You know those mini yarn labels from the Red Heart Craft Kits? I couldn’t throw them away… so I made something with them. A crocheted yarn skein… turned into a KEYCHAIN! Tell me this isn’t the cutest thing for yarn lovers?!
This idea completely took off when I shared a sneak peek on social media (thank you guys!!), and I knew I had to get the pattern up ASAP so you could make your own.

The mini skeins from the Red Heart craft kits already look like tiny balls of yarn… so I thought — why not crochet a version to match?! The labels are the PERFECT size to wrap right around your crochet piece.
Such a fun way to reuse something that would normally get tossed!

Materials
- Red Heart Super Saver Yarn – Mini Craft Kit Skeins
(Available in 12-ball and 36-ball kits)
>>> Shop them HERE on Yarnspirations.com <<< - Size H Crochet Hook
- Polyfil Fiber Stuffing
- Key Ring (Shop HERE on Amazon)
- Tapestry Needle
- Double-Sided Tape
Optional:
- Laminator (to preserve the label and prevent tearing)
Each craft kit comes with a great variety of colors, and the labels are the perfect size for these keychains! If you’d like to make your own version the Label size is 8.5 inches x 2.5 inches.
I’ve designed these printable labels that you can use as well!

(I’m also working on a crochet version of the label — coming soon!)
Each keychain uses about 20g of yarn So you can definitely get at least 2 keychains from one mini skein, with a little yarn left over!
As a Stitch Ambassador for Yarnspirations, I especially love this project because it’s such a fun way to show off my love for Red Heart yarns!

One of my favorite parts of this project is reusing the original yarn label. And even better… it matches the yarn color you used!

Here’s how to do it:
- Carefully peel the label apart at the seam
(There is manufacturer glue holding it together, so go slow to avoid tearing!) - Wrap the label around the center of your crocheted skein
- Pull it snug — almost like you’re cinching it tightly around the middle
- Secure it closed with:
- Double-sided tape (my go-to), or
- A small dab of hot glue
Optional: Laminate the label first to make it more durable!
And that’s it, your mini yarn skein is complete!

Each keychain uses about 20g of yarn So you can definitely get at least 2 keychains from one mini skein, with a little yarn left over!
Perfect for making a few to gift (or keep).
