If you’ve been following me for a while, you know I love finding fun and meaningful ways to connect crochet with real-life moments. And this one is definitely a home run!
On Friday, June 20th, our family attended the Giants vs. Red Sox baseball game at Oracle Park in San Francisco. Although we’re loyal Seattle Mariners fans at heart, we couldn’t pass up the chance to see the Red Sox in action… especially with a player on the roster whose last name is literally Crochet!
Leading up to the game, I made a special corner-to-corner crochet blanket featuring a pixel-style baseball design. I personalized it by stitching on #35 (Garrett Crochet’s jersey number) using the free Crochet Jersey Numbers pattern from Yarnspirations. These number charts are incredibly easy to follow and include patterns for numbers 1 through 9, making it simple to customize for any favorite player.
My daughter Zoe made a sign, and we hoped to catch a glimpse of Garrett on the field. Unfortunately, he wasn’t pitching that night. But about an hour before the game, we hung around the dugout and were lucky enough to connect with Red Sox Manager Alex Cora. Coach Cora kindly took the blanket and promised he’d deliver it to Garrett. Fingers crossed he received it!
Whether you’re a Red Sox fan or cheering on your local team, this baseball blanket is a fun and thoughtful project for any sports lover. I’ve included the pixel graph, written instructions, and a color block pattern below so you can create one too! The outline and background of the baseball (currently shown in black) can be swapped for your team colors to make it your own.
While we may not have seen Garrett Crochet pitch that night, it felt incredibly special to honor a player whose name celebrates the very craft we love. I know the crochet community shares my excitement and hopes the blanket made its way into the right hands!
Materials:
– Red Heart Yarn in colors Royal Blue, Berry Red, Black, and White. You will need two skeins of white and blue (or whatever color you choose for the background).

– Size H Crochet Hook (although I sized down to a G hook for this one thinking it would make the project a bit smaller and easier to travel with!)
– Tapestry Needle
– Baseball Pixel Graph. Download it for free HERE.
Finished Size: Approximately 35×35. You can make it bigger with a larger hook, using DC instead of HDC stitches and by adding a border to it.
If you are new to the Corner-to-Corner (C2C) Crochet technique, let me explain a little bit about it. You can take a pixel graph and turn it into a crocheted piece. By starting in one corner of the graph (the lower right hand is most common place to start), you will crochet diagonally in rows until you get to the other corner. One pixel square = a chain 2 + 3 HDC stitches. Please note that I am using HDC stitches for the C2C instead of DC.

I did not add a border to this, but you could easily crochet around the edges in a variety of colors using SC or DC stitches.
