Crochet Candy Cane Gingerbread Man Ornament

November 8, 2023

These Crochet Candy Cane Gingerbread Men are a quick and easy holiday gift or tree ornament! Fun for kids, family, friends, teachers, neighbors, as present toppers, classroom treats, and much more! I saw a similar sewing design on Pinterest and thought these would be adorable as a crochet version!

 Materials:
– Bernat Super Value in color Topaz. Stock up on this color! It’s perfect for all your gingerbread themed projects! Shop this color HERE on Yarnspirations.com
– Size H Crochet Hook (for main gingerbread man)
– Size G Crochet Hook for buttons (optional)
– Two 8mm black safety eyes
– Tapestry needle
– A bit of red yarn for smile and buttons
– A bit of green yarn for buttons
Alternate button option: Attach 2 red buttons and 1 green button instead of crocheting them)

Crochet Candy Cane Gingerbread Pattern:
Note: pattern works from the body up in one piece
Chain 20, join to first chain to create a circle. Try not to twist chain.
Round 2-10: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 11: SC in first 5 stitches, chain 2 and skip 2 stitches, SC in next 6, chain 2 and skip 2 stitches, SC in last 5, join, chain 1
Round 12: SC in each stitch around including the chain 2’s, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 13: SC Decrease, SC in next 3, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 14: SC Decrease, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 15: SC Decrease, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 16: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1
Round 17: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 18-21: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (24 SC)
Now is a good time to stop and secure your safety eyes and stitch on a smile with a strand of red yarn and your tapestry needle.
Round 22: SC Decrease, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1
Round 23: SC Decrease, SC in next, repeat around, join chain 1
Round 24: SC Decrease until closed, fasten off and use loose end to create a loop at the top for hanging onto a tree.

Buttons (make 2 in red and one in green):
with size G Hook
Magic ring, chain 1 and make 4 SC in ring, join to first SC, fasten off and secure down the front of gingerbread body.

Now with the loose end from your starting chain, stitch up the middle bottom of your gingerbread body to create two holes in the bottom for the candy cane legs to slide through.

Place candy canes through arm holes and down through holes at bottom of body!

Thanks for the pattern! I just made one today. My candy canes were a bit thick so my gingerbread man has thick legs like me I’d love it if we could leave a picture here to show you!

This is adorable; like all your patterns. I was looking for a pdf pattern that I could buy since I plan on making a few of these. I noticed that you offer a free printed or pdf pattern. That is so generous of you to share your design with us for free. Thank you!
