Crochet Knit-Look Gingerbread Beanie

October 10, 2025

It’s officially Gingerbread Season! This adorable Crochet Knit-Look Gingerbread Beanie is the first of several gingerbread projects I have in the works. If you loved my Snow-Speckled Reindeer Beanie, you’re going to adore this one. It uses the same waistcoat stitch to achieve that beautiful knit-look texture, but don’t be fooled, it’s 100% crocheted!

Made with Bernat Super Value yarn in shades Berry Red, Lush Green, and the perfect cookie color, Topaz, this beanie is both festive and fun to make. Be sure to stock up on your skeins before the holiday rush at Yarnspirations.com. Topaz is the ideal gingerbread hue and tends to go fast this time of year!

Below you’ll find the written pattern that walks you through the color changes step-by-step. I’ve also included a pixel graph if you prefer to follow your stitches visually. Each square represents one waistcoat stitch.

This pattern works from the bottom up, starting with the ribbed brim and then continuing in rounds.

Materials:
– Bernat Super Value Yarn in colors Berry Red, Lush Green, Topaz, and a bit of White for the smile and Pink for the cheeks. You could opt out of the pink and just use white to complete the smile.
SHOP YARN HERE ON YARNSPIRATIONS.COM
– Size H Crochet Hook
– Faux Fur Pom-Pom (optional). I purchased mine HERE on Amazon (affiliate link).
– Tapestry Needle
– Gingerbread Pixel Graph KID SIZE
– Gingerbread Pixel Graph ADULT SIZE
SAVE INK! HERE are the Gingerbread Pixel Graphs with a WHITE Background.

Sizing Information

This pattern includes two hat sizes to fit a range of ages!

  • Small (Child Size): The smaller version is what you see pictured here. It’s best suited for younger kids(approximately ages 4–8). It’s a bit snug on my 12-year-old, so I recommend this size for little ones.
  • Large (Pre-Teen to Adult Size): The larger version follows a similar stitch count and fit as my Snow-Speckled Reindeer Beanie, so you can expect it to comfortably fit pre-teens, teens, and adults.

If you’re between sizes, you can always adjust slightly by changing your hook size or yarn tension for a more customized fit.

WAISTCOAT (KNIT-LOOK) STITCH

If you can make a single crochet, you can make the waistcoat stitch! The secret is all in where you insert your hook. Instead of crocheting into the tops of the stitches, insert your hook into the center post of the stitch — right in the middle of the “V” you see on the front. Complete the stitch just like a regular single crochet, and you’ll get that smooth, knit-like texture that makes this hat look like it came off the needles!

Crochet Snow-Speckled Reindeer Beanie Pattern:
Two Sizes: Child and Teen/Adult

Pattern Note:
The brim and background colors are completely interchangeable! This pattern is written using a green brim and red background behind the gingerbread men, but feel free to switch it up — a red brim with a green background would look just as adorable (and extra festive)!
