Get ready to add a little luck to your crochet projects with this Lucky Leprechaun Corner-to-Corner Crochet Panel!
This cheerful leprechaun features a bright green hat, rosy cheeks, and a big orange beard that will instantly bring a smile to your face. This cheerful leprechaun panel was designed for St. Patrick’s Day, but I’m still deciding what it will become… so I’d love to see what YOU make with it! Tote bag, blanket, pillow, or wall hanging? So many options!
The finished panel measures approximately 21 x 17 inches, making it the perfect size for a variety of fun and creative uses. And it’s reversible! The backside is a mirror image of the front.
I’m including both the pixel graph and the written C2C pattern below so you can follow whichever method you prefer.
Yarn Used
I used Red Heart Super Saver yarn in the following colors:
- Paddy Green – background (how fitting!)
- Spring Green – hat
- Black – hat band and facial features
- Gold – hat buckle
- Aran – face
- Perfect Pink – cheeks
- Pumpkin – beard
Of course feel free to swap colors and make your leprechaun uniquely yours!
Don’t delay! Shop all these colors at the BIG YARN SALE happing right now for the month of March over at Yarnspirations.com.

Add a Lucky Shamrock
No leprechaun is complete without a little extra luck! Once your panel is finished, add a tiny crochet shamrock to the hat.
This is a quick and adorable finishing touch.

You could even add two shamrocks like I did for extra charm.

Fun Beard Texture Ideas
The beard is already bright and fun, but you could take it a step further by adding texture!
Here are a few ideas:
- Use faux fur yarn for the beard to create a fuzzy leprechaun look.
- Try Bernat Cotton Terry Yarn for a scruffy textured beard.
- Surface slip stitch over the beard and add loop stitches for extra dimension.
These simple additions can really bring the leprechaun to life!
What Can You Make With This Panel?
Since this panel ended up larger than I expected, I decided it would be fun to let you decide how to use it!
Here are a few project ideas to get you started:
Lucky Leprechaun Tote Bag
This panel would make the perfect front of an oversized tote bag. Pair it with a solid green back panel or even a rainbow striped back panel for a fun “pot of gold at the end of the rainbow” theme.
Use it as a:
- Crochet project bag
- Farmers market tote
- St. Patrick’s Day parade bag
Beginning of a Blanket
Turn this panel into a St. Patrick’s Day blanket!
You could:
- Add a large rainbow border
- Pair it with other crochet panels
- Add simple green squares around it
Wall Hanging
This panel would make adorable seasonal wall decor. Add a wooden dowel and hang it up for a festive St. Patrick’s Day decoration.
Pillow Cover
Sew the panel onto fabric backing to create a fun holiday pillow.
Kid’s Blanket
Add a large border (rainbow border?!), granny squares, or additional C2C panels to turn this into the centerpiece of a festive blanket.
Throwing one more idea in there… how about use this for the front or back panel of a sweater?! You will be the life of the St. Patrick’s Day party!

The links above are the free instructions to make your c2c square. Follow the pixel graph, the written instructions, or the color blocks. I am using a size H crochet hook.

If you are new to the Corner-to-Corner (C2C) Crochet technique, let me explain a little bit about it. You can take a pixel graph and turn it into a crocheted piece. By starting in one corner of the graph (the lower right hand is most common place to start), you will crochet crochet diagonally in rows until you get to the other corner. One pixel square = a chain 2 + 3 HDC stitches. Please note that I am using HDC stitches for the C2C instead of DC.

Great points shared in this thread! I’ve been dealing with a similar issue when repurposing video content. If anyone is looking for a way to clean up messy hardcoded captions, I recently tried a tool that can remove text from video automatically using AI. It saved me a ton of manual editing time. Might be useful for some of you!

The idea of adding texture to the beard with faux fur or loop stitches is such a brilliant touch! I’ve only ever done C2C with standard stitches, so I never considered mixing in different yarn types for dimension. Have you experimented with other textured yarns in C2C panels before, and do you find they affect the overall drape much?
