Stay in and snuggle up because there’s a brand-new yarn on the block, and it’s truly living up to its name! Bernat Homebody has arrived, and this #6 super-bulky yarn is basically a hug in a ball. Soft, squishy, plush, and perfect for quick cozy projects, it’s everything you want for winter crafting. Blankets, pillows, warm accessories… and yes, it may just keep you glued to your couch (in the best way!).
I grabbed a handful of colors and instantly knew I wanted to make something bright, fun, and textured using one of my favorite beginner-friendly stitches: the moss stitch. Yarnspirations has a free Moss Stitch Blanket pattern, and I decided to tweak it slightly to create a baby-sized version with bold, cheerful stripes.

Homebody Yarn colors I used:
- White Sands
- Shenandoah Forest
- Red Rock
- Biscayne Bay
- Hawaii Volcanoes
- Yellowstone Yellows
Hook Size: J / 10 mm

(I’m just adjusting the starting chain and the color sequence!)

My Blanket Modifications
To create a baby-size version, I began with a chain of 76, then followed the moss stitch instructions exactly as written. The color changes are where the fun happens… and the happy accident? It looks unintentionally Christmas-y! Think: classic ornaments, vintage string lights, cheerful holiday stripes… but still modern and bright enough for year-round use.
Another HUGE perk:
You can get 14 full rows from one ball of Bernat Homebody.
So each big color block (red + green) is exactly one ball. Love that for planning!

Here’s the full striping sequence from bottom to top:

Hook: J / 10 mm
Starting Chain: 76

Here’s a visual of the color sequence

The moss stitch is already known for its plush, textured feel but paired with Bernat Homebody, it becomes thick, cushiony, and incredibly satisfying. It crochets up fast (super bulky yarn for the win!) and makes the perfect weekend, winter-break, or “just one more row before bed” project.
Honestly… I might finish this before New Year’s Day at the rate it’s going!
I haven’t decided on the border yet, but I’ll update the post the moment the blanket is finished. For now, I couldn’t resist sharing the colors, the progress, and the excitement of working with this brand-new yarn.
What started as a cozy winter-break make ended up with a fun, classic-holiday vibe completely unintentionally! But maybe that’s exactly the kind of project December calls for.
Stay tuned for the finished photos and border details!
And if you’re looking for a quick, comforting, colorful blanket to curl up with… this one is off to a fantastic start.

I just bought my yarn, downloaded the pattern to follow and can’t wait to start.
Thank you for another fun project.

I just made a chunky throw with this yarn, and it is seriously the softest, most squishy material I’ve ever used. The needles glide through it so quickly that the pace feels as fast and smooth as a run in Slope Unblocked , making it hard to put down until the project is finished.
I love how this yarn inspires creative projects! It reminds me of how tools like Seedance2 can help bring ideas to life with cool videos, making crafting even more fun to share.

Great effort by the author. The content is informative, practical, and easy to follow. I especially liked how the information is explained step by step. Looking forward to more articles like this.
Any chance you’ve decided on the border and finishing details? Also, I would love to know how many skeins of yarn you used for each color for the baby size blanket. The pattern at Yarnspirations is for a 50×60 afghan and the amount of yarn is calculated for that size.
Thank you!
