Crochet Star Squares

July 3, 2025

Happy 4th of July! What better way to celebrate than with a brand new crochet project that’s as fun as the fireworks! Introducing Crochet Star Squares, made using the NEW Red Heart Super Easy Yarn. These oversized, chunky squares come together super quickly and are the perfect addition to your summer crochet list. Whether you’re crafting for the 4th or just want a versatile pattern, these star squares are a must-try!

I used the Super Easy Solid yarn in Farmhouse Red, Aran, and Blue Jeans for a patriotic vibe that’s perfect for home decor. The muted red, white, and blue tones offer a cozy rustic feel, giving you a beautiful, timeless look that fits any season.

Materials:
– Red Heart Super Easy Yarn. I’m using colors Farmhouse Red, Aran, and Blue Jeans
>>> Shop Super Easy Yarn HERE on Yarnspirations.com <<<
– Size J Crochet Hook
– Tapestry Needle

Finished Size of each Square: 8 x 8 inches

Stitch Key:
SC = Single Crochet
HDC = Half Double Crochet
DC = Double Crochet
TC = Triple Crochet
NOTE: Pay attention to round 7 where you skip two stitches. This is needed to make the 4 sides even.

Crochet Square Stars Pattern:
Starting with your star color
Magic ring, chain 1, make 10 SC in magic ring, join to first SC (10 SC)
Round 2: Chain 1, 2 SC in first stitch, SC in next stitch, repeat around, join to first SC (15 SC)

Round 3: Chain 5, SC in second chain from hook, HDC in next stitch, DC in next, TR in next. Now you have made one of the points of the star. Skip two stitches and join with a slip stitch. Now Chain 5 and repeat process until you have all 5 points. Slip stitch to join to bottom slip stitch of first star point, chain 1

Round 4: SC in first 3 stitches up the side of first star point, 3 SC in top of star, SC in 3 stitches down other side of star point, slip stitch in slip stitch from previous round between stars, repeat around, join to first slip stitch with background color of yarn, (50 SC)

Round 5: Chain 4 (counts as first TC), *TC in next, DC in next, HDC, SC in next 3, HDC, DC, TC, TC in slip stitch, repeat from *, join to the top of the chain 4, chain 1 (50)

Round 6: HDC in first 4, SC in next 3, HDC in next 7, SC in next 3, HDC in next 7, SC in next 3, HDC in next 7, SC in next 3, HDC in next 7, SC in next 3, HDC in last 3 stitches, join, chain 1 (50)

Round 7: skip first stitch, sc in next 3 stitches, hdc, 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in next (first corner), HDC, SC in next 9, HDC, 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in next ( second corner), HDC, SC in next 9, HDC, 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in next (third corner), skip a stitch, HDC, SC in next 9, HDC, 2 DC + chain 2 + 2 DC in next (4th corner), HDC, SC in remaining 6 stitches, join to first SC, chain 1

Round 8: SC in each stitch around making 2 SC + chain 2 + 2 SC in each corner, fasten off, weave in ends.

While these star squares are perfect for celebrating the 4th of July, they’re also incredibly versatile. You could create a starry sky blanket for an outer space lover or add a little sparkle to any room with a whimsical night sky design. And if you’re looking for something smaller, stop the pattern after round 3, and you’ll have a perfect 5-point star! These stars make adorable appliqués on hats, bags, garland or anything that needs a touch of starry razzle-dazzle.

These star squares are completely reversible! The backside looks just as good as the front, making them perfect for projects where both sides will be visible, like blankets, bags, or throws.

The quick draws, the shared guesses, the tiny celebrations—it all becomes part of daily life. Win or lose, it’s that moment of excitement that keeps folks coming back. Your star granny squares look great—the stitch definition really pops with the contrasting colors; a quick tip for consistency is to block each square to the same size and keep your joins loose on the final round to avoid puckering; if someone wants a creativity reset between rows, check this game for a short break; also loved the yarn notes—cotton blends hold the star points crisply if anyone is substituting.

    These Crochet Star Squares are absolutely gorgeous — such a fun and festive project! The step-by-step rounds make it super easy to follow, even for beginners. And the fact that the pattern is reversible is such a win for blankets and decor. Love how versatile it is too — from patriotic themes to space-inspired projects. I’ve been testing different styles using a text style generator lately, and this pattern definitely deserves a cute, creative write-up. Great share!

    Kolkata Fatafat is a lottery game in Kolkata city. People buy tickets with numbers. The game happens many times each day. Winners are picked by lucky draw. If your number matches, you win money.
    Many people in Kolkata play this game. They hope to win big money. But it is based on luck only. No one can tell which number will win.
    The game is very popular in West Bengal. Results come out fast – that is why it is called “Fatafat” which means “quick” in Hindi.
