Pierogi Plushie Crochet Pattern

February 20, 2026

This is the real MVP… Most Valuable Pierogi!

If you’ve been watching the 2026 Winter Olympics, you’ve probably spotted Team Poland’s adorable pierogi plushie making the rounds. This charming little dumpling has quickly become a viral breakout star. And honestly, how could we not fall in love?

The sweet smile.
The puffy shape.
That perfectly pinched edge.

I loved this cozy mascot so much that I had to create a crochet version! And the best part? It’s easy, beginner-friendly, and works up quickly using super bulky yarn.

That ruffled, pinched edge along the top is made with simple double crochet stitches with no complicated shaping required!

You’ll only need one skein of: Red Heart Super Easy Yarn in color Aran

>>> Shop Red Heart Super Easy Yarn HERE <<<

This is a #6 Super Bulky yarn, which means:

  • Fast stitching
  • Great stitch definition
  • Soft, squishy texture
  • Perfect for bold, cuddly plushies

And since this project uses just one skein, it’s a quick and satisfying make!

Materials

  • Red Heart Super Easy Yarn in Aran >>> Shop Red Heart Super Easy Yarn HERE <<<
  • Size K Crochet Hook
  • Polyfil Fiber Stuffing
  • Two large black safety eyes >>> Shop large safety eyes HERE on Amazon (affiliate) <<<
  • Strand of red yarn for smile
  • Tapestry needle

Finished Size: Approximately 16 inches wide x 8 inches tall

Assembly

Fold the piece in half to form the classic half-moon pierogi shape.

Attach safety eyes and stitch on the red smile to one side before closing.

Single crochet evenly through both layers along the curved edge to join, stuffing with poly-fil as you go. Be sure to firmly stuff before completely closing.

Pinched Perogi Edge

To create the signature ruffled, pinched edge along the top:

Chain 2, turn, and make 3 DC in each stitch along the folded top edge.

This creates that adorable dumpling-style crimp that makes this plushie instantly recognizable!

A Few Notes

  • Adjust eye placement to give your pierogi its own personality.
  • You can embroider the eyes instead if gifting to very young children.

If you make your own Pierogi, I would LOVE to see it! Tag me and let me know if you’ve been enjoying the Winter Games or if this little dumpling stole your heart too.

Scrolling through this on my coffee break, the idea that Team Poland’s 2026 Winter Olympics pierogi mascot has a crochet pattern is just brilliant, isn’t it? Those beginner-friendly steps for the ‘ruffled, pinched edge’ are so clear, they practically help Unblur image confusion for new crafters, making this 16-inch plushie feel truly achievable.
