Bear-y Cute Crochet with Red Heart All In One Granny Square Petite Yarn!

I crocheted something bear-y adorable with Red Heart All In One Granny Square Petite Yarn! This clever yarn makes the cutest little 4″ squares, and as soon as I stitched a few together, they instantly reminded me of a tiny scarf. Perfect for… a polar bear! (Or a brown bear!)

Introducing the Granny Square Petite Yarn Bear Scarf Panels! I made a polar bear and a brown bear, but I’m tempted to try a black bear next… and if only I had used yellow, we’d have an adorable Pooh Bear!

But don’t let me stop you. There are so many character possibilities. A snowman? Penguin? Santa or Elf? Really, any Fall or Winter animal or character could rock this cozy petite yarn scarf!

About the Yarn:

Red Heart All In One Granny Square Petite Yarn (250g/8.8oz)

Perfectly petite but timelessly classic, All in One Granny Square Petite lets you create smaller, perfectly proportioned granny squares. Ideal for detail-rich projects and subtle, handcrafted style. It uses the same striping effect as the rest of the All in One family, so you only need one ball to make a 3-color granny square. No color switching, no extra ends, just keep on stitchin’!

I used the colors Snazzy (blue scarf) and Foxy (red scarf)—perfect seasonal colors for these bears! There are 12 colorways to choose from, so you can make your scarves bright and colorful or stick to a favorite shade.

Materials:

• Red Heart All In One Granny Square Petite Yarn in Snazzy and Foxy (one ball each for multiple bear panels) >>> Shop Granny Square Petite Yarn HERE <<<
• Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in White (polar bear) and Café Latte (brown bear)
• Red Heart Super Saver Yarn in Black for eyes and nose
• Size H Crochet Hook
• Tapestry Needle
• Small amount of poly-fil stuffing for the nose

Finished Size: Approximately 14″ tall x 15″ wide

Pattern Instructions:

1. Make the Scarf:

Make 6 squares from the petite yarn.

Stitch 4 squares in a row with your tapestry needle to create the scarf (I worked back and forth under the back loops).

Leave the remaining 2 squares aside—they’ll become the scarf piece that hangs over the top.

Using leftover yarn, SC along the top and bottom edges of the scarf (about 50–54 stitches).

Join the white yarn (polar bear) or brown yarn (brown bear) along the top edge and SC across.

Rows 2–40: SC in each stitch across, chain 1, turn. Adjust the number of rows if you want a taller bear head.

2. Ears (make 2):
Magic ring, ch 1, 10 SC in ring, join, ch 1 (10 SC)
Round 2: 2 SC in each stitch around, join, ch 1 (20 SC)
Round 3: SC around, join, ch 1 (20 SC)
Round 4: 2 SC in first, SC in next 3, repeat, join, ch 1 (25 SC)
Rounds 5–8: SC around, join, ch 1 (25 SC)
Round 9: SC decrease, SC in next 3, repeat, join, ch 1 (20 SC)
Round 10: SC around, join, fasten off leaving long tail to stitch onto panel

3. Snout:
Ch 7, SC in 2nd chain from hook and next 4, 3 SC in last, SC along other side of chain, 3 SC in last, join, ch 1 (16 SC)
Round 2: 2 SC in first, SC in next, repeat, join, ch 1 (24 SC)
Round 3: SC around, join, ch 1 (24 SC)
Round 4: 2 SC in first, SC in next 2, repeat, join, ch 1 (32 SC)
Round 5: 2 SC in first, SC in next 7, repeat, join, ch 1 (36 SC)
Round 6: 2 SC in first, SC in next 8, repeat, join, ch 1 (40 SC)
Rounds 7–8: SC around, join, ch 1 (40 SC)
Fasten off, leaving a long tail.
Use black yarn to stitch a nose by looping across 3 stitches about 12 times.
Stitch snout onto front of panel, stuff lightly with polyfil before closing.

4. Scarf Hang:
Sew the remaining two petite squares together.
SC around all edges, 3 SC in corners.
Add fringe: cut 12 pieces, 8″ each, fold in half, loop through stitches at bottom to knot.
Stitch scarf piece over the top edge of horizontal scarf.

5. Eyes & Expression:
Stitch on sleepy eyes, wide eyes, or smiling eyes—get creative!

I’m not sure what I’ll do with these little bears yet, but they are bear-y cute! A few ideas: stitch multiple together for a big bear blanket, make a pillow with two bears back-to-back, a wall hanging, or even the front of a sweater! The possibilities are endless.

UPDATE! I decided to stitch the panels together around a 16 inch pillow form. Now it’s a fun flipable pillow! Polar Bear on one side and Brown Bear on the other! Great revisable decor for the Fall and Winter seasons.
