Ribbit Ribbit! Grab that green yarn and let’s make some easy crochet frog coasters! These could be used as appliqués, keychains, and more! Attach them to hats or blankets or backpacks. Only 6 rounds and you can customize the faces to have a variety of different expressions.

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Spring Green. Shop RHSS Yarn HERE.
If you want the tummy to be a different color, you can use Cornmeal Yellow or Soft White for the first 3 rounds and then switch to Green starting on round 4.
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Strand of black yarn to stitch on smile/and eyes
– Optional: Two 12mm Safety Eyes or Buttons. More about the eyeballs below.
NOTE: If you would rather use cotton yarn, I would suggest LILY SUGAR’N CREAM in colors Mod Green or Hot Green. Shop the yarn HERE on Yarnspirations.com
Frog Coaster Pattern:
with green yarn for solid color frog (or starting with yellow/white for tummy)
Magic Ring, chain 1 and make 10 SC in ring, join, chain 1 (10 SC)
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (20 SC)
Round 3: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat around, join, chain 1 (30 SC)
switch to green yarn for the rest of the project if you started with yellow/white
Round 4: 2 SC in first, SC in next 2, repeat around, join, chain 1 (40 SC)
Round 5: SC in each stitch around, join, chain 1 (40 SC)
Round 6: Chain 3 + 2 DC in first stitch, DC in next, HDC, SC in next 5, Slip stitch into next stitch and make a chain 3 + DC + chain 2 and slip stitch to join all in one stitch, slip stitch in next 10, chain 2 + DC + chain 3 and slip stitch to join all in one stitch, SC in next 5, HDC in next, DC in next, 2 DC + chain 3 and slip stitch to join in next, slip stitch in next 5, chain 2 + 4 DC + chain 2 all in one stitch, slip stitch in next 3, chain 2 + 4 DC + chain 2, slip stitch in remaining 5. Fasten off, weave in ends.
Eyeballs:
There are lots of options to create the eyeballs! Stitch on a “smiling eye” with your tapestry needle and black yarn or add black safety or use BUTTONS. You could even use GOOGLY EYES. I’m also considering using THESE Flatback Craft Eyes. Get creative!
Mouth:
Stitch on a smile with a strand of black yarn and your tapestry needle. Use the lines created between the rounds as your guide.
Backing:
If you want to cover the backside and make the coasters sturdier, you could stitch two frogs together (or use a plain frog body without the embellishments), or get a piece of felt or cork and glue it to the backside.
Tongue:
with red yarn
Chain 8, HDC in 3rd chain from hook and next 3, SC in last two chains, fasten off and stitch to smiling mouth.
