If you’ve been following along, this table runner is the final step in my Sweet Hearts yarn journey and honestly, it might be my favorite part yet.
First, I shared the brand-new Red Heart All-in-One Sweet Hearts yarn and how its built-in color changes magically create crochet hearts without switching colors.

Then, I showed you how to turn those sweet heart squares into crochet conversation hearts, complete with fun alphabet buttons and nostalgic candy vibes.

Today, we’re taking those heart squares one step further and turning them into a sweet Valentine’s table runner — perfect for a dining table, buffet, or mantel.
This post is more of a step-by-step construction guide than a traditional pattern, so you can easily adapt it to the number of squares you want to use.
A Quick Note About the Buttons
The alphabet buttons attach really well using a needle and thread (or embroidery floss), and they stay put nicely for décor projects like this table runner. Below is a close up photo!

If you’re making something intended for babies or young children, I recommend skipping buttons and using stitched-on yarn lettering, surface slip stitch, or felt letters instead.
Materials
- Finished Sweet Hearts heart granny squares
- Red Heart Super Saver – White (or any solid color you love)
- Sweet Hearts yarn for the border (I used Candy Hearts)

- Yarn needle
- Scissors
- Clover Tassel Maker
Finished Size of Table Runner: 50 inches long x 9 inches wide
Step 1: Single Crochet Border on Each Square
Using white yarn, work a single crochet border around each individual heart square.
- Work single crochet stitches in the back loops only
- In each corner, work 2 SC
This creates a clean edge and makes joining much easier.

Step 2: Join the Squares in a Row
Using the same white yarn, join your squares using a slip stitch join, working through the back loops.
You can absolutely make your table runner longer by adding more squares — I used four squares, but this works for any number.
I shared a quick Instagram Reel showing the slip stitch join here:

Step 3: Single Crochet Around the Joined Squares
Once all squares are connected:
- Work one full round of single crochet around the entire outside edge
- Again, make SC + Chain 2 + SC in each corner
This helps everything lie flat and frames the runner nicely.

Step 4: Hearts-in-a-Row Border
Now for the fun part — the decorative heart border!
Switch to your Sweet Hearts yarn (I used Candy Hearts).
Special Stitch: Heart Cluster
Heart Cluster Stitch:
- Yarn over, pull through stitch, pull through 2 loops
- Yarn over, pull up through the same stitch, pull through 2 loops
(You should now have 3 loops on your hook) - Skip one stitch
- In the next stitch, repeat the same two partial double crochets
(You should now have 5 loops on your hook) - Yarn over and pull through all 5 loops
- Skip a stitch between heart clusters
- Work two heart clusters in each corner
Continue around the entire runner.

Step 5: White Accent Round
Switch back to white yarn.
- SC in the first space
- Reach over to the first chain space and work:
SC + HDC + SC - Reach over to the next chain space and repeat
- Continue around
Note: The HDC should be worked in the skipped stitch between the hearts — this helps anchor the hearts and gives the border a polished look.

Step 6: Final Single Crochet Round
Work one more round of single crochet around the entire runner, again making:
SC + Chain 2 + SC in each corner.
This round really pulls everything together.

Step 7: Create the Triangle Ends
Using white yarn, join along one short end of the runner.
Triangle Shaping:
- Row 1: SC across the edge
(I had about 26 stitches — more or less is fine)
Chain 1, turn - Row 2:
SC decrease, SC across until last two stitches, SC decrease
Chain 1, turn - Row 3:
SC across
Chain 1, turn
Repeat Rows 2 and 3 until you’ve decreased down to one stitch.
Fasten off and repeat on the other end of the table runner.
Step 8: Clean-Up Round
Work one final round of single crochet around the entire table runner.
This helps the triangle ends hang nicely and gives the edges a clean, finished look.

Step 9: Tassels (Optional but Cute!)
Make two tassels using your Sweet Hearts yarn (I used Candy Hearts) and attach one to each pointed end.
Finished!
And that’s it — your Conversation Heart Crochet Table Runner is complete!
This is such a fun way to use Sweet Hearts yarn, and it’s easy to customize with different words, colors, or lengths. Whether you use it for Valentine’s Day décor or just because you love hearts (same), I hope this inspires you to give it a try.

Probably the best thing about this site is how well it works on my old tablet. I wanted a platform that doesn’t require a brand-new device to run smoothly without any lagging. I tried Crown Casino Online and it was a very pleasant experience. For those in Australia, they have a very optimized mobile version that uses very little data but still looks great. I spent my whole Sunday afternoon playing different card games. It was a very convenient and enjoyable way to spend my day off.
Thanks for the blog filled with so many information.

UK licensing is actually a big deal, and from my experience—as well as info I found on mania-casino.org.uk it gives UK players real peace of mind. A UK license means the casino follows strict regulations on fairness, player protection, and responsible gambling. I personally feel much safer knowing that Mania Casino has to comply with these rules, especially compared to unlicensed sites.

Such a cute and creative table runner idea — the conversation hearts make it extra special! It’s always a great deal to do what you truly enjoy, especially if you’re good at it.
