. Are you sure you’re doing single crochet and not slip stitch?
