
As a full-time crochet designer, life is incredibly cozy. Just me, my hook, and my yarn, all while sitting at my desk or in my crochet chair. A few months ago, I peeked at my iPhone Health app and realized I was averaging less than 500 steps a day. Yikes.
But here’s the thing: this isn’t a brand-new journey. I’ve been on the weight-loss path for years. Twelve years ago, Weight Watchers was my jumpstart. I lost 41 pounds in just 16 weeks, learned so many tools (like portion awareness and weekly accountability), and I’ve kept those lessons in my back pocket ever since. Fast-forward to this year: on March 30, 2025, I weighed in at 144.4 lbs which is overweight for my 5’2″ frame. And honestly my clothes were getting tight. I knew I wanted a realistic change that fit my lifestyle and still let me crochet all day. So I invested in an Airhot Walking Pad. Now I can walk while I work, answer emails, or crochet!

I aimed for 5,000 steps a day. Some days were just 2,000 but other days topped that goal. Plus, I tweaked my eating with mindful, manageable changes.
Today, August 7, 2025, the scale showed 120.8 lbs. That’s a 23 pound weight loss in less than 5 months!

While GLP‑1 medications are helping many people, I took a more traditional route. I wasn’t a candidate, and I didn’t want to pay out-of-pocket, so I embraced a low cal diet, a few thousand steps a day, and a lot of patience.

My go-to meal (and I’m not kidding, I eat a version of this for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!) is a nourish bowl made with:
- Low-fat cottage cheese (I honestly love Amazon brand)
- Steamed broccoli (steam in bag, microwaveable is easiest!)
- Roasted sweet potato (sprayed with 0-calorie cooking spray instead of olive oil – I USE THIS SPRAY)
- Ground turkey (or beef) cooked with taco seasoning
- Occasionally I add a half avocado

It’s satisfying, super easy to meal-prep, and flexible depending on what I have on hand. I round out my day with snacks like Fulfil protein bars (so good), turkey pepperoni, skinny pop popcorn, and baby carrots.
