It’s going to be a Granny Square Christmas!
Red Heart All-in-One Granny Square Yarn in colors Verdant Vine and Ruby Red are perfect for a Christmas crochet blanket! Each ball makes 14 squares but I was pleasantly surprised that I was able to get 15 squares from each skein which makes a nice size blanket.
This yarn has pre-set color changes worked right into each ball so you don’t need to switch colors after each round, the yarn does the work for you! This make it’s very convenient to carry with me now that all my kids are in fall sports and activities and I spend a lot of time on-the-go.

Materials:
– 1 ball of All-in-One Granny Square Yarn in color Ruby Red
– 1 ball of All-in-One Granny Square Yarn in color Verdant Vine

– 1 ball of Red Heart Super Saver in color Black
– Red Heart Super Saver in Burgundy and Paddy Green (optional for the border)
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle
Finished Size: 38 x 45 inches
First make your granny squares!

I know some of you have had trouble getting this yarn to work. I also have a video on my Repeat Crafter Me YouTube Channel with some tips and tricks that I hope will help!
Next, lay the granny squares out. I decided to alternate them but I think they would look good in rows as well. Up to you! Get creative.
Now let’s join the squares.
I used the Granny Stitch Join technique because I liked how it gave a little more width to the blanket and it kept the consistency with the granny stitch.
To do this you will first join the squares along the seams vertically and then horizontally. Start in a corner of the granny square on the edge and slip stitch the black yarn in and chain 1, reach your hook down to the first space (corner) in the granny square below it and make 3 DC (granny stitch), then reach your hook back up to the next space on the square above it and make a slip stitch, repeat all the way between two squares. When you are ready to jump to the next two square to join, chain 2 and continue.
Now to join horizontally, you will do the same technique but when you get to the chain two part, make 2 DC in the space where you have the chain 2 and that counts as a 3 DC granny stitch.
Don’t overthink it! It helps to maintain 6 granny stitches between each square. And if you feel like something is off or not lining up, just make an extra granny stitch or slip stitch in the same spot twice to make it even.

Now to make the border.
with black yarn, 3 DC + chain 1 in each space along the edge. Make 3 DC + chain 2 + 3 DC in each corner.
I made 2 rounds of granny stitch along the border in black,
1 round in green
1 round in red
2 more rounds in black.
Fasten off and weave in all ends!
Feel free to make the border even larger and add in more colors. Maybe even some festive pom-poms for the corners?! Can’t wait to see how yours turns out!
